People probably remember all the emotional articles from the summer of 2007 - which claimed Mychal Bell was "a regular kid" with "no criminal record" who maintained his innocence - and aren't aware of any of the more recent developments. It turns out those early articles were a pack of lies.
During a bail-reduction hearing in late 2007, it was revealed that Bell wasn't the angel his supporters made him out to be. In fact, he had four previous convictions of violent offenses in the year leading up to the "Jena 6" attack - two involving battery and two for intentional destruction of property. Between December 2005, when he punched a 17-year old black girl in the face, and the December 2006 "Jena 6" attack, Bell was essentially on a year-long crime spree.
While he had long maintained his innocence, Bell eventually pled guilty to taking part in the "Jena 6" assault, saying in court, "I hit him, you know, whatever." He's since been arrested for shoplifting, and he's now shot himself. How many second-chances should this thug get? - Hetman, on 12/30/2008, -3/+66This is a horrible situation. I don't care if you are white or black, what those six boys did to that student was brutal. He could have died had not black and white students stopped these boys from kicking the other in the head, after he was struck behind and fallen unconscious. Of course, all the usual suspects took up the cause for Mychal Bell and the five other attackers and nothing came of this.
Mychal spent some time in jail because his grandmother wouldn't put up the bail.
Before the above, Mychal was in court four other times and now we come to attempted robbery and possessing a gun, while a minor. The thought is, what was he going to do with the gun, before he stupidly shot himself in the chest while cleaning it. This person will never change because he always got away with whatever he did and thinks he always will. The truth is Bell wasn't good enough to make a college team, let alone the NFL, so the fact he was a decent high school football player should have been irrelevant in the Jena 6 reporting. But throughout the summer of 2007 the country was inundated with fluff pieces like this:

Racist thugs like the "Jena 6" prey on weaker white kids who are for the most part afraid of the aggressive black thugs in training. It always amazed me how so many people bought into the whole "they are victims of whitey BS".
The sad part about people like the Jena 6 is that they will probably be criminals for the rest of their lives. They tried to KILL him but he got away. These black racist thugs were originaly charged with attemppted murder because the EVIDENCE for attemted murder convicition was provable in a court of law. It was black racist activists that through protests and politics were successful in bullying the prosecutor in to reducing the charges.
