- SirPopper, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Wikipedia:
"The Salvador Option was a term quoted in a January 8, 2005 article in Newsweek[1]. This phrase was used to refer to options then being intensely debated in Pentagon and Iraqi government circles for dealing with the rapidly growing insurgency movement in Iraq, drawing an explicit analogy to the U.S. military involvement in El Salvador, in which quasi-official death squads were instrumental in bringing a decade-long war against FMLN to a close. The article quoted anonymous military insiders, and did not specify the precise origin of the phrase "Salvador Option", or explicitly say that those words were actually used by Pentagon sources."

But they will still all be tortured and detained for months on end without trial, out of which a few dozen will try to take their own lives and another couple of dozen will tell the torturers whatever they want to hear.
Yay, democracy.
I remember seeing a figure that only 7% of all terrorist suspects were actually rounded-up by US forces. The remainder were brought in by Iraqi rebels who actually get paid for their captures. Nice system there. Drag some poor fellow off the street and sell him to the US as a terror suspect where he'll be tortured for months on end before finally being released, where he'll then become a terrorist and use every ounce of strength within him to fight back and remove the evil oppressive force that is the US presence in Iraq.
***** appalling. - blackjack75, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1As the article states, those are Sunni insurgents.
