- Pilot85, on 03/30/2008, -0/+2no way it was CFIT with a scattered layer. Seems like engine problems, maybe a fire on board.

- adrian67, on 03/30/2008, -2/+25I wouldn't have a clue how to work out the weather from that. It looks more like a DVD crack serial number to me. Is there a website you can point me to that will decode it? Thanks for your input. Now you've got me curious :o)

Biggin Hill Airport / Issued March 30th @ 1320 Zulu time (1430 local) / Wind @ 270 (coming from due west) @ 6 knots / Wind variable from heading 220 to 310 / Visibility +10 km / Sky conditions: Scattered @ 4000 feet AGL / Temp: 11C Dewpoint: 04C / don't have a clue what the Q4000 is, probably a European thing.
Sorry about that.- ravage86, on 03/30/2008, -1/+1The Q is probably the end of bulletin. When initiating communication with the tower/ground, you'd announce that you have Q to insure you have the latest weather information. The 1000... beats me, perhaps it was 10am local time?
But after further reading, it means something else. No editing time left here though :( - Disodium, on 03/31/2008, -0/+2doh just replied to the parent thread above, i believe the Q is QNH which is the European version of the altimeter setting

- saxreturns, on 03/30/2008, -0/+13Does this mean that as a British citizen, I shouldn't care about that little incident about 6 1/2 years ago when some towers fell down? You disgust me sir, people are people no matter what country they are from and loss of life is always a tragedy.
- timlump, on 03/30/2008, -3/+2It doesnt matter if you did not care about 911 anyway as America certainly made sure that we did.

- luke16, on 03/30/2008, -3/+6This is the exact plane that crashed into the house, the twin-engine Cessna Citation 501 http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=0182535
It's funny how there was no plane wreckage...- graemee, on 03/30/2008, -1/+7cue conspiracy people in 1.2.3
- Chordinator, on 03/30/2008, -0/+11You're right, there WAS no wreckage... before the plane crashed. But you can clearly see plane wreckage in multiple pictures in this article... duuumb... dumb dumb duumb!
- Pillage, on 03/30/2008, -0/+3I'm getting a raging clue!
- DifferentAngle, on 03/30/2008, -1/+0it has two engines... one isnt enough to keep the plane aloft?
- luke16, on 03/30/2008, -1/+1ok, there was wreckage, but thats the plane...
- blackgrape, on 03/30/2008, -0/+4A plane is a thin tube containing mostly air and gasoline. A missile.
Nose dive it into the ground and there's very little left.- JointVenture, on 03/30/2008, -0/+5Shhhhhhhh dont tell the 9/11 guys that.
- Seann7656, on 03/30/2008, -12/+3Oh damn. I live In Kent, WA and had a mini panic attack for a second...
Headlines need to be slightly more clear- ravage86, on 03/30/2008, -3/+1In Lynnwood, I thought the same thing.
- jamestwisleton, on 03/30/2008, -0/+8Just assume it's the original Kent ;)
- saxreturns, on 03/30/2008, -1/+7The .co.uk in the domain name will probably help you out in future.
- itsthebrod, on 03/30/2008, -1/+1Not necessarily. Other countries' news sites do report on news in other countries too.
- Cobainy, on 03/30/2008, -0/+3Yes, but if you live in Kent, US, you should probably know of the UK version
- itsthebrod, on 03/30/2008, -1/+1Not necessarily. Other countries' news sites do report on news in other countries too.
- JointVenture, on 03/30/2008, -0/+1You can tell by the thumbnail that its not the USA. Hint...skynews.
- Picer, on 03/30/2008, -0/+3I'm suprised the aircraft was that small, it seems to have obliterated one house(luckily), but only one house? it must nose dived straight into it,
BTW that plane model has apparently had 39 incidents over the years since its release in the 1970s- captric, on 03/30/2008, -0/+1I certainly dont know what 39 "incidents" would have to do with this particular accident at all.
- matt3454, on 03/30/2008, -15/+2This was obviously a terrorist act.
Thankfully the residents of the house were away. The pilot should have ditched it in near-by woods. - Plomma, on 03/30/2008, -14/+0NEVER FORGET
- j0etb, on 03/30/2008, -0/+2Wow that sucks - I've just come back from visiting my parents in Kent and I went through Orpington today. Some things are just too close to home.
Sucks that nobody made it- Zoids, on 03/30/2008, -1/+1I was camping in the woods nearby, it was a bit scary when that thing went down to say the least.
- willywong, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1Waiting to see if you can snatch any stray children?
- Zoids, on 03/30/2008, -1/+1I was camping in the woods nearby, it was a bit scary when that thing went down to say the least.

- haveacigar, on 03/30/2008, -0/+1Its so surreal... i lived in biggin hill my whole life and was born in farnborough hospital.. Its so sad..
- Ataxia2008, on 03/30/2008, -0/+11Why are there so many idiots commenting today?

- pstroll, on 03/30/2008, -11/+0I hope Jeremy Clarkson is alright!
- bumblefoot, on 03/30/2008, -0/+2huh?
- gplpark92, on 03/30/2008, -0/+2i thought it was Richard Hammond, who had that accident..?
- ukblacknight, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1Clarkson lives in Oxfordshire. Besides, 5 people we're killed, and you care that a TV presenter might be injured?
- bumblefoot, on 03/30/2008, -0/+4tragic news, at least the pilot did his best to minimise casualties by trying to make it to the field props to the guy for having the presence of mind to do that
- Klarth, on 03/30/2008, -0/+3That's about half an hour away from where I live. Stuff like this is pretty uncommon and will probably dominate the local news for a short while. My sympathies to the people involved. Must be goddamned nasty to come back from holiday and find your house wrecked by a jet aeroplane.
Even more so the people in the crash... Ye gods. Absolute horror.- Ataxia2008, on 03/30/2008, -0/+3Especially if they're stuck in Terminal 5 at the moment...
- fandyboy, on 03/30/2008, -5/+1I went to school in Orpington, probably the most exciting thing ever to happen there....
- Naughtyme, on 03/30/2008, -0/+5Exciting......EXCITING? Don't be an inconsiderate *****..
- fandyboy, on 03/30/2008, -1/+1OK then, the most dramatic thing...
- Naughtyme, on 03/30/2008, -0/+5Exciting......EXCITING? Don't be an inconsiderate *****..
- dvgeoster9, on 03/30/2008, -0/+3Sadly no one survived the crash 5 confirmed dead
- mamboboy, on 03/30/2008, -5/+0I think it's probably good that no one in the plane survived - I don't think they'd look all too pretty afterwards...
- jordanlgta, on 03/30/2008, -10/+1Kentucky? Kent State? ???
- ajmuir, on 03/30/2008, -0/+8Why all this fuss about having Kent in the title? We (the British) don't make the same fuss when stories crop up on Digg about US states/places sharing the same name as some of our localities, after all, that's where they get the names from. Just read the story and use some intelligence, the internet is available outside America.
- mamboboy, on 03/30/2008, -11/+1OMG ANOTHER PLANE JUST HIT
- dvgeoster9, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1not funny
- TopBanana, on 03/30/2008, -0/+2One of those on board rumoured to have been David Leslie, the ex British Touring Car driver.
- wiretapped, on 03/30/2008, -0/+2Sky News has confirmed:
"Two of the victims of a private jet crash that destroyed a home in Kent have been named by Sky sources as David Leslie and Richard Lloyd.
Both men were well-known in the world of motor racing.
They were killed when the small plane they were travelling in sent a mayday call before nose-diving into two homes."

I switched over to Sky News to catch some coverage of this as it is very close to where I live. With my Satellite package, we get coverage of Fox News, so I thought what-the-hell, lets check to what's happening stateside. To my surprise, Fox News has an alert out with rolling updates of the crash. Kinda strange, seeing as there is very little footage available, this sort of thing happens fairly regularly, I am sure in the US and we never get a BBC NEWS FLASH. Anyway, not only had they decided to report it but the FOX MAP placed Kent somewhere around the Scottish border. Seriously, Scotland? That isn't even the right country. It is several hundreds of miles away. This is a terrible tragedy, only compounded by the fact that it was one of British touring car's legends that was involved- Fox's reporting of it is simply disgusting. If you can't get the basic facts right, don't report it at all.- ajmuir, on 03/30/2008, -0/+3Sky (well BSkyB) is a Rupert Murdoch company, as is the Fox network in the States. They simulcast fairly regularly.
- paulsmith288, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1surely sky news would know where kent and Scotland are!
- vichussmith, on 03/30/2008, -0/+2Jeez. Horrific.
- Jlaw09, on 03/31/2008, -0/+2Poor people. My respect is with the families and friends. Rest In Peace.
- cosmosprince, on 03/31/2008, -0/+2aren't planes with two engines usually able to keep in the air with only one still running?
- DeskFlyer, on 03/31/2008, -0/+2Yes. So are ones with one engine, believe it or not.
- RC155, on 03/31/2008, -2/+1I heard somewhere that the report went something like this -
4f 68 20 53 68 69 74 21 20 57 65 20 61 72 65 20 61 6c 6c 20 67 6f 69 6e 67 20 74 6f 20 44 69 65 21 - Toothy1911, on 04/01/2008, -0/+1This is an absolute tragedy, one of the people killed was 25 year old Christopher Allarton. I knew Chris well as he was a fellow Motorsport Engineering student at Coventry University. Everyone who knew him is shocked and saddened. My heart goes out to to his family, girlfriend and everyone else affected by this awful accident.
