- DifferentAngle, on 02/01/2009, -0/+15For comparison, non-military US Gov aid for 2006 was $22.7 billion. The US has 2.44x the population of japan.
- VCAT, on 02/01/2009, -1/+1219 Billion seems like chump change in this wacky world of Trillion dollar bailouts and 50 Billion dollar frauds.
- ZenMojo, on 02/01/2009, -4/+13Japan, exporting censored porn and foreign aid. Two things we can't get enough of.
- jamesgott, on 02/01/2009, -1/+10infrastructure? wtf is the point of that? they should be spending it on 1500 dollar trashcans and 50 million dollar private jets. Have we taught them nothing?
- Ardiente, on 01/31/2009, -1/+10It's becoming a powerful piggy bank indeed. Latin America already owes it its first child.
- zyklon, on 02/01/2009, -0/+8You're a terrible troll.
First rule of trolling is not to be too obvious. - DifferentAngle, on 02/01/2009, -1/+7Fine... 3.15x the GDP in 2007
I can only work w/ what I got - Diggers dont need super accurate information ;) - IHaveCrayons, on 02/01/2009, -4/+92006 was a few years ago... and population has no relative value (Maybe GDP is more pertinent)... China has 4x population of US so what
- inactive, on 02/01/2009, -1/+5AID in international finance is a loan with interest.
- themastersb, on 02/01/2009, -0/+4Oh Nippon... What would we do without you?
- scaaven2, on 02/01/2009, -11/+14Hi, I'm an armchair economist who browses digg, and i'd like to present my opinion that no bailout will ever work and I'd rather have no economy, but rather complete anarchy. thanks.
--Digg armchair economist. - zyklon, on 02/01/2009, -3/+5Woah, Japan is very philanthropic. I'm sure it's not all rainbows and sunshine, but what they're doing appears to be very awesome.
- pwdrskier, on 02/01/2009, -1/+3japan is awesome

- spoon088, on 02/01/2009, -2/+3Japan is trying to make friends for its markets since its exports are primarily to other 1st world nations who interdepend too much on each other.
- LordBacon, on 02/09/2009, -0/+1North Korea is way better ;)
- ohpiddle, on 02/02/2009, -0/+1Dirty old man
- dengzhi, on 02/02/2009, -0/+1did you know the japanese actually have to pay for those bases?
- inactive, on 02/02/2009, -0/+1With oversight, 19 billion goes a lot further than here in the US where oversight means, "overlooking".
- Endit, on 02/02/2009, -0/+1*ninja* ...wish I had seen the comment... *ninja*
- forceuser, on 02/01/2009, -1/+2Rozen Aso got elected? Hmm thought he lost, good for him.
- BotchaMcCoola, on 02/01/2009, -2/+2I bet the USA pays more than that as extortion to North Korea every couple of years. Does that count as aid to Asian countries? Or is it just a continuing penalty for the Korean War mistake? Btw, Does anyone know how much the USA wastes on the massive Okinawa Military bases these years? That has become a massive cash cow for the MIC.
- stonebear, on 02/01/2009, -1/+1And China is right there to devour Japan's "children" as fast as she can pop them out. Sad really; the empire of the sun is setting, and there's not really anything that can be done about it. Like the US and its bailouts, Japan is just trying to slow it down a little by doing the only thing it knows to do; cultivate markets.
- degenerasian, on 02/04/2009, -0/+0Wow. Haven't Japan learned from the 90s when the also bailed out everything and nearly went bankrupt. Expect the same cycle again in 10 years.
- Pinkertinkle, on 02/01/2009, -6/+5Japan's always eager to help out former members of its Great East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere
- heystoopid, on 02/01/2009, -5/+2There is a very evil yeahbut attached with all aid packages the Japanese offer from signing over fishing rights to a vote for their whaling or some other evil catch 22 .
Choices ?
- wingk1314, on 02/01/2009, -5/+2Yeh but they should test it on you first just to see if it works on morons.
Stupid racist **** - sheeplover, on 02/01/2009, -10/+5I figure that this is just another way to sell Wii's and PS3's
