      You need UN recognition to be legal. NATO did not have the mandate to invade a foreign country outside the soil of its own membership. They were basically a "coalition of the willing" as far as international law is concerned. NATO is an organization of military aggression and expansionism. That's why it should be ended.

        Sorry no. When you win a war, the other side gives up, and you can effectively do whatever you want within your own borders, that is when you are your own country. You don't require the UN's stamping approval for that.

        I know some people are in favor of having some type of world government, but a lot aren't, including myself.

        As regard to the others quasi nations such as Taiwan that you mentioned. I say that, "basically who wants it," should get it. Now of course, they will have to fight hard for that. But to say that being independent is "illegal" is just stupid. illegal with respect to who?

        Example, I consider Taiwan to be its own country. Now it might not be officially accepted that its own country on the internationl level. But they are there own country. They have their own military, laws, tax system, etc. What do they care whether the UN considers them their own country or not? Its irrellevant.

        Bottom line, Kosovo independence is not illegal if they fight for it and effectively obtain independence, regardless of what the rest of the world says.

    But it is actually possible that the Balkan is going to destabilize after Kosovas independence (or what they call it, it's actually not going to be anything like it, just words...). But the reason wouldn't be any kind of Albanian extremism, but Serbian economic embargoes and its further political isolation. The whole Albanian "problem" started in Paris in 1919 when the new big European Nations (France, Germany, GB, and even Italy) put the borders where THEY wanted it, without regard of the native groups. So the Albanians where divided into 3 separate countries (now 5, 6 if you count Kosova as a country), and every of these foreign governments where oppressing the native people and colonizing the region with their own people, that's cold ethnic cleansing. And yes, they will probably someday demand their right for a completed and not torn apart state, but not if the further manipulation of these foreign governments stops.

    I'm going to waste some time not because of the Neo-Con views of Bolton and those alike but for those that might not get where this is coming from.

    If Bolton knew his ass from his elbow about anything realistic and not only about " World Domination " he would know that Muslim Albanians & Arabic Muslims are almost like night and day in the sense of how they follow their roots.

    Albanians are Albanian before they are Muslim, they abide by a different code of ethics that is embedded into their culture that is derived from the Code of Lek Dukagjini not the Kuran.

    They respect their religion of course but rare ( to none ) are there those that are fanatical to the point of being labeled as " Extremists "

    He is speaking on only having control, nothing more, there is no history nor' will there be of " Albanian Extremists " going around for no reason to do what these neo-cons look at as " Spreading Islamic Extremism "

    As far as if Kosova should be independent or not is really not upto Bolton, he has really no positional point of speaking ( other than Russian TV asking him to come on and side with them )

    For those that want a more in depth view on this conflict and disagreement, here it is in a nutshell:

    This conflict has existed for a good amount of Centuries ( yes centuries ) and began when the slavs ( the Serbians ) migrated from Russia and settled into the Balkans. There were many battles back and forth throughout territories. Territories came to exist after the Ottomon Empire, Tito led Yugoslavia ( which joined all states as 1 but each maintained it's own governments for their territories * Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Etc * and Kosova was attached to Serbia by Tito but maintained its own Albanian Government ) yes complexed is the word lol.

    I tried to put it in a nutshell but that pretty much sums it up.

    The main strong arm that Serbia goes against Kosove's independence ( and Russia backing them ) has absolutely nothing to do with the country itself but with the fact they don't want to fall to the U.N. Or U.S. ( for obvious reasons )

    Its the power of the 'free press': repeat ad nauseam what the State Dept says, dont contradict it and then play the offended virgins when it gets too messy. If you dig up the balkan wars of the 90s and do some research you will notice that the first 4-5 peace plans (Lisbon Agreement, Vance--Owen,etc) were rejected by the muslims because of US pressure while the two other sides in the conflict had signed it). It puts everything in a different perspective.

    But this is great news for separatists everywhere: violence and terror DOES pay if you have the US on your side.
    And if drug dealing is in your business plan, then you are really set. 60 to 90% of heroin in europe comes through kosovo albanian mafia hands and the big drug lords in Afghanistan are in power which explains why the production there is now even better than before.

    That's why at the Democratic convetion in 2004, an albanian terrorist that was wanted by Interpol a few years ago came to pay his respects. Imagine if Ayman al-Zawahiri showed up in 2012. You dont think someone would say "Hey look, this guy was a wanted criminal, a murderer and a thug. What is he doing here?"

    There is a great scene from a french documentary which shows a guy at Rudder-Finn showing a french producer his Rolodex and telling him openly that any message he wants to get across for his clients he can do it with less than two phone calls because people dont have time to search, think the news are objective and frankly dont really care. His job is to make people care.

    I have to bring this up because in the mid 90s, le Nouvel Observateur (equivalent of Time) ran an aticle where french president Edouard Balladur and some top generals admitted that they knew that the muslims had caused the destruction themselves a mere 48hrs before a major UN vote but that it served the french purpose so it didnt matter. You know what happened after that?
    Nothing. If the truth is out there and no one cares, why even bother?

    Canadian jarhead Scott Taylor and editor of Esprit de Corps magazine www.espritdecorps.ca is an expert on the Balkans (and was held for a week in Iraq) and if you ever get a chance to listen to him speak, you will realize how the media works. He isnt one of those froufrou embedded ***** and when he used to send back stories to the canadian station he worked for they kept getting on his case about how they were going to have to reprogram him when he came back and how his newscasts that were gathered on the field where never the same as all his other colleagues who were seated in hotels far away and that he should harmonize his stories with theirs.
    he also tells a great story about Christiane Amanpour who made her career on BS, getting pissed off at her cameramen who were busy filming young men playgin basketball in some camps and how she needed more pathetic looking subjects.
    Pure news.
    Taylor also informed us of a story which got no traction here about a german writer who was in court with a british TV network over their famous 'skinny guy behind barbed wires' shot. Turns out the fence wasnt around the camp and that there was video evidence of the film crew going into the closed enclosure (I think it was surrounding some hydro installation) and filming out. News?
    You listen to him talk for a few hours and you realize that our news are manipulated to serve the needs of our government. What do you think embedded reporting is all about? Better coverage?

    • loveksss123, on 02/17/2008, -0/+0there are sooo many countries with independence and all have criminals wondering about their streets now that kosovo wants to be independant you have to point out their criminals and the wrongs as if every other country is perfect kosovo just wants to be away and definitly not apart of the country (serbia) that caused soo much tragedy and problems for them. And now there are people who dnt want them to have independence its like forcing you to stay with someone you dont want to be but more serious kosovo is stuck to serbia until people like you accept the fact that they shouldnt even be close or even in the same continent because they just dont want to get along. And just as we are happy in our own area there is always someone who just doesnt see the good side but chooses to be on the wrong sides with stupid reasons to back up their points. and in my opinion every country that says is a counrty should have independence because right now i dont understand how america and a few other countries seem to be making decisions about other countries that they dont own.

The only reason to split Kosovo from Serbia seems to be that the majority of the people there are Albanians. If Kosovo is to be split from Serbia, would it not follow that we should move Albanians in the rest of Serbia to Kosovo, and to move non-Albanians out of Kosovo? Was this not the KLA's aim in the 1990s? Would this not be ethnic cleansing?

    If countries should be created along ethnic lines, should not Quebec split from Canada and form an independent country? Miami-Dade in Florida has a hispanic majority, and it's population size is the same as Kosovo. Should it not split from the US to form an independent country?

But even though I disagree with many of their views, people like Bolton and Buchanan have become the closest thing to reason and moderation in the Republican Party.

    For instance, in Bolton's Daily Show interview, I disagreed with many of his stances but at least he explained them and used reason to back them up, something sadly lacking in the Bush administration. I think this interview with a Russian television station is essentially the same way; I don't think anything Bolton said was absurdly polarizing or unreasonable.

Not to mention the lastes gas deal they pulled giving Russia even more control over the gas that is fed to Europe. They are holding 1000 year old grudges, they commited ethnic cleansing, they put the word in the dictionary and they are proud of it. They are the extrimists and just because they are not muslim doesn't mean they can't be. Go to wikipedia, read the history of the 90's in the balkans and then come and argue the point that they are not a country that tried to force their belives on everyone in that area with force.
