After World War II. Their was little inspiration within Japan for animation work, so they looked overseas. The best example? Disney. They took the exaggerated features of cartoons. Eyes, mouth, etc. that made a cartoon and they stemmed from there.
Ever since, Japan has evolved its animation with works like Disney at its core for its inspiration.
But every now and then you'll see an animation that is very Japanese looking.
One great example of this is Jin-Roh. The Wolf Brigade. A fascinating story about an alternate history of Japan after world war II. The story is based off of the german Little Red Riding hood book. The characters are unmistakably Japanese in it. The story itself may seem drawn out for many, but if you have the patience, its a great watch. - camilos007, on 02/11/2009, -1/+10you've been had.
