- dienaked, on 02/03/2009, -1/+38An official in Nagano prefecture, northwest of Tokyo, said the high percentage of gold found at the Suwa facility was probably due to the large number of precision equipment manufacturers in the vicinity that use the yellow metal.
It's not the poop, it's more likely getting washed down the drain as minute particles of gold dust.
These companies will probably all install separate cleaning/sewage systems now so they can recover their own gold.
If they capture it outside the sewage they can do carbon filtration and get the gold relatively easily. - PiscisAustrini, on 02/03/2009, -2/+35*****??
- IphtashuFitz, on 02/03/2009, -5/+38There's gold in them thar turds!

- Stevin, on 02/03/2009, -9/+36How much gold could a Japanese *****, if a Japanese could ***** gold?
Answer = The French. - Hoover889, on 02/03/2009, -1/+28Silver would cause that to happen, it has antibacterial properties.
gold still stinks though. - MindStalker, on 02/03/2009, -0/+24Probably not, it might not be profitable for a single business to filter their sewage, they may only recover a tiny bit of gold, much less than the cost and maintenance of the filtration. But in a aggregate at the processing facility it adds up quickly.

- du1834, on 02/03/2009, -1/+21Take a reading comprehension course at the local community college. In the article they say it's due to the number of precision equipment companies inthe area that use gold and dispose of their waste in the sewage network. The one bright side to it is that the sewage system will be able to counter some of the costs...hopefully saving their residents some cash.

- wollsmosh, on 02/03/2009, -3/+16Unlike money, gold is more then just a symbol of wealth to be be traded for goods or services. Gold also has real, practical applications, so while the price will go down, as it will for all products when they become more abundant, it will not become worthless. You wouldn't say food becomes worthless if it becomes more abundant, would you?
