- rahamm, on 05/27/2008, -61/+270I am glade Carter does not go quietly into the night like other past presidents and will push against his own party if he has too, to do what he thinks is right. We need more like him from both sides of the isle.
- pintomp3, on 05/27/2008, -32/+207israel refuses to sign the NPT and refuses inspections, yet still receives billions of tax payer dollars from the US.
- ghassan, on 05/27/2008, -84/+208This surely shows the peaceful intentions towards its neighbors.
- ralphthemagi, on 05/27/2008, -17/+128This has been known forever. Not really news.
- inactive, on 05/27/2008, -75/+178So a country that's willing to go to all out war an kill thousands of people over 2 soldiers has 150 nuclear bombs. Yeah I feed REAL safe.
- elliotys, on 05/27/2008, -21/+119Well apparently 150 less than we did.
- humanerror, on 05/27/2008, -43/+140Oh but don't worry, they don't count as long as Israel doesn't officially announce that they have them and thereby "introduce nuclear weapons into the region". That should make everyone feel better.
- inactive, on 05/27/2008, -22/+100Nukes do NOT work like conventional explosives. It's a NUCLEAR, not chemical reaction.
What is absolutely irresponsible is people posting information that is inaccurate, such as your assertion that separate nuclear weapons can chain react so easily, and possibly confusing others. - facelesscoward, on 05/27/2008, -48/+122i think jimmy carter is a pretty cool guy. eh speaks truth and doesn't afraid of anything.
- dig1x, on 05/27/2008, -30/+97Cue the people to say that Carter is an anti-jewish bigot in 3....2.....1....
(shortly after, it will be "anti-zionism is bigotry!1!") - Nidy1, on 05/27/2008, -39/+104That's nice. How many does the US have?
- ObamaWins08, on 05/27/2008, -29/+93Whatever.
How do you prove that Middle Eastern Countries don't have Nuclear Weapons? Easy. They haven't bombed Israel yet. - cdzrom, on 05/27/2008, -38/+100when two bordering governments have an amendment in their constitution sworn to your destruction, frankly, i don't blame you.
- elliotys, on 05/27/2008, -23/+77I think it's safe to say at this point Israel can take care of themselves. How bout we cut back on the military hand-me-downs.
- inactive, on 05/27/2008, -11/+53True, they don't work like chemical explosives. But if these bombs are really older than 1980, the chances are big that they don't work with the spherical implosion method but rather with a chemical starter explosive. the chemical starter explosive can very well be triggered by an outer force (mostly high heat or a high voltage sparks).
Of course, I don't know how and where the Israeli government has established their nuclear bases but considering Israels very small size it's almost impossible to hide them at some place with low density of population or even far away from people. - rahamm, on 05/27/2008, -17/+59Jimmy Carter has done a lot for peace in this current process and overall in his life epically in this area of the world.
Second Jimmy Carter has not chosen any side. He is trying to get the Israelis to talk with the Palestinians. You see sense Hamas was democratically elected no one will talk to them so he is talking to them becuase no one else is and people are over there starving to death because we are ignoring them. This after we encouraged Hamas to run in the election. How do you suggest they make peace over there by not talking? Killing all the Palestinians? I mean seriously could you be more ignorant.
Not only that but when he was there he got Hamas to admit to Israels right to exist and to quote him after the meeting "there's no doubt that both the Arab world and the Palestinians, including Hamas, will accept Israel's right to live in peace within the 1967 borders." If that is not a step toward peace from HAMAS I don't know what is. The only one who has done nothing for peace is BUSH, and MCCAIN!
Now you prove that Carter is happy when Jewish civilians are killed. Oh you can't becuase unlike you Carter cares for people. ALL PEOPLE! Regardless of race, creed, religion, OR HISTORY. You live in the 70's when all Arabs countries hates Israel. I prefer 2008 when we have a shot at peace. - roosevans, on 05/27/2008, -64/+106Israel has nuclear weapons and Israel believes in "pre-emptive attacks", therefore Israel is a very de-stabilizing force in the Middle East. Middle East "detente" can only be achieved if there is a Muslim country or countries with nuclear retaliatory capability in the case of an Israeli "pre-emptive" nuclear strike. Is there any wonder that Iran wants nuclear weapons? Unfortunately the best assurance that nation "A" won't attack nation "B' is for nation "B" to have the capability to inflict the same damage to nation "A".
- inactive, on 05/27/2008, -59/+100Well at least it seems like they don't have their trigger on the button, despite tons of provocation. I can imagine that if Hamas had even one they would have turned Tel-aviv into a glass parking-lot along time ago...
- Fremen93, on 05/27/2008, -28/+69I'm sure Carter will just be labeled an anti-semite and ignored by most people in America.
Even though, what he is saying is in regards to the government of Israel, and not the Jewish people. - CrazyArcher, on 05/27/2008, -8/+47Military hand outs.
- halogenik, on 05/27/2008, -2/+3412,000 man. read the article.
- 0Xonox0, on 05/27/2008, -33/+64Wait, so the most volatile country in the middle east has over a hundred nuclear weapons, and yet we're ready to go to war with one of the most stable to prevent them from even getting one?

Israeli army embarrassed by video broadcast - CBC News
The Israeli army has expressed a note of contrition after a television station aired a videotape showing an army assault on a Palestinian home in which a mother of five children died. When CBC News spoke with Ismail Hawarjeh at Bethlehem's hospital earlier this month, there was no way to verify the story he told about how his wife had died, until Israel's Channel 2 broke the embargo and broacast the tape last weekend. - manicmarvin, on 05/27/2008, -26/+52I just don't get this "Holy Land" ***** (and neither does Jesus). Maybe Saint John McCain and his psychotic preacher from hell can explain it to us...
- trotskyist, on 05/27/2008, -9/+34Actually, former presidents continue to receive national security briefings for life.
- coldkodiak, on 05/27/2008, -4/+27I feed safe.
- humanerror, on 05/27/2008, -30/+53Fox News viewer spotted
- rwald, on 05/27/2008, -33/+54You guys notice how they've presumably had these nukes for years and have done nothing with them? How long do you think it would take Iran to launch their first nuke at Tel Aviv? 3 days? 30?
- rahamm, on 05/27/2008, -18/+39It is not OK for any country to have nuclear weapons.
As for Carter being the worse president
I will give you 10 who are worse:
1. James Buchanan (1857-1861)
2. Warren G. Harding (1921-1923)
3. Andrew Johnson (1865-1869)
4. Franklin Pierce (1853-1857)
5. Millard Fillmore (1850-1853)
6. John Tyler (1841-1845)
7. Ulysses S. Grant (1869-1877)
8. William Harrison (1841)
9. Herbert Hoover (1929-1933)
10. Richard Nixon (1969-1974)
not to mention Zachary Taylor, or Calvin Coolidge, or Bush
Read a book and stop listening to Rush if we listened to Jimmy we would be energy independent and our president would not have to beg the Saudis for Oil.
- inactive, on 05/27/2008, -9/+29That's right, because in some cases they are getting better stuff than we give our own military
- hinchb, on 05/27/2008, -10/+29hey guys I didn't read the article but I'm going to pose a question that would easily be answered if I would've read even just the first quarter of this article I'm making a comment on thanks yall
- romistrub, on 05/27/2008, -1/+20See?! I told you guys he's not always a troll!
- yngtimmy, on 05/27/2008, -13/+32Having weapons like this and not flaunting them, not threatening other countries with nuclear destruction - compared to missile parades (Iran)....crowds cheering for your destruction (Iran, Palestine)...peaceful indeed.
- rahamm, on 05/27/2008, -19/+37What Jimmy Carter is not complaining about Egypt starting a war with Israel. How dare he not complain about a war fought 40 years ago. For that matter I don't see Carter complaining about the Germans for invading Poland he must be a Nazi too!
You statement was the stupidest ramblings from the right wing I have read all day on digg. You win - buckrogers1965, on 05/27/2008, -7/+24The people in power right now in Israel got there over the dead body of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin who could have brokered a peace with the Palestinians.
He was assassinated at a peace rally. He was shot in the arm and back by Yigal Amir, a Jewish man in his mid-20s who was heavily affiliated with right-wing extremist groups.
Rabin was assassinated by the same right wing extremists who have been in power since his death in Israel.
Seems a little murderous and insane to me. Willing to kill their own, like the worst kind of traitor. - MacBookForMe, on 05/27/2008, -17/+34no chain reaction possible
but big *****, anyway - ExitMoose, on 05/27/2008, -10/+27From the article: "Former Israeli military intelligence chief Aharon Zeevi-Farkash told Reuters news agency he considered Mr Carter's comments "irresponsible".
"The problem is that there are those who can use these statements when it comes to discussing the international effort to prevent Iran getting nuclear weapons," he said. "
Why shouldn't they be able to? It seems like a fair bit of hypocrisy to turn a blind eye to Israel's already-existing weapons while threatening war over Iran's alleged development of them.
That is, unless your standard is that only friends of the U.S. are entitled to possess nuclear weapons. - inactive, on 05/27/2008, -16/+33...and not one of them is Kosher.
- imightbewrong, on 05/27/2008, -2/+18cause the US knows Israel has an active Nuclear weapons program
- uptown, on 05/27/2008, -4/+20Exactly.
- yonoz, on 05/27/2008, -11/+27Hizbullah didn't just kidnap Israeli soldiers in a cross border attack - it also launched rockets and mortars at Israeli civilians before, during and after the attack.
- pintomp3, on 05/27/2008, -8/+24duh. god is a real estate agent. and the bible is a real estate contract.
- shaim2, on 05/27/2008, -20/+36If we (Israel) did not have nuclear weapons we would all be dead right now.
Arabs have always objected to the formation of the state of Israel, and have tried to destroy it. Not all of them, perhaps, but a significant fraction.
If the Jewish nation has a right to a nation-state (Jewish is both a religion and a nationality, btw), and one can argue we have considering the Holocaust, then Israel has the right to exist, and we must take whatever means necessary to ensure our survival.
We can argue about borders. We can certainly argue about the areas occupied in 67, and how Israel severely messed up in its relationship with the Palestinians (an understatement).
But note that while we have had these weapons for over 40 years, and have gone through some tough wars during that time, we have never used them. They are our last line of defense.
I hope we never use them. - humanerror, on 05/27/2008, -13/+29psst onetimer... your avatar is showing
- th3heretic, on 05/27/2008, -0/+14Current stockpile 4,075 active, 5,535 total (est.)
Also, Peak stockpile 32,193 warheads (1966), just in case we need to rid of the world? - Haoie, on 05/27/2008, -10/+24As one who favours peace, I'd like to see full nuclear disarmament across the world.
But that, sadly, is unlikely to happen anytime soon. - urik88, on 05/27/2008, -5/+19You seem to forget about all thse Katyushas falling over Israel.
- inactive, on 05/27/2008, -6/+20True, but you gotta admit, it sure made a lot of weapons manufacturers and military contractors VERY wealthy indeed.
Maybe that's the whole point of thi-... no... wait... never mind. -
