- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29So let me get this straight. They are try to figure out "how" it was filmed and "how" they taunted him.
I can answer both: 1) They put a camera phone up and started recording, and 2) they said things to him from down below.
Can I have the money that was to go for "probing" this? - xutopia, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26Why probe into this? Shouldn't executions be public so we can see what's being done? Are we ashamed of something?
- sirloin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21well the taunting is ensured to cause unrest in teh sunni neighborhoods at a time when they are trying to unite iraq.
Killing him on the day of forgivness wasnt very bright especially since it is illegal under iraqi law.
But it may have been bright if you dont want peace and want to anger the sunnis to the maximum you can do and still pretend like you are not. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+23@beotch Actually Mexico seems to be invading right now and hasn't encountered much resistance : )
- DreKor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I am truly impressed that somebody managed to get an apple comment posted on a thread about Saddam's execution.
- Caiman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13I'm glad the video surfaced to be honest, if not to out the blood thirsty, revenge driven mob now in control of Iraq. This wasn't justice, it was revenge. It's disgusting, as is the death penalty. There _should_ be international controversy over this. Still, the inquiry should be into the iraqi government, rather than into how guards filmed their debacle of an execution.
- griz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10It can also be found on google video.
- SLP1111, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I really didn't expect that there would be so much footage leaked from camera phones of the execution itself, I mean baring that this is in Iraq, there should have been a lot more structure for something with so much media attention.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Not a Lucasarts digicam, no, but there were actual cameras in there that are way better quality than that choppy cell phone vid.
- SuperSloth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10"inflamed sectarian anger"
Yeah, because that's such a hard thing to do. - VeryBoredNow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I can't wait for the DVD with 3 hours of extra footage.
- STKD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Channel 4 news right this second. TWO out of the 14 people present had phone cameras. Both were officials, one high government.
Yep... no way we'll ever figure out who it was. Someone should call in the Hardly Boys. - totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9..So I can't even bring a camera phone into a concert here in SF, but some guy manages to smuggle one into Saddam Hussein's Hanging? In Iraq?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9They came out and said they were filming in HD. Can you imagine Bush not wanting a DVD of it? He was probably hoping to jerk-off to it, but Saddam was surprisingly cool as a cucumber even in the face of people with no respect for the situation.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7What do you mean how it was video taped?
It was planned to be taped by the networks to begin with. There were real cameras set up in the room to record and document it. I don't know how or why this is a surprise.
I'm still waiting for the high def version to be leaked instead of that ***** cell phone vid that's making the rounds. - griz, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11"....are they really that stupid"
Coming from a country where people shoot guns in the air to celebrate, I'd say, YEA, they are that stupid. - djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"Can you imagine Bush not wanting a DVD of it?"
It would make a great Father's Day give for Bush Sr. - SillyDigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I concur there were other cameras in the room including still cameras
- secleinteer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I don't see what's graphic about that video at all; you can hardly see anything, especially after he hangs.
- Caiman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Courts held to what standards?
- bhalash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I think the world is much better without Saddam, but the execution was a debacle. It was preformed with what I can only call unseemly haste - if you're going to execute a man, at least let him finish his prayer rather than abruptly pulling the lever while he's mid-sentence. That on it's own might offend the more religious of Iraqi's, at well as the day and week of his execution. It would have cost them nothing to lock him away somewhere for a week and *then* perform the execution.
All in all, he was the only composed person at the execution, what with all of the guards and witnesses jeering him and getting their picture taken with him. Fie, bravo to Saddam in death. - STKD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The leaked version already has directors commentary.
- deesnutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4For those (for some miracle) haven't seen it yet. Here the link on youtube ...

It's not for kids to see. It's pretty graphic. Also, may not be good to see it while working. But it's your call. - neoform, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4burndive:
Capital punishment has been shown to not deter crime at all. - washingtonydc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I find it distressing that the people taunting him were making pro-Moqtada Sadr comments. So we have one despot executed by supporters of a hopeful despot--now that's progress!
(Remember that the pentagon recently stated that Sadr's militia is the number one threat to US troops in Iraq--more so than even al Qaeda.) - kiljoi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@neoform
No, but it sure does cut down on repeat offenders. - thecontinental, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"Before we went into the room we had an agreement that no one should bring a mobile phone."
Uh....are they really that stupid not to check pockets for phones anyway? - d4rkn1ght, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3griz wrote:
"I'd put money on the fact that some of the camera phone videos have been dubbed over to add the "comments" in."
I don't think so. Although the quality of the video is very poor, you can tell that the video hasn't been altered. http://www.hanging.movie.to/
Not to mention that the cell video leak was released soon after the execution.
Also there is only one version of the cell video. If you have another one, then that’s the one altered. - persaltier, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I wonder if they'll hang whoever they find as being the leaker of the video?
+1 irony - Hoov, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You don't need a service to pull video clips off a phone, bluetooth or a USB cable are essentially all you need.
- zang74, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3How about just turning off the Apple topic in your topic settings, Naio?
- monergism, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I said nothing about right. I was simply stating the facts.
- chatty82, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1After he was hanged, the Islamic court decided Sadaam was "not guilty of genocide". Wouldn't it be better to decide on the guilt of the suspect BEFORE his execution ????
- neoform, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's a bit of a strange situation..
Yes we should see what we've done, but making public the killing is probably against the wishes of the family of the person being killed.. - Caiman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1'A court session'? A mockery of a trial was held, it was a circus. The fastest way they could find to get him hanged under the pretense of democratic process. Since when does 'those in power executing judgment' make their methods or decisions the right ones?
- FishPoisonCon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1are there links to the other vids? the camera phone version is kinda useless - and really doesn't prove anything... yeah all the elements are there, but... padding on the neck? not being hanged in plain sight? and ive heard stuff about his eyes being open after (which is totally plausible, i know). seems like people would want to see him swinging around a bit before they celebrate...
- burndive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"but making public the killing is probably against the wishes of the family of the person being killed"
Gee, what a dilemma. We might offend someone by pointing out their irresponsible actions. Maybe this way families will think twice before raising people entirely devoid of morality and unleashing them on society. The family *should* be ashamed. - SilentSpyder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1*here
- griz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Does it come up with the "in Hi-Definition where available" tagline?
- monergism, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Fanboys + AdSense + Page Traffic = Revenue for Digg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4A rush execution done under cover of darkness, with jeering onlookers reflects well on the Iraq "government". Saddam version 2.0 at the helm.
- Hoov, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1So go to Netscape? Because really, who the hell cares that an Apple story is on the front page?
If you digg (lol get it?) into the subcategories or even look at upcoming stories you can get everything without a "bias". - monergism, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Find me a standard. A court session was held. Those in power executed judgment.
- ZeroTonight, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Sounds super hard...I think i'm getting a clue...
- monergism, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3There was taunting? I didn't hear anything reported.
I have to wonder if the leak wasn't authorized.
I doubt it'd be that hard to locate the offender. Most of the time cell phones have to upload the video to a service.
One less bad guy isn't a bad thing. - griz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2You seriously think there was a Hi Def camera in there?
- cranium, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2@neoform
No it hasn't.
By the way, have you heard about Singapore's out-of-control drug problem? - Absinthminded64, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Bush is still wondering why Iraq's sectairies are so mad at each other. Prolly thinks if Iraq had it's own sectary day that everyone would be happy.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5@griz, At least they can have automatic weapons, if Mexico invades the USA you will have to use BB guns.
- graphmac1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1He deserves everything that's coming to him...!
