- rvandy, on 09/11/2008, -9/+143It seems this defense would also excuse our current President's behavior.
- Liembo, on 09/11/2008, -11/+95Would Palin agree that these killings the are Will of God like she does the ones in Iraq?
- inactive, on 09/11/2008, -3/+75"Clearly there are significant mental health issues at play"
noooooooo *****. - BeefBaron, on 09/12/2008, -12/+84The man believes in a god. That should have been the first indication of mental instability.
- oboredone, on 09/11/2008, -30/+96Buried for ***** headline.
The man is responsible for his own actions. - PimNL, on 09/12/2008, -5/+68God is more active in the USA than in europe i believe.. Religious articles hare hitting the frontpage so often.. I don't know anybody in the netherlands who believes in god.. Except some grandma's..
Nowadays there is so much information available for everybody to form an opinion.. How the hell can you believe in fairytales? - Rudegar, on 09/12/2008, -5/+53NEVER! clearly it GTA IV is to blame!
- Azerael, on 09/12/2008, -4/+43Science might not have all of the answers, but it has the only "answers" worth a damn. An "answer" reached through any other means is delusion.
- inactive, on 09/12/2008, -3/+41Amen to that. We may not have all the answers, but I'm far more comfortable saying "I don't know" than saying that a 2,000-year-old book of fairy tales is somehow more reliable than the scientific method.
- inactive, on 09/12/2008, -4/+40"God told me to invade Iraq"
- GWB.
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/b ... - ImBarryScott, on 09/12/2008, -4/+39The argument is not that 'its religions fault' the argument is that it is a double standard to heap praise on people who do good and claim it is in gods name or that 'god told me to help people', then tell other people who claim that 'god told me to kill him' that they are insane.
If we are to judge people insane for saying that god talked to them, then everyone else who says it, for right or wrong should also be judged mentally ill. - inactive, on 09/11/2008, -11/+44Buried your comment for speaking about 'gods' as if they are actual proven fact of some kind.
- asaccin, on 09/12/2008, -6/+39Can anyone prove that God DIDN'T tell him to go on a shooting spree? Guess he just had faith...
- Trublmakr, on 09/11/2008, -5/+37All part of Gods great plan. Perhaps Zamora should in turn be executed for God - This to complete His almighty killing spree and get a divine Xbox 360 Achievement.
- Evildudetx, on 09/12/2008, -5/+35Gotta love the mythical non-existant being told me to do it excuse.
- NikoKun, on 09/12/2008, -5/+33Your "God" has done some pretty horrible things, to some pretty undeserving people... Or have you not read your own holy book? =P
- sk11, on 09/12/2008, -2/+30Reminds me of a Texan mother who received reassurance, from church goers, about hearing voices. They claimed that she was lucky as god was directly speaking to her. Of course, they later claimed it was the devil all along when the voices drove her to murder her three young children.
Now, the thing is, if she had been living in a non-religious, "scientific society," her peers would surely have told her to seek immediate medical help. Whereas religious people are compelled to believe that some people really could hear god directly talking to them. - Logicexe, on 09/12/2008, -2/+30I think people are misunderstanding the point. No one is denying that this guy was crazy. The point is that when people find inspiration or receive commandments from God to do good things they receive some of the highest praise you can get, but when you kill or do something bad in God's name you're either crazy, or perverting the religion, or an extremist.
The point is the double standard. You do something good for your religion and no one ever questions whether you actually received the message from God or not. Do something bad in religion's name and all of a sudden everyone puts on their "critical thinking" cap and he is labeled crazy. Few people stop to ask the question "is it possible that God really did tell him to do those things?"
Have you people read the bible? Gd can be a real ***** sometimes. He didn't have a problem ordering people to do horrible things back then, why would he have a problem with it now? - bowens44, on 09/12/2008, -4/+31really......? I guess you've never read the bible.
- LucasVB, on 09/12/2008, -5/+30*Jack Thompson mode* Let's ban religion and the bible!
It's the same situation here, but you won't see that happening. Of course, the truth is the guy was ***** crazy, and that's all there is to it. That's always all there is to it. - scoobyImprz2000, on 09/12/2008, -5/+28@:*
*Laughs* Is God or any God not to blame for all the wars and unrest in the world?. Some people say God tells them to strap on a suicide bomb and kill non believers. Others fly planes in to building and claim they are on a mission from god.
I Think All religion is a sign of mental Illness. I mean what sane person gets on their knees and starts muttering away to themselves. This guy just stepped it up a level and start killing. - MysticSavage, on 09/12/2008, -3/+26I don't think it was God...mainly because the Easter Bunny has been showing a lot of anger lately.
- thefirelane, on 09/12/2008, -2/+25>God would not or could not have ordered you to do it
Like... I dunno, say taking your son up onto a mountain and bludgeoning him to death with a rock? God would indeed ask you to do that.
Religious people counter that God intervened and stopped the killing, but that's not the point... the point being, if you are Christian, and God commands you, then you have to unquestioningly do what is said. - redcodenl, on 09/12/2008, -2/+23Seriously?
Its not like he commands people to offer their own kids or something...
Or kill a lot of people...
Or give your wife and daughter to some over-sexed citizens so they wouldn't rape angels...
Or... wait, that all IS in the bible! - sk11, on 09/12/2008, -3/+24Yeah as if someone who could become the most powerful person in the entire world is worth talking about.
- chase001, on 09/12/2008, -7/+27Faith is a form of mental illness that can be cured with therapy, education and medicine.
- sproket, on 09/12/2008, -4/+23Anyone who believes in god has mental health issues
- bman2380, on 09/12/2008, -6/+25Sarah Palin would give this guy a purple heart for his work.
- pintomp3, on 09/12/2008, -4/+22no but if he did it in the name of allah this would have been called terrorism.
- snds, on 09/12/2008, -4/+22At last count, according the all the old testament scriptures where God kills infants, Egyptians, Canaanites, etc. He has racked up a death toll of nearly 400,000 on his own. And if you add in death's caused in "His" name by followers we end up with a little over 2 million from various holy wars such as the Crusades, the colonial witch hunts, etc.
God is hardly innocent. He must have a severe inferiority complex to have to kill people because they don't believe in him. - uskomaton, on 09/12/2008, -3/+20Funny, this guy is mental but Palin/McCain/Bush are totally sane.
Interesting double standard there.
I say charge them all with murder or no one, what makes Palin/McCain/Bush
so righteous and this guy insane? - Slovenian6474, on 09/12/2008, -7/+24Believe in God or not, the fact is he CHOSE to listen and follow. If you replace the words "God" with "Frank down the street" he still chose to listen and kill those people. Can't pass the blame on the kindergarten classic excuse "It's not my fault! He told me to do it!"
- SoulGrub, on 09/12/2008, -4/+21Why? Their logic is identical.
- sk11, on 09/12/2008, -2/+18In the bible, there are many examples of god commanding people to do bad things.
- legoman666, on 09/12/2008, -4/+18"History teaches us that no other has brought more death than the word of god."
- Fhwqhgads, on 09/12/2008, -11/+25Bush kills in the name of God as well.
But he's a good guy.... - Kyrgizion, on 09/12/2008, -3/+16Church shootings have occurred, but NEVER in the name of atheism.
I love how religious zealots always bring that up even though it's actually an argument AGAINST them. - EarlOfLade, on 09/12/2008, -1/+13What is it NRA use to say" Gods don't kill, humans do!
And when you think that mythological figures from the bronze age are real, you ARE a mental nutcase, period! - inactive, on 09/12/2008, -4/+16Right, so the other religious folk who believe in an invisible talking deity that helps them with petty problems on a daily basis don't suffer from some mental illness? Religion is one big double standard.
Do something good in the name of god, you're a saint. Do somethng bad, you have a mental illness.
If you pray and if whatever you prayed for happens, it's a miracle from god. If it doesn't happen, it was just god's will.
It's ridiculous! - inactive, on 09/12/2008, -2/+14Appeal to popularity is a logical fallacy.
- DotGet, on 09/12/2008, -2/+13See, there's a difference between believing something and using those beliefs in political decisionmaking. Religious nuts may not believe gays should be together, but their decision when voting on such a topic should have absolutely nothing to do with the bible; "seperation of church and state". Have you forgotten what this country stands for? "Get used to it?" Go choke on a Jesus wafer.
- inactive, on 09/12/2008, -1/+11They're all the god of war if you want them to be.
- Cerialthriller, on 09/12/2008, -4/+14but Frank down the street didn't die for your sins!
- Greengoo, on 09/12/2008, -2/+12Reminds me of that Simpsons bit where Lisa is Joan of Arc, and they call God as a witness. The punchline is that he told both sides to kill in his name because he "never expected to meet you both at the same time...."
- inactive, on 09/12/2008, -4/+13Well, he's been behind most death, so from past experience, I would say yes.
- legoman666, on 09/12/2008, -2/+11"Religion has caused more misery to all of mankind in every stage of human history than any other single idea."
- zeebo, on 09/12/2008, -3/+12Yahveh: Wanted in connection with various murders in the US and around the world. Has ties to numerous extremist groups, and should be considered dangerous. Most often described as tall elderly man with long white beard. Report all sightings to Seele.
- tigertiger, on 09/12/2008, -3/+12Great, so not only is he made up, but he's an ***** too.
- JagoRayken, on 09/12/2008, -3/+11I'm sure there are parts in the bible were god told some guy to do something bad.
Like telling that dude to sacrifice his own son for one.
jeez religion is so hyprocitical. - raada, on 09/12/2008, -2/+10I don't who's to blame, but that guy used the same logic as all religious people; someone who he never met or seen told him to do something and he followed what he/she said.... Pretty straightforward actually.
People: Don't listen to people who doesn't exist and don't follow any orders they might give you. -
