- CeruleanRed, on 06/22/2009, -1/+24We are not perfect. But all things considered, we are a pretty good country. As we all work to move through this recession, I look forward to their contribution.
Welcome. - MrBogard, on 06/22/2009, -0/+14They could work for some security consulting firm in Iraq.
- theutopian, on 06/22/2009, -3/+12Read the article: they're the Iraqi's who made the mistake of helping the US in it's occupation. They're collaborators that will most likely be killed if they return to Iraw. It's not THEIR fault we invaded their country so we have a duty to protect them.
- SystemicThought, on 06/22/2009, -0/+9Social Security needs jobs to have Social Security.
- poidh, on 06/22/2009, -6/+13They should go back to Iraq and help their country to prosper.
- LordByr0n, on 06/22/2009, -2/+8Day derk er jerrbs
- cygnus2112, on 06/22/2009, -1/+7The recession is affecting everyone. Non-Iraqi and Iraqi alike. They just have to hang on until the economy stabilizes.
- inactive, on 06/22/2009, -4/+9Not as a big disappointment to find most americans don't wear cowboy hats or look chiseled like Rambo.
- ASSASSYN360, on 06/22/2009, -0/+5I am leaving to Iraq to find a job tomorrow.
- shedtroll, on 06/22/2009, -3/+8We killed der friends!
- MWeather, on 06/22/2009, -0/+4Social Security needs jobs AND population growth. It's a pyramid scheme. Without an increasing amount of new members, it just doesn't work.
- falafelkiosken, on 06/22/2009, -0/+4the difference between recession in America and recession in communist countries like North Korea is that it's always recession in the latter, and people don't starve to death in America
- endgame, on 06/22/2009, -7/+11I'm pretty sure I'll get dugg down for this one but it's honestly how I feel. I live in California & as many of you know we are flooded here with millions of uneducated, illegal immigrants that do nothing for our society but breed & feed off our Government system. And dont give me that lame argument that these people are "feeding America" or "they do the jobs Americans wont do". I know plenty of U.S. CITIZENS that would gladly take these jobs now that there unemployed. My point is we need to STOP importing people into our country. I suggest we ONLY accept the most educated & brightest individuals in our country to add to the tax base & make it a better place to live overall. This was a dumb move by the U.S.
- inactive, on 06/22/2009, -0/+4No some are round orange and have a Spalding T shirt..
- pathouston22, on 06/22/2009, -2/+6Just bad timing. Come over during good economic times, life will be much easier - but obviously they can't pick when to come over. Perfect example: "God Grew Tired of Us: The Story of Lost Boys of Sudan"
If you haven't seen it, watch it: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0301555
Warning: Demonstrates that the American dream is real. May not sit well with many diggers. - SystemicThought, on 06/22/2009, -3/+6In the blue states.
- abadonn, on 06/22/2009, -0/+2I'm a college graduated white man, and I can't find a job. This isn't racism, its just a ***** time for everyone.
- inactive, on 06/22/2009, -4/+6I'm sure they'll do just fine.
- falafelkiosken, on 06/22/2009, -0/+2everyone back in the pile
- mandarin, on 06/22/2009, -0/+2I dont think you have to be Iraqi to be denied a job. Everyone's affected.
- mrmod, on 06/22/2009, -1/+3What ensures the standard here(in the US) is higher?
- BossKey, on 06/22/2009, -2/+4You're saying this article is not about the most educated and brightest?
"The fact that many Iraqi refugee doctors, highly qualified English speakers, are working in McDonalds, if they have a job at all, is an extraordinary waste of human capital, Carey said." - toefinder, on 06/23/2009, -0/+1So many Americans are out of work. Foreigners should have to wait for work until all qualified citizens are employed, Then they can have their turn. Local hands in Unions sign book 1 and wait in line for a job. Traveling union workers sign book 2 Book 2 doesn't open until all on book 1 are offered the job first. That's the way it should be with immigrant labor. Try getting a job in England or Canada as an American citizen you have to go through an act of Parliament to get qualified. This is fair. There is nothing racist or immoral about it. The jobs that have been sent overseas need to come back here while we are at it.
- sonder, on 06/24/2009, -0/+1Cry me a river, Mohammad.
- poidh, on 06/23/2009, -0/+1They were paid well for their help. They should stay, like the millions of others who colaborated who have stayed.
- DrJG, on 06/24/2009, -0/+1"The irony is that many Iraqi refugees are highly educated and have advanced degrees and high skill levels yet find themselves unable to find work in their professions, whether as doctors, civil engineers or other specialized professions, because of U.S. certification requirements. The fact that many Iraqi refugee doctors, highly qualified English speakers, are working in McDonald's, if they have a job at all, is an extraordinary waste of human capital, Carey said. Dunn Marcos said employers looking at applicants might hesitate to hire a physician who speaks several languages, for example, and instead choose a low-skilled applicant because of fear that the physician might leave at the first possible chance."
Naming extraordinary ability such as proficiency at more than one language is a new veil for racism. - inactive, on 06/22/2009, -0/+1"rat bastards" :)
Try a more "bi-partisan" approach to your hate, you'll be closer to reality. - beetrixi, on 06/22/2009, -0/+1It's a ship of lost souls, up in this joint.
- bigp3rm, on 06/22/2009, -8/+9Hey I'm an American. I had a great job with a lot of plans for the future. Until some thieves and rat bastards got away with robbing me and my country men.
As long as reruns of Friends and Jerry Springer are in rotation the sheeple of America wont give a *****. - deinosmos, on 06/22/2009, -1/+2Go fight in Iraq, user500.
- cheezintern, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1whoa whoa, Jerry Springer is greatly entertaining and doesn't compete with any news programs in his time slot. So take your anti Springer attitude somewhere else.
Friends on the other hand...that needs to go - inactive, on 06/22/2009, -5/+5The Bush II reign of terror (which was an extension of the Reagan/Bush presidency, which was a direct extension of Nixon's) was basically 8 years of pedal-to-the-metal warfare on the middle class. How is it possible that people can't see this when the results are staring them right in the face? Now Prince Obama has sealed our fate by bailing out huge, bloated crumbling castle corporations all at the middle class' expense.
It's boggled my mind for years how the Repukes and Democraps have managed to get such a large percentage of non-wealthy people voting for them and against their own self-interest. I guess when you don't have much of an education or anything else, a pretty pipe dream can be a powerful lure. Combine that with base drives like greed and fear and it's a stunningly potent motivator. - bradleyland, on 06/22/2009, -1/+1Welcome to the disco.

- CoD4, on 06/22/2009, -4/+4Protip: Move to Canada and collect welfare, their welfare system is way better
- BossKey, on 06/22/2009, -1/+1That just leaves room for them to think about the fact that they have no job in America because America is going through a recession, and it was America that brought them far from their homeland as part of a refugee resettlement program, which was necessary because America destroyed their homeland's social framework, which is why there were rival religious factions trying to blow them up, since that wasn't happening before.
So they are thinking about being stuck in the very country that set the events in motion that caused them to have to flee their homeland in the first place. - inactive, on 06/22/2009, -2/+2Evidenced based and peer reviewed learning materials. They spend 80% of their time learning about religion in Iraq and they wonder why they feel dumb.
- inactive, on 06/22/2009, -2/+2I'm kind of glad they can't just become a doctor or civil engineer without being certified by American standards. You want a job here then you have to go through a higher standard of education just like everyone else here.
- beetrixi, on 06/22/2009, -2/+2Xenophobic much?
- inactive, on 06/22/2009, -2/+1Immigration patterns would conflict with that, but I won't let facts get in the way. GOOOO MICHIGAN!!!
- settlesdown, on 06/22/2009, -4/+2At least they don't have to worry about some rival religious faction trying to blow their ***** up over here. Thats gotta be a load off of their minds.
- Elranzer, on 06/22/2009, -3/+1Blue States > Red States
- salstress, on 06/22/2009, -3/+1what's in everyone's self-interest is to have lower taxes and not be burdened by someone else taking your money and spending it however they want.
- inactive, on 06/22/2009, -6/+3You're living in fantasy land Corky. In a global economy there is no such thing as a "recession".
As the dollar tanks, the bigwigs are starting to buy up land and infrastructure at rock bottom prices, and people are having to sell them to them or face foreclosure. The rich are getting richer and the middle class are joining the bottom of the heap to become serfs and peons. The only other class left will be the newly created criminals and the over-serfs that are the police to enforce the master's rule.
And they'll probably call it something catchy... like a New World Order...or ROme
We're headed for "neo-manorialism", -- we'll be living as serfs or vassals on the vast estates of the rich.
Its over... - AirNike, on 06/22/2009, -4/+1***** THEM!
- user500, on 06/22/2009, -5/+1on the other hand there steeling jobs from folks like me so why should I stay under employed so they can get by? were is my assistance?
