- MonkeyOverlord, on 11/05/2009, -25/+189If the Iranians gave a damn about the Palestinians, they'd be sending food and emergency aid, not weapons. They're just fanning the flames by enabling the Palestinian militants to continuously draw the civilian population into conflicts with Israel.
- DSchwartz88, on 11/05/2009, -72/+194finally some hardcore evidence. im so sick of the anti-israel angle. im waiting in anticipation to see how the anti-israel crowd tries to play this off. i mean come on, this was clearly headed from iran to hezbolla, i dont think theres anyway around it. let the buries begin!
- joeTaco, on 11/05/2009, -25/+96What does that even mean? It proves that Iran is (probably) sending weapons to Hezbollah, not that their government is "a sham."
- DSchwartz88, on 11/05/2009, -48/+112israel is allowed to defend itself. if that means stopping a ship WITH NATO SUPPORT then thats what they must do. the situation they are in is unprecedented in which every country around them wants them gone. how would you feel if mexico and canada had nukes and rockets pointed at the US? would you just sit back and say its their right? what if they publicly stated they wanted the US wiped off the map? free speech? think about things before you comment, dont comment on the situation if you dont know what your talking about.
- awhiteflame, on 11/05/2009, -16/+70"'This ship does not carry Iranian weapons to Syria and does not contain military material to manufacture weapons in Syria. This ship carries imported goods from Syria to Iran,' al-Moallem added. His comments in Arabic were carried by Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV station and other Lebanese stations.
It was unclear why al-Moallem said the ship was headed in the opposite direction of that stated by Israel. Syrian officials were not immediately available for comment in Damascus. Iran, Lebanon and Hezbollah had no comment."
As Judge Marilyn Milian would say, one of you is a bold-faced liar. - spworm, on 11/05/2009, -11/+58Supplying hezbollah with weapons IS in Iran's interest. Just like the US support 'terrorist' groups when that's in their interest.
Don't be so naive. - attractivetb, on 11/05/2009, -20/+57I only Dugg this because it said "Trending (BETA)" and I wanted to play with Digg's new toy.
- biogears, on 11/05/2009, -56/+88I'm waiting for the typical "Israel is the bad guy" angle on this.
- DarthVolta, on 11/05/2009, -1/+32I saw a big scary countdown, along with the words 'Hezbollah' and 'Israel' and I was alarmed for a moment...
- joejitsu, on 11/05/2009, -24/+54Proof that Iran is not interested in peace. If Iran hates Israel so much they should fight them instead of funding terrorist to hide among civilians. Iran is contributing to the plight of the Palestinians and Lebanese, and is just as responsible for civilian deaths as Israel, Hamas, and Hezbollah are.
- EndAntiSemitism, on 11/05/2009, -14/+43Hardcore evidence? No way... I'm sure the manifest on the ship was mistranslated and that these guns, ammo and rockets were really some kind of toy for the Lebanese children /s
- Velocity14, on 11/05/2009, -2/+27I don't know how I feel about seeing a countdown on the front page. It makes me feel like I gotta do something quick before it explodes.
- fadeout, on 11/05/2009, -5/+28Your take on international affairs is... childish.
Do you think there would have been people marching in the streets of Tehran chanting pro American slogans even just a year ago?
His attempts to court Iran has clearly worked on the Iranian people. Too bad they're not the ones in charge of their government. - jfreeman, on 11/05/2009, -23/+44How would you feel if Palestinians came to this country, overthrew the government, and seized our property because they believed it was "ordained by God"? Would you resist?
- enronhubbard, on 11/05/2009, -28/+47Israel is the bad guy.
- srs2000, on 11/05/2009, -1/+18... You do remember what happened last time... right?
- coldkodiak, on 11/05/2009, -8/+25A lot of people in here don't realize Hezbollah is not Palestinian, nor has anything to do with Palestine.
Thanks very much, I suggest reading up if you don't understand the distinction. - biogears, on 11/05/2009, -3/+20Well, this got bizarre in a hurry :)
- cruik, on 11/05/2009, -13/+28Anybody else hesitant to trust anything anyone in this story has to say?
- danielttt, on 11/05/2009, -23/+37Keep spreading the lies
- jfreeman, on 11/05/2009, -4/+18Talking - or demanding? They are two different concepts. Maybe if we came at the issue from an angle of mutual respect for national sovereignty, for the right to use nuclear technology for energy, then we would come out with a more agreeable result. When placing ultimatums with the threat of military force considering our history of harmful intervention in their domestic affairs, I can understand why they would be reluctant to bow to our command. We would do the same to them.
- EndAntiSemitism, on 11/05/2009, -33/+46Excellent. You know Israel is doing some good when even the hardline anti-israeli apologists on digg are having trouble condemning their actions.
God bless 'em for trying though, even if it is with unrelated strawmen/anecdotes.
Kudos to Israel for preventing terrorists from acquiring tonnes of munitions. - BohicaTwentyTwo, on 11/05/2009, -8/+21What was it that Bush called Iran part of? Axis Of Something-Or-Another
- jfreeman, on 11/05/2009, -10/+23They decided not to put their national sovereignty at your feet. Go figure.
- awhiteflame, on 11/05/2009, -10/+22Is there not a UN weapons embargo against Iran?
- boogerthecat, on 11/05/2009, -5/+17The Ayatollahs know that they have to stir up some ***** with the Israelis to keep their people from focusing on their own corrupt and insane leadership.
Some of the worst drug runners in the world work for the Revolutionary Guard. They also have the monopoly on alcohol inside Iran where it is illegal under penalty of hanging. - howardstern1, on 11/05/2009, -3/+15knowing bush, thats exactly what he probably said
- dk75eclipse, on 11/05/2009, -2/+14I'm Iranian, and actually many wouldn't mind the assistance because they realize that protesting in the streets, and dying in the process, isn't getting them anywhere, and they can't resort to war because the Islamic government will easily win.
"Even the opposition candidate campaigned on standing up for Iran's right to develop nuclear energy."
The thing is, it isn't about the opposition candidates anymore. They are part of the theocracy, and what the Iranians are fighting for now is an entirely new government.
I also wish to say that the Iranians aren't the American hating people that the media makes us seem half the time. Iranian culture has become alot more western in the last few years. The only people who do hate America are the people involved in the government and the religious extremist minority. - SisyphusFragmnt, on 11/05/2009, -3/+15Charlotte, your partisanship has made you become blind. You are so caught up in it that you've become willfully ignorant and dangerously stubborn. I really hope you're not in a position to poison the minds of our children.
Talking to our enemies is a great idea. Diplomacy should always win out over war. Always. The Cuban missile crisis was eventually settled because of diplomacy, not military action. North Korea is finally starting to lighten up thanks to diplomatic actions, not military engagements. I'm sorry but people like you are terribly lost. So lost that we as a world civilization can't truly move forward until you die of old age. I don't wish for your death, but when it happens I won't miss your brand of politics. I only hope your kind doesn't do more damage than we can repair. - awhiteflame, on 11/05/2009, -10/+21I don't know why you're being dugg down. If we're going to pretend that we care about what's right, we should be trying to figure out what the facts are, and right now we just have contradictory accounts. We cannot be making conclusions yet.
- Dalhectar, on 11/05/2009, -0/+11Hezbollah ≠ Palestine
The arab-run authority that is partially responsible for Palestinian security, the PLA receives weapons and training from the US. Israel also conducts security operations in the West Bank and Gaza, which receives some weapons from the US.
Hezbollah, particularly in Lebanon, is a Shi'a armed group that wields disproportionate power in a country that divides power among its religious/ethnic divisions. - EndAntiSemitism, on 11/05/2009, -6/+17Well it's a good thing no one's ever been hurt with WWII technology or this shipment of weapons might have been a bad thing /s
- SisyphusFragmnt, on 11/05/2009, -3/+13Honestly this ***** is ridiculous now. Israel is now a state and we should just accept that. Gaza should also be allowed to become a state if the population there wants that. That's how it should work worldwide.
- boogerthecat, on 11/05/2009, -18/+28If you've ever been there and know a few Israelis, you would find them pretty easy to believe.
On the other hand, the Arabs have a track record of being pretty shifty.
The reason the United States has a Navy and Marine Corp is because we had to fight to defend our sea lanes from pirates staging out of North Africa almost as soon as the ink was dry on out Declaration of Independence. - jfreeman, on 11/05/2009, -2/+12Regardless of the protests, the "pressure" you want to apply will not make anyone in Iran like us. Despite the fact that many of them dislike their government, they dislike our intervention in their affairs even more. Even the opposition candidate campaigned on standing up for Iran's right to develop nuclear energy.
- Kvasaari, on 11/05/2009, -3/+13"one of you is a bold-faced liar."
This is the only part of this story that is certain. Both sides are known to lie from time to time, but in this case Israel's version sounds more credible. - stagit, on 11/05/2009, -15/+25It's easy to criticize Israel's actions from the comfort of your home, when you don't have these exact missiles pointed at you. Before advocating "palestinian" rights, try visiting Israel, "Palestine" and Gaza. While you'd be welcomed in Israel, most of you wouldn't survive a day in the latter two.
- cubicrystal, on 11/05/2009, -0/+10Talking about Jews or Israel brings out the crazy in a lot of people.
- peteyb1313, on 11/05/2009, -5/+15it's like you are talking about your own comment
- cantabecon, on 11/05/2009, -7/+16uhh we put quite a lot of cities up in flames since 9-11. you're going to have to think a little harder if you want to add usefully to this debate. not believing every word that israel says does not equate to being a terrorist supporter. the line is, unfortunately, more complicated than that, so stop being so tribal, it doesn't help anyone. the only way US can be a great country is by having a better ideology - dominating with brute force won't last. what are you going to appeal to when other countries become more powerful? like jon stewart said on torture - our refusal to do it is what makes us the great country that we are, and thats what makes them the terrorists, not us. if we do it, we are only showing that we are superior in might, and nothing else. its natural to want to be in teams, and want to fight against other teams, but you have to fight that instinct if we are going to get anywhere.
- fedja, on 11/05/2009, -4/+13Too bad the claim is that the ship was heading to Hezbollah, not Palestine. But hey, who reads articles before commenting anyway.
- foopirata, on 11/05/2009, -6/+15No, actually it is because Iran is under a UN-imposed weapons export ban.
But hey, let's not let facts get into the way of a good emotional rant. - poogy21, on 11/05/2009, -8/+17If anything, you can claim not to believe the media. But if Israel claims to have this proof, they must have hard evidence to support it. Don't forget that shipping containers must have records that adhere to international standards and provide accountability and traceability. They could potentially trace the cargo back to the organization's bank account.
Most likely, the reason Israel is so public on the matter is because it intends to follow-up and trace the origins of the delivery (if they haven't done so in advance.) - jfreeman, on 11/05/2009, -5/+14They view Israel as an invader, and rightfully so. They are arming insurgents just like the French did for American colonists.
There are going to be many people in the world you don't like. We can't afford to kill them all, nor would it be moral. We have to get along with them. You don't have to trust them, but you don't have to bully and provoke them either. - urik88, on 11/05/2009, -6/+15Awesome point Monkey.
- DeadliestSnatch, on 11/05/2009, -14/+23If that's what you are looking for, then watch this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EISikrLcSw8&fea ... - urik88, on 11/05/2009, -22/+31Palestinians didn't have a government.
Most Palestinian property wasn't seized.
It wasn't because it was "ordained by God", it was because the British told us that we can live there. - cshard, on 11/05/2009, -1/+10Fun fact: Most Israeli citizens dont really give a ***** about "zionism" anymore.
My personal experience: They tried to educate me about "being a zionist" at elementary school in Tel Aviv, but it didnt take. Not on me and not on the rest of my class, or my generation for that matter. I never really understood or cared much about "zionism" - it seemed more like ancient history. I was far more interested in reading Asimov and watching Robotech.
Today as i'm 20-something I can look around and confirm it: My generation doesnt really care about "zionism" or "occupying land". We're too busy making a living to give a *****. The only ones who care seem to be the old men in the government, and the funny thing about old men: They dont stay around for long.
If the palestinian's 20-something group tries to open dialog with Israel's 20-somethings, i'm quite positive something surprising will happen.
But hey, dont let me change your mind about Israel. We're all evil child killers with a thing for abuse. - quaxon, on 11/05/2009, -11/+20I think what is bigger news is that we are still giving Israel around $10million each year for weapons. Im sure we are also shipping weapons to countless other fighter groups that we'll label terrorists in ten years, but we'll have to wait a few years for the files to get declassified.
- EndAntiSemitism, on 11/05/2009, -7/+16what the hell is that supposed to mean?
