It's 2008, women are pretty much half of the workforce in Japan. The fact that the birth rate is in decline in Japan is evidence of this (because women are entering the work force in larger numbers, thus putting off having children until later on in age when it's more difficult). Sounds like a similar situation to other western nations. Since you have no facts to back up your idiotic statement, I would advise not commenting on issues you have only made biased assumptions about.
That's not to say more progress can't be made. But far be it from us in America to judge. Women in this country are still not paid the same money for the same type of work that men do. There's still lots of work we need to do in this country before we start judging others. So why not focus your efforts on the country you live in instead of trying to solve another country's problems thousands of miles away. Basically Japan is about 40 years behind the US as far as women's rights are concerned, and Japanese men are feeling the "pain" as they now have to deal with community property, women's reproductive rights, worksplace harassment issues, women's suffrage rights (voting), and other big changes.
If you watch the AMC series Mad Men (based in 1961), that kinda gives you an idea about how things are changing in the Japanese home and workplace now.
A small side story to put things in perspective: A couple hundred years ago, Japanese Samurai were so dismissive to women, that they thought that sex with them would actually lower the men's IQ. Well, then, their marriage has had some problems, hasn't it? Marriage is a partnership. If you can't work these things out with your spouse, perhaps you (that's the general you, not any one digger in particular) shouldn't have gotten married. Right now, I earn three times as much as my husband does. It would never occur to me to think that means I have three times the control that he does over our finances or that he contributes less to our marriage than I do. We make decisions about career paths (or lack thereof) together, and then we don't blame each other for following through on those decisions. If something's not working for one of us, then we talk about it.
The one thing we want to avoid is the stupidity of your "what if she sat on her ass for 30 years" comment. Does it really take anyone 30 years to figure out that they're unhappy with that situation?
