Is the Secret Service Investigating Liz Trotta and Fox News?
huffingtonpost.com — FOX News political pundit Liz Trotta jokingly suggested this weekend that someone should assassinate an American presidential candidate.

Unacceptable, Fox should be ashamed, I challenge all Americans to write all sponsors of Fox news and to every connection/channels Fox has. We can show them we are all Americans who care and love our country. Fox is an example of corruption, corporate greed, low morals and values, peace.

- whatthefu, on 05/27/2008, -29/+23Why target just Fox News when CNN and MSNBC pull the same *****? They all suck.
- biotch, on 05/27/2008, -6/+27same *****? ... no
- Drahkar, on 05/27/2008, -4/+26I don't remember CNN or MSNBC having a conversation on how a presidential candidate should be assassinated. Perhaps you could point that out to me.
- eviscero, on 05/27/2008, -23/+3You're incredibly biased. Put the kool aid down before the hatred consumes you and your friend objectivity.
Whereas all the major media is transparently left biased; I embrace a dissenting voice in network media.
Isn't that what liberals believe in? - or was it Free Speech when it only agrees with your political opinion?
lol, you are a joke. - archiesteel, on 05/27/2008, -0/+8The major media is *not* "transparently left biased". It only seems that way to you because you're all the way to the right. Mainstream Media is made up of corporations (with the exception of PBS and NPR), and corporations are *at best* centrist.
Fox is a joke. - theelectricafro, on 05/27/2008, -2/+1I dont either. But I do recall one of the two you mentioned saying that a certain Presidential Candidate called Martin Luther King a "gay pedophile", without and proof or source. So in a way between all the misinformation, ommissions and lies WHATTHEFU is right.
- molochi, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1@archiestreet (because the "thread" link didn't open a post box)
Don't forget, PBS and NPR recieved the mandate of "fair and balanced" reporting. Compared to the rest of the world even they are right wing. - Drahkar, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1@eviscero -
Biased? Where the hell did that come from? They were saying that CNN and MSNBC were pulling the same things and I asked him to point out where they were suggesting a presidential candidate should be assassinated. Cause I'm pretty sure I haven't heard that eon anywhere but Fox News except to respond in outrage that it was mentioned.
But hey, if that makes me biased and a liberal in your mind (Which I'm not by the way.) Then you just go ahead and be happy in that really ***** weird colored world you live in. Cause I'm not going to waste my breath trying to convince you otherwise. Because the response you gave is so far completely off topic in relation to my comment that I wouldn't even know where to start.
@theelectricafro-
I'm not sure if you are referring to me. I really hope not because I can state for a fact I have never, ever stated anything of that sort. Ever.
- eviscero, on 05/27/2008, -23/+3You're incredibly biased. Put the kool aid down before the hatred consumes you and your friend objectivity.
- BobOki, on 05/27/2008, -2/+6Be fair.... he meant overall.
Can you honestly say that CNN or MSNBC are any less worse at reporting twisted spun "news"?
- Trav3133, on 05/27/2008, -28/+6u forgot obama. thats right i said it. wanna fight about it?
- yodaj007, on 05/27/2008, -2/+20Why must we fight? Can't we just hug?
- mistyblue1940, on 05/27/2008, -6/+12I agree, how do we contact Fox News about our protests to guests like this vile woman and allowing her to make a comment on the air about she wishes we could assassinate both Osama and Obama and laugh at her own comment.
And the host lets her get away with that comment!
DISGUSTING!!!
Fox 's slogan is Fair and Balanced, is such a joke, they don't know the meaning of either word "Fair" & "Balanced"
They are so one sided in their hosts and guests, other than Allen Colmes
I also agree with whatthefu, msnbc and cnn are the same, I think all these stations hire are Republicans.
So if anybody knows where to write and who to write to that will get the email about this, everybody should protest these horrible comments and fill their email boxes with complaints, not that they'd care anyway.

Nobody has ever heard of this lady before - now this is going to make her famous.
Is that what you want?- jdowland, on 05/27/2008, -3/+10I think that FOX News should be exposed for the farce that it is. They do these kinds of extremely manipulative things on a regular basis.
In this case it went way too far. There should be a limit to what the Public should accept from the Media. - Khanvalescent, on 05/27/2008, -1/+6There is a difference between famous and infamous.
- EvilCan, on 05/27/2008, -3/+3I agree 100% that this has been blown out of proportion. This is some stupid off hand comment in an attempt to be funny after making a stupid mistake on the air. I sincerely doubt that she really wants Obama to be killed and I guarantee that she regretted saying it the moment it left her mouth.
What she said was terrible. If Fox was smart, they would've fired her on the spot and at the very least suspended her for a couple of months.
The hypocrisy of some diggers just makes me laugh some times. I've read comments on this site that say that much worse things should be done to Bush, should I be contacting the SS about those?

You ***** hypocrites, where were you when this was posted? - SRSco, on 05/27/2008, -9/+3You got a few errant apostrophes there JoeOmar. You're also getting way too emotional. I know you knew if you were the first to bitch and moan about Fox News on a Pro-Obama article you'd get a lot of Diggs (duh), but you could've at least taken the time to at least TRY to be coherent and grammatically correct.
I wish Digg had better filters on how to get rid of "Fox News Bitching". Look. I don't like Fox News (or any TV news for that matter) so what do I do? I don't watch it. The end. Fox is able to broadcast what they want. They don't need a bunch of self righteous Diggers to organize petitions to attempt to censor them. It won't work, it never has, and it doesn't need to work. Just go wring your hands over something that matters and quit looking for every tiny disgusting thing that happens on TV. You'll live a lot longer.- akatsuki, on 05/27/2008, -2/+3I don't watch Fox news, but there is nothing wrong or anti-free market about pressuring them either... If I write their advertisers and say that I don't like the message they are sponsoring and that I will tell my friends too, how is that a problem? They exercised their free speech in a free market, and now Diggers are exercising theirs.
- HorseloverFat8, on 05/27/2008, -1/+1There's no apostrophes in any of those!

Are these guys locked up in Cuba now?- petrodollar, on 05/27/2008, -2/+14Do they "jokingly" say that Bush should be killed? No. Their film merely explores the possibilities of how the investigation of a Bush assassination would be handled. Nowhere will you find the filmmakers saying that we should "knock off" Bush "if we could." This is in sharp contrast to Liz Trotta, who openly stated on national television that she would like to see Barack Obama assassinated.
Sorry, SaladCactusKing, your analogy fails miserably. Hopefully next time you'll do a better job of apologizing for Fox News commentators' treasonous acts.- rrbest, on 05/27/2008, -9/+5Are you kidding, if the movie had Obama instead of Bush we'd all be flipping *****. The difference is none of us like Bush so we brush it off.
- knumbknuts, on 05/27/2008, -12/+3Actually, it's a hell of a rejoinder. SaladCactusKing wins the thread. That film was horrible & I don't even like bush.
- petrodollar, on 05/27/2008, -2/+7I've never seen it, so I can't comment. I just looked up the "external reviews" on IMDB and they all say that the film doesn't advocate killing Bush.
This is in sharp contrast to the fox news ***** who said she would like to see Obama assassinated "if we could."
Were you on mushrooms when you saw Death of a President? I don't know how else to account for your differing interpretation.
- p0s3r, on 05/27/2008, -2/+2Great link. What's even better is this ***** author mentions how movies like Taxi Driver and The Catcher in the Rye have been claimed as motivations. Somehow he missed the connection to that movie. Odd. You'd think he would've atleast mentioned it.

And a Guardian columnist straight out called for it!
"On November 2, the entire civilised world will be praying, praying Bush loses. And Sod’s law dictates he’ll probably win, thereby disproving the existence of God once and for all. The world will endure four more years of idiocy, arrogance and unwarranted bloodshed, with no benevolent deity to watch over and save us. John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, John Hinckley Jr. - where are you now that we need you?"
http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/Read.aspx?GUI ...
Randi Rhodes:
"Comparing Bush and his family to the Corleones of “Godfather” fame, Air America host Randi Rhodes reportedly unleashed this zinger during her Monday night broadcast: “Like Fredo, somebody ought to take him out fishing and phuw. ”
Rhodes then imitated the sound of a gunshot."

"On Air America, talk show host Randi Rhodes recommended doing to Bush what Michael Corleone, in ``The Godfather, Part II," does to his brother. ``Like Fredo," she said, ``somebody ought to take him out fishing and phuw!" -- then imitated the sound of a gunshot. In the Guardian, a leading British daily, columnist Charlie Brooker issued a plea: ``John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, John Hinckley Jr. -- where are you now that we need you?" - TwistedSheep, on 05/27/2008, -0/+3That's interesting, I'll try and dig up that show, thanks for the link.
but, in fairness, Jeff Jacoby is a conservative columnist, at least Wikipedia stated that he was hired to balance out the more liberal leaning columnists of the Boston Globe.
Also that he consistently defends the Bush administration's policies, as well as the Israeli government.
I'll see if i can't dig up the recording of that show. - TwistedSheep, on 05/27/2008, -1/+2Well, it would appear that you are correct. I can't get a hold of that show's recording, due to Randi Rhodes leaving AAR and them subsequently removing their show archives of her.
I wish there were more sources than Michelle Malkin and this Jeff Jacoby though, i couldn't find any others.
But, it would appear that she did make that joke, i wish that people on my side of the isle were consistently above the bar with such comments. I guess not everyone in the political talk world is an angel. In Randi's defense, Godfather II was a great move. Also, now it's our turn to be pissed. - p0s3r, on 05/27/2008, -1/+2In her defense Godfather II was a great movie? Are you serious? Thats the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
Don't you find it odd that you can only find a few sources for it? It's almost as if people expect that kind of behavior from your side of the aisle or something. Scroll up and look at the other examples from Malkin's column or Jacoby's column. Each one of those, had they been about Obama, would've been non-stop news for 2 or 3 cycles and the internet rage & hysteria would've been legendary. - TwistedSheep, on 05/27/2008, -1/+1it's called a joke, get a grip. Also, I doubt that was the single most ridiculous thing you have ever heard.
I do find it odd that i can only find a few sources of it. It's almost like it's a partially fabricated occurrence of the corporate media contorting a show segment and making it sound like Randi made a comment about Bush and Fredo. But I don't know, and I'm dubious about taking Michelle Malkin and Jeff Jacoby's words for it.
Thanks for the civil conversation.

We used to live in a country where free speech was encouraged. Because of the first amendment, we get to speak our minds, but people like you go off the deep end every time someone says something distasteful or that you disagree with. Hate her, deplore her, say whatever you want back to her, but please, do not try to limit her ability to speak. Regardless of the message, she deserves the same rights we all should have - a chance to be heard (that is, unless you've been dugg down too far).

- twiztidsinz, on 05/27/2008, -6/+8It's not about being offensive or saying something that people disagree with. It's about threatening a person's live either directly or indirectly by putting the idea into someone's head.
From the article:
"Assassins throughout our history have repeatedly claimed to find their motivations in the media. John Hinckley claimed his attempted assassination of Reagan was because of his obsession with Jodie Foster, Mark David Chapman cited The Catcher in the Rye and the film Ordinary People as inspirations for his assassination of John Lennon, and Charles Manson claims his murders were a result of his twisted interpretation of The Beatles' "Helter Skelter."
While these so-called motivations are inexplicable to a healthy mind, it is foolish and naive not to accept as a terrifying fact that psychotics can and will be triggered by almost anything, which is why it's not only vulgar but completely reckless, irresponsible and bordering on criminal for those who comment on politics and political figures to say the kind of disgusting thing that Liz Trotta said."- SRSco, on 05/27/2008, -5/+3Oh give me a break. You think her "indirect threat" was put into somebody's head? Some maniac was watching Fox and once she said those words was like "OMG...I can totally kill Obama?" GTFO.

- jaydoj, on 05/27/2008, -2/+7My comment on the petition site:
Liz Trotta's comments on Fox news were absolutely despicable. It is deplorable to see a broadcast company such as Fox display such horrible anti-American filth. These comments come on the wake of Memorial Day, and she has the nerve to make such rash statements. A network like Fox prides itself on being a 'no-spin' network, yet displays such filth? It's terrible, and as a proud American, I feel that Liz Trotta should be fired, and investigated by the Secret Service. If we continue to pride ourselves on our so-called national security, yet allow comments like this to be made on a public forum, it is yet another hypocritical example of how the Bush Administration continues to degrade the quality of our great nation. As a citizen, I urge you to investigate this and make a very serious example of Liz Trotta. - sassip, on 05/27/2008, -1/+4Boycott Fox Advertisers:

- Sil369, on 05/27/2008, -10/+3"but saying "I hope" and giggling isn't even in the same league as calling outright for a killing."
King George Bush practices his speeches by talking to himself in the mirror doing just this.- knumbknuts, on 05/27/2008, -3/+4Regardless of politics, that was a tremendously weak response, even by digg standards.
- Pyehole, on 05/27/2008, -1/+6Actually I hope they do investigate. If they don't, it would be a break from how they normally respond and that change of behavior would be a bigger problem than having the freedom to make a "joke" on air. They always look into into anything said that might possibly involve a person who would do harm to the president (or in this case a presidential candidate) which means something that seems innocuous, such as a poorly written letter to the white house will get the attention of the Secret Service. I'm sure they'll walk away and realize there was never any real threat, but FOX should be held to the same standards as a run of the mill kook on the street would be.
- lamiaconfitor, on 05/27/2008, -2/+6yeah, right... like they never ever investigate threats against the presidents life. now if they arrest her without need or warrant, then you have something new happening.

- Badandy127, on 05/27/2008, -27/+13Investigate Fox News and Trotta for threats? You people who think they should be investigated are absolute loons. Trotta was an idiot, and she should probably be fired for it, but if you think that was a call to action, you've never heard a call to action. Besides, the Fox guy immediately dismissed the comment "Why don't you tell us how you really feel?" as a way of distancing himself from her stupid rhetoric.
Stop taking things so personally and thinking that Fox and this woman should be investigated or charged for something. What a joke.- kreneskyp, on 05/27/2008, -1/+4why don't you write a letter to the president telling him you think he should get killed as a joke and see what kind of response it gets you.
- Badandy127, on 05/31/2008, -0/+0Sorry, a comment made in passing in a completely non-assuming, non-aggressive context is not writing a letter addressed to the White House.
- kreneskyp, on 05/27/2008, -1/+4why don't you write a letter to the president telling him you think he should get killed as a joke and see what kind of response it gets you.
- badqat, on 05/27/2008, -13/+10Well, to end your speculation, since it appears that some are waiting for the Huff and Puff post to answer it for them, I offer a single word:
No. - the3stars, on 05/27/2008, -6/+54What amazes me is that almost no one is picking this story up. You can bet if someone on ABC made a comment about McCain like this, all the major outlets would be going nuts over it. Lets hope we can start the ball rolling here at digg.(com)
- badqat, on 05/27/2008, -14/+4Yes, get the ball rolling here at digg, because after it's duped a million times, well, you'll just have wasted a whole lot of time. But if it makes you feel better...
- the3stars, on 05/27/2008, -3/+6how much of the time we spend at digg is actually productive?
- badqat, on 05/27/2008, -10/+1For Obamabots continually preaching to their own choir...none. I guess the repeated duplication of the same inane "stores" brings you closer together, but it's accomplishing nary a thing.
But like I said, if it makes you feel better... - the3stars, on 05/27/2008, -0/+6Take a look at your comment history, I think you're more of a bot than anyone here. Why don't you spend some time explaining what it is that you like about whatever presidential candidate you support, rather than refuting every positive thing that is said about Obama?
- p0s3r, on 05/27/2008, -4/+2Because there is nothing irrefutably positive about Obama.
- badqat, on 05/27/2008, -10/+1For Obamabots continually preaching to their own choir...none. I guess the repeated duplication of the same inane "stores" brings you closer together, but it's accomplishing nary a thing.

- sugarazor, on 05/27/2008, -1/+9It hasn't been picked up because it happened over a holiday weekend, news outlets are working with bare bones staff. I'm sure people will be all over it tomorrow.
- triad203, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1It's tomorrow (now today) and no one but Olbermann is giving this any air-time.
- sugarazor, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1Then I stand corrected.
- triad203, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1It's tomorrow (now today) and no one but Olbermann is giving this any air-time.
- Barackalypse, on 05/27/2008, -9/+3Oh please, McCain would go beat that person's ass himself, at least according to the many stories dugg up here about McCain's temper.
- sdipaola, on 05/27/2008, -0/+7I sent mail to the nytimes, cnn, npr and democracy now, the day it happened. I asked them to report on it. still waiting.
- Pixelpaws, on 05/27/2008, -3/+2It's probably not getting picked up because the rest of the MSM doesn't take Fox News seriously. Comments about assassination deserve to be both reported on and investigated, but sadly, I fear that won't be the case.
- badqat, on 05/27/2008, -14/+4Yes, get the ball rolling here at digg, because after it's duped a million times, well, you'll just have wasted a whole lot of time. But if it makes you feel better...
- Lst01, on 05/27/2008, -23/+12It was a stupid and highly offensive joke, but that's all it was--an attempted joke. If you watch the video, it's clear that she's not calling for him to be killed. She thought she was being funny.
- mytealjacket, on 05/27/2008, -4/+11Since there is true concern over Obama's safety, it's not funny at all. Nor would it be if it were about someone else. You don't joke 'like that', this woman is supposed to be mature and professional.
The worst part about it, is it seemed almost obvious she intentionally mixed-up Obama with Osama. I hope the 'joke' part wasn't scripted as well.- Lst01, on 05/27/2008, -3/+1I agree that it wasn't funny. What I said was that she thought it was funny.
And many people have mixed up Osama & Obama while speaking, including Ted Kennedy, who endorsed him.- mytealjacket, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1Ah, I see Lst01. I guess I'm suspicious of Fox News because they seem to have such a conservative bias, and want to paint Obama in a 'bad' light (ie constantly emphasizing his middle name, showing him with the traditional African clothes, incorrectly saying he went to a Muslim school).
I agree with you that she wasn't directly calling for him to be killed, but her nonchalance is frightening and totally unacceptable.
- mytealjacket, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1Ah, I see Lst01. I guess I'm suspicious of Fox News because they seem to have such a conservative bias, and want to paint Obama in a 'bad' light (ie constantly emphasizing his middle name, showing him with the traditional African clothes, incorrectly saying he went to a Muslim school).
- davewashere, on 05/27/2008, -1/+2You're going to see Fox News making the Obama/Osama mix-up on a regular basis for the next 6 months. They need their viewers to fear him and associate his name with Islamic terrorism and to spread rumors about his un-Christian activities.
- Lst01, on 05/27/2008, -3/+1I agree that it wasn't funny. What I said was that she thought it was funny.
- ultar6, on 05/27/2008, -1/+5I agree with mytealjacket, particularly because this is the third incident that I know about. First it was Huckabee and his joke in front of the NRA. Then it was Clinton and her reference to the RFK assasination. Now it's a Fox News analyst who thinks its funny to suggest assassination and couple that with a reference that equates Obama with Osama.
These pundits also need to realize that it's not at all clever of them to continuously point out that Obama rhymes with Osama.
- mytealjacket, on 05/27/2008, -4/+11Since there is true concern over Obama's safety, it's not funny at all. Nor would it be if it were about someone else. You don't joke 'like that', this woman is supposed to be mature and professional.
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 05/27/2008, -20/+12Hillary Clinton suggested it, too. Is she being investigated?
- sugarazor, on 05/27/2008, -5/+10Hillary Clinton's comment was nowhere near as bad as this.
- mytealjacket, on 05/27/2008, -5/+12Though she didn't say it as directly. I still thing what Hilary said was wrong, but Liz's comment tops it.
Could you just imagine, if say, 20 years ago a woman ran for president and got assassinated, and then Obama brought this up to explain why he was in the race? People would ***** bricks.
- nvisn, on 05/27/2008, -20/+4Ok article but Faux News is not broadcast on "public airwaves". It is only on cable.
- kc8yds, on 05/27/2008, -2/+7cable is indeed broadcast on frequencies which in this country are controlled by the fcc (and are 'public' with regulation)

http://www.debone.com/boycottFoxNewsSponsors.html - CryTekEmployee, on 05/27/2008, -18/+6I'd bone and digg Megan Fox. Why does Liz Trotta (who is pretty ugly), keep getting more attention than Megan Fox, or even Hilary Duff?
- jaydoj, on 05/27/2008, -0/+11what the ***** are you talking about?
- Pillage, on 05/27/2008, -2/+6I have no idea, but I agree 100% with him
- jaydoj, on 05/27/2008, -2/+1oh totally, but I was a bit confused at the comment, it's like it just went in and out.
...and yes, thats what she said - synergye, on 05/27/2008, -3/+2I agree...now why's he being dugg down? You all know you would rather see Megan Fox on the FP!

- jer.williams, on 05/27/2008, -29/+21I'm as liberal as they come, but all these huffingtonpost links are making me sick. They're as overtly liberal as FOX is conservative.
- sugarazor, on 05/27/2008, -13/+11Yes but reality has a well known liberal bias.
- synergye, on 05/27/2008, -7/+2I don't even know what that's supposed to mean
- SillyDigger, on 05/27/2008, -1/+4If someone tells you "I'm an (whatever) supporter but ..." or "I'm as (whatever) as they come but..." in all likelihood they're lying their asses off :)
- jahurt, on 05/27/2008, -1/+3The difference is that the Huffington Post is up front about their political advocacy, while Fox News pretends to practice unbiased journalism.
- SpacePoet, on 05/27/2008, -1/+1Whaaaaa. Seriously, I'm sick of people telling me what is and what isn't acceptable sources. I think I'm old enough to make my own judgments - for there is truth in both, you just have to figure it out.
- sugarazor, on 05/27/2008, -13/+11Yes but reality has a well known liberal bias.
- FishHammer, on 05/27/2008, -24/+9The point is if Keith Olbermann made a comment about assassinating Bush for being a ***** president, nobody would give a flying *****. Since it's Jesus Obama it everyone's going ape ***** about it but really it's not that obscure of an idea. I hate the state of Digg right now.
- SaladCactusKing, on 05/27/2008, -8/+5The same people spamming the same stories. If it's not some political ***** its wacky lists from Babyman. I really wish the Digg team would intervene but frankly, I think they're in on it.
- sugarazor, on 05/27/2008, -2/+14If Keith Olbermann made a comment about assassinating Bush, FOX News and the right-wing media would call for him to be burned alive in the middle of Times Square.
- Twenty, on 05/27/2008, -5/+4"Mob rule"
- lamiaconfitor, on 05/27/2008, -2/+8If your hypothetical world were put to the test I am sure you would be proven wrong, neocon.
- Drogoganor, on 05/27/2008, -0/+7Don't kid yourself you wanker. The right would pillory Keith Olbermann. Hell they already do.
- knumbknuts, on 05/27/2008, -42/+18Oh come on,
You are happy Trotta made the comment, you typical digger, you.
It gave you the chance to stamp your little feet in indignation. Umbrage is ssssooooo '08.
It allowed you to ignore the Bill of Rights because you like a guy's eloquence.
More than anything, it gave you another couple of days free of actual policy discussions based on voting records and legislative experience.
Another 6 months of Trottas and your man may not be exposed as the empty but eloquent suit that he is.- Drogoganor, on 05/27/2008, -4/+15***** irony. You pricks should talk about ignoring the bill of rights.
- knumbknuts, on 05/27/2008, -9/+4"You pricks?"
You mean, people who, apparently, disagree with you?
I have had the priviledge of swearing an oath to defend the Constitution. The closest you've probably come is playing the latest Call of Duty series.- gutistg, on 05/27/2008, -0/+2And that's why your opinion is biased and not to be taken seriously.
- knumbknuts, on 05/27/2008, -1/+1Because I've sworn an oath in my lifetime to defend the Constitution of the United States? I love it. You have taken being a digger to its logical conclusion: 98% of what goes on here is a knee jerk reaction to those with whom diggers disagree.
It doesn't amount to anything, but it is amusing to come in here and swing hammers and watch those left feet go up.

- Rsulliv1, on 05/27/2008, -1/+3standard faux news troll.
No original thoughts & no reason.
no need to comment to this person until they have actually read on the candidate's voting records & legislative experience. There is nothing to be gained from talking to an empty seat.- knumbknuts, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1Actually, I watch MSNBC and CNN.
I would love to read on Obama's voting record and legislative experience. Rather, I would love it if there were more to read... I've read what there is and it's about a lunchtime's worth.
- knumbknuts, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1Actually, I watch MSNBC and CNN.
- Intercon, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1We'll just see who's the empty suit when the debates start. McCain is going to have his ass handed to him.

- Drogoganor, on 05/27/2008, -4/+15***** irony. You pricks should talk about ignoring the bill of rights.
- lhbaker, on 05/27/2008, -18/+8I'm a leftie, and I heart Obama, but I personally heard assassination jokes on Air America (Morning Sedition, for sure) and didn't see this level of outrage, or anything approaching it. On the other hand, just to be fair, I knew that what I was hearing was satire. Liz Trotta has never been regarded as a satirist. I can't see where her speech is protected. If it is, where do we draw the line? Rwanda proved that the masses will commit murder if the TV and radio tell them it is okay.

dmark77 and schepsMS, shame on you both.- dmark77, on 05/27/2008, -0/+2You are putting words in my mouth Sir, I am only pointing out a fact given her what appears to be old age.

- dmark77, on 05/27/2008, -1/+1Nonsense. Propaganda would imply I am working for somebody. I speak for myself, and the only way you could get me to write propaganda would be to pay me. If anything, I am using my first amendment rights to say (write) what I want.

- Seemefearme, on 05/27/2008, -4/+2It's a nice change from everyone making it a bigger deal than it is. Her comment was not thought through and it was obvious she made a mistake. The reason nothing is happening is because the rest of the world doesn't care what you people are drama-queening about. Things happen. People say unintentional things.
She apologized. That's enough for me, and it should be enough for you if you truly are progressive like Obama is.

- KingLeo, on 05/27/2008, -1/+3you missed the part where she said "well, BOTH if we could..." both means two people, which in this case she was referring to OBL -AND- Obama.
- ultar6, on 05/27/2008, -1/+2Throw a little spin in and it all looks like an innocent comment...until you remember the following quote...
"When she was corrected and reminded that she meant 'Obama,' she then said, 'Well, both if we could.'"- Soave, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1Honestly, I took that to mean "if someone took out Obama, it'd be nice if they took out Osama too." I don't at all think she was suggesting that someone should kill Obama.
- ultar6, on 05/30/2008, -0/+0And your ridiculous rationalization makes the comment any better how? Are you saying she proposed a macabre trade that subverts the will of the American people?
Your interpretation makes no sense. How does 'Well, BOTH if we could' translate to nothing more than 'it'd be nice if they took out Osama too."?

The better question is what sort of monsters has the world had for leaders that killing them represents the most sensible solution to saving millions of lives? You might ponder Stalin, Hilter, Mao, Pol Pot, Mugabe, and a laundry list of other tyrants before you suggest that the divisions are the problems instead of the tyranny of oppressive men backed by the force of government. The divisions are the only buffer you have against totalitarianism. Absent men willing to die to protect the Republic from foreign and domestic threats, your freedom will be lost. - p0s3r, on 05/27/2008, -15/+4If something, God forbid, happens to Obama because the SS is too busy dealing with this *****, every single one of you moronic Chicken Littles should be taken for a long walk off a short pier.

Comments made like these should not be tolerated, just like the one Hillary Clinton made about Bobby Kennedy, then try and smooth over it like it was nothing, they can't put the genie back in the damn bottle! - Drogoganor, on 05/27/2008, -6/+7Pathetic apologism from the right who enabled the Bush administration in the first place. The purposely meant to say "Osama" which was her catalyst to mentioning that someone should shoot both Osama and Obama. Whats even more disturbing that she laughed off her comments, and the host of the show essentially approved the comments by not confronting her. It is people like her, the host of that show, and the Executives at Fox who sicken me.
I am very thankful that no matter how hard some media outlets and rivals try to diminish Obama, they never succeed. I am a white working class individual who fully supports Obama. I think he is just what our country needs right now. - malanic, on 05/27/2008, -4/+7"And what is the question the rest of us should be asking? How about, what kind of world are we creating for ourselves and our children where we allow our political divisions to become so deep that the suggestion or even the joke about a political assassination is in any way acceptable?"
I agree:
"Assassination is still on the table, but it is only one possibility out of many"

Is this a case of double standards for the Huff Post, or was that article supposed to be serious journalism instead of a satirical joke about assassination?
If they want to be taken seriously, then they should leave satire to the Onion. - FartyMcFarter, on 05/27/2008, -10/+9LIZ A TROTTA

- EvilCan, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1That's officially going too far. Are you trying to get someone to assassinate her or something?
- laserblazer, on 05/27/2008, -5/+11Fox News is for idiots, Bush is an idiot, Bush's supporters are idiots and John McCain is an idiot. Let's stop focusing on what we already know and move beyond the idiot circus.
- Maverick0420, on 05/27/2008, -1/+2as is MSNBC and all other news networks. They are all biased in their own way seems only Headline News is unbiased during the days cause it just reports stories and not liberal or conservative opinions like Fox or MSNBC.
Im pro conservative and watch Fox and hate MSNBC liberalism just as liberals hate Fox Conservatism and love their Hippie MSNBC news - bbqsalad, on 05/27/2008, -2/+2Loving any news show this day and age I think makes you an idiot. Drama created by sad humans.
- canyoudiggitman, on 05/27/2008, -2/+1You are an idiot...

- JointVenture, on 05/27/2008, -4/+4You ***** were all supporting the kid who wore the T-shirt saying kill bush as free speech.
What a miserable lot.
How about those issues, you cant run from them forever. - VieRelative, on 05/27/2008, -1/+1Actually, this is really what the secret service does. They run around and interview people that make offhand comments in public about killing a presidential candidate. Maybe they're afraid that some crazies somewhere will take it as a suggestion and do the deed.
- skinturtle, on 05/27/2008, -0/+2I wish to smash Fox news and all the shills coming here to defend their beloved and corrupt corporation.
- shauncorleone, on 05/27/2008, -1/+2While they're at it, they should investigate Oliver Stone. Or does that not fit the profile for Digg outrage, because Barack's not the subject?
Freedom of speech is not exclusive to your point of view, Obamabots. -
