guardian.co.uk — The Israeli prime minister, Ehud Olmert, tonight announced that he will step down, throwing the country into political uncertainty.

- urik88, on 07/30/2008, -1/+15At last! Hopefully, someone competent will take his place.
- mercaz, on 07/30/2008, -1/+11Baruch Hashem!!
Finally...waaaay over-due however. He should have had the dignity to resign two years ago when it became painfully obvious how incompetent he is.
As to his immediate successor, Mofaz is far more qualified and would make a better PM...I think that Livni is the better politician though so she is more likely to win the primary. Long-term, new elections will surely mean Bibi becomes PM again (unless somehow Livni proves that she has the stones for the job in the few months that she would be in office).
Also, FTA: "...throwing the country into political turmoil." You must be new at this, lol. - drz130, on 07/30/2008, -0/+10TG. May he end up in jail along with his corrupt leftist cronies.
- jamessavik, on 07/30/2008, -2/+9I wonder who will end up in the big chair.
I've always liked Benjamin Netenyahu but I haven't heard from him lately. He seems like a smart guy and knows what is going on.
Things seemed to be very quiet while he was PM and then a lefty took over and BOOM! Intifata.- yellowcakewalk, on 08/04/2008, -0/+1If by the "Big Chair" you mean "Old Sparky", Benjamin Milikowski aka Netanyahu would be an excellent choice.
- dkapuchino, on 07/30/2008, -2/+11I can't help but envying the Israeli democracy. Very few prime ministers finish their terms. Once they lose the trust of the people, their days are numbered. Being that the reality in the middle east is so volatile, it's important to constantly make sure the acting government represents the will of the people, which very often adapt to new situations.
- acormon, on 07/30/2008, -0/+8This has been a long time coming. Hopefully the new PM can avoid a pretty ***** messy situation ahead.
- Sternsgang, on 07/30/2008, -7/+3Good riddens he was a disaster. How the hell to you let the glorious IDF lose to a bunch of backward Islamofacists like Hezbollah. He should have deployed troops into Lebanon and smashed Hezbollah to pieces and laid waste to Lebanon. Then he should have deployed troops into Gaza and took that back after the Islamofacist Palestinians elected Hamas.
- Waiting2awake, on 07/31/2008, -5/+3You tried - you failed. Deal.
BTW - kids with rocks aren't enemies - those that would be driven by a nonsensical words like "islamofacists", are - more so when they have nukes.- dshPls, on 07/31/2008, -1/+4You're totally right Waiting, men with rockets are the enemy, not children with rocks.
- Waiting2awake, on 07/31/2008, -2/+2DshPls - Agreed they are enemies to humanity and peace - AS ARE the men with bombs, and armies, and tanks, and, and, and....
BOTH sides are to be blamed - despite what the usual suspect would like others to think.
BTW - If I am so "right", as you say - why didn't you digg me up? Interesting no?
- Waiting2awake, on 07/31/2008, -5/+3You tried - you failed. Deal.
- nowsourcing, on 07/30/2008, -1/+6This should hopefully open doors for a better party alignment. Things just plain weren't working before.
- MarkusX, on 07/31/2008, -1/+4Uncertainty always opens up potential for change and new ways.
Only the old same ways are certain. - Kizilbash, on 07/31/2008, -2/+4The new PM will be Benyamin ***** who was indicted for corruption and resigned when he was PM. He is also even further to the right than Olmert.
- yellowcakewalk, on 08/04/2008, -0/+1Now would be a good time to hand Olmert over to The Hague for his crimes against Lebanese civilians.
