- UtahPirate, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1It's not. But then, neither is any other domestic espionage against our citizens.
And that Cary (president of the RIAA) calls the idea that what MediaSentry does as invading privacy "bizarre".
There are LOTS of wrong things. The only way the rest of us can change any of it is to speak up, vote, and exercise our rights as citizens (rather than as whiners who never do much about it). We're going to lose this fight unless we REALLY get active enough to show that what they do is wrong. They still don't see it yet, and so we might just have to try to get a few of our own laws passed. But in order to do that, we have to have someone trustworthy in office. You see, it all comes back down to voting. That's the way of true democracy, whether you're a Democrat, Republican, Libertarian or... or... Whig (I'm trying not to plug my political party).
I think the only right part about all of this is the strength that Jammie Thomas and the others have shown us. Bullying people is wrong. Thomas, Lindor, Andersen, Schwartz and Santangelo have all shown us that the strongest people in this country are single women. They alone have shaped this fight. Jammie didn't want the limelight, but that's what makes her great: she can tell it like it is, set us all straight, and eliminate the circus that is journalistic license.
Jammie Thomas will continue to be one of my inspirations, and one of the many reasons I do what I do. I don't think anyone would want to go through what she's gone through, but I doubt that I myself (nor my family, for that matter) could have gone through what Ms. Thomas has gone through and come through it as well. The RIAA did pick the target, in spite of their denials to the contrary. But they didn't know the fight they were picking. They expected a Chihuahua they could hold down with a boot, and what they got was a German Shepherd. She's fought them with eloquent silence and I'm glad to finally have the "real" story. I was starting to be wise to the misinformation, but I didn't really have much to go on to say what that real story was.
Jammie, thank you for being such a strong woman. Thank you for listening to your dad when he said you have to fight for what you believe in. Thanks for not cowering in front of the bullies, and not simply accepting the idea that attorney's fees might be more expensive. Thank you for becoming a public figure, in spite of your misgivings about it. Most of all, thank you for NOT fueling the RIAA with the money they want.
And, for the record... http://www.freejammie.com/ if you want to help Jammie Thomas fight the RIAA (plug for those who didn't know how to help).

- TakeAStand, on 11/06/2007, -0/+0Well Said.
- HipHopHustler, on 11/06/2007, -0/+0GlobalGrind.com did an extensive article on this and I'm glad more people are posting stories about Jammie, because she was definitely set up and its clear that the RIAA targets vulnerable people.
