- GeorgeStone2, on 07/07/2009, -6/+25I don't think that's how democracy works.
- neilschelly, on 07/07/2009, -1/+15That's not how a free society works. A democracy just means that majority rules (approximately) and the majority of those in any democracy have no idea what freedom is or how to allow others to persue it.
- GeorgeStone2, on 07/07/2009, -0/+13Islan? The lion?
- domnu, on 07/07/2009, -0/+13Thought Policing != Freedom
Democracy is just mob rule, it doesn't guarantee freedom. - asgardshill, on 07/07/2009, -0/+10This is exactly why the Brits carved up William Wallace like a holiday roast then scattered his remains in four separate corners of the kingdom. No grave, no rallying point for sympathizers.
- doctechnical, on 07/07/2009, -4/+13Too many people pissing on it?
- Navicerts, on 07/07/2009, -0/+8Well *****, if they are going to ban visits to it why not just take it down?
- trevor98, on 07/07/2009, -4/+12Notice it says "organized visits" not "personal visits". That difference is significant. Buried as inaccurate for the overly simplistic headline.
- enantiodromia, on 07/07/2009, -4/+12It's because he's still alive!!!
ANOTHER LIZARD MAN CONSPIRACY EXPOSED! - warsongs7, on 07/07/2009, -0/+8Becuase its not a ***** democracy. Its a republic. The rights of the minority need protection as well.
- DirtyVicar, on 07/07/2009, -0/+7That'll definitely smooth things over with the current regime's opposition.
- medfreak, on 07/07/2009, -6/+12Why? Europe jails holocaust deniers. Somethings are banned even in democracies.
- crossmr, on 07/07/2009, -1/+6"The executions followed an assassination attempt against him in 1982 in Dujail, north of the capital, Baghdad."
We need to talk about our definition of the word follow... I think 24 years is beyond the limit of follow.. I mean *****..did anyone know that World War 2 followed the death of jesus..just think about that.. - altgeeky1, on 07/07/2009, -0/+5This is very true. Democracy is great, but it is also 2 wolves and 1 sheep voting on tonight's dinner...
- spoon088, on 07/07/2009, -2/+6Lol democracy.
- Ghostalker, on 07/07/2009, -2/+5Great idea, delete him from history... works out great from what we've seen in the past.
I was kinda startled as a kid when I found out we had memorials and statues to Confederate generals, but it let's the rest of us learn how history happened so we don't end up repeating it. - inactive, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3They are heavily religious, so rationality is not their strong suit.
- fightingforair, on 07/07/2009, -1/+4You can't ignore nor ban history. Any rational person should know that.
- daPhoenix, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3No, not really - I can go to the street, wearing a Nazi uniform and waving a swastika flag and deny holocaust all I want.
Police won't do jack (and why would they?) and people may look at me a little oddly but that's it. - appleseed1234, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3Are you saying we don't have the right to dismiss flame-bait?
- lemur, on 07/07/2009, -0/+2It is democratic. Saddam Hussein was an evil tyrant and murder to the majority of Iraq's population. The majority don't want this sort of thing going on, so here you have a democratic ruling based on majority rule.
- lemur, on 07/07/2009, -0/+2I don't really see the point in banning this sort of thing, but I can see why they would. This is like how Germany bans so many things Nazi and Hitler-related.
If they didn't want people visiting his grave, why make one in the first place? They could have buried him someplace secret or let vulture eat him. - altgeeky1, on 07/07/2009, -3/+5How long will you piss on the troops who died, when you lied?
- altgeeky1, on 07/07/2009, -0/+2Actually, the British did that because they are polite barbarians who wear very tight pants.
- umitseric, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1It is their choice, but we have a problem the second they start voicing these false beliefs and affecting/influencing others
- JohnnySoftware, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1Oh, okay. I'll note that for future reference. I'll just write down "god or country".
- JohnnySoftware, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1Hitler was dead by his own hand when the allies reached his bunker. Did they do something special with the body of Hitler afterward?
- inactive, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1thats the civilized way of doing it
unlike those savages - MonkeyNews, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1I'm surprised he is buried in such a respectable manner considering the circumstances. Even in death he has a lavish mausoleum.
- JohnnySoftware, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1Yeah, I'm sure that is you see Confederate flags displayed in southern states too.
*laughs nervously* - TheWix, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1You are correct. There were heroes on both sides as well as scoundrels. But in reference to your comment, "South won the war the North wrote all of the books." I am not sure if you are suggesting they really did win the war or what but, have you not heard the sayings "Won the battle lost the war." and "History is written by the victor" (Or something like that)?
It doesn't matter how many battles you win if you lose the war. - Zyem, on 07/07/2009, -1/+2should we treat him like we treated Hitler
- JohnnySoftware, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1When people started sending school children to make pilgrimages to it the other people got nervous. One group revered him. The other group reviled him. Apparently, they have not changed their respective estimations of him.
On the flip side, it may have been done for the security of the school children. Someone may have had grave concern that in the back and forth attacks/killings between sects there, someone might respond to an incident where lots of of Shiites get killed by killing a large group of Sunni children visiting the shrine, despite any security measures that might be in place.
Given mass killings that have occurred there and other countries in similar climate that is more than plausible concern. It probably will not be this way forever. - Satualanus69, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1
Did it ever occur to you that maybe friends were fighting friends and brother against brother and that
every single one of those Generals and other ranked officers went to school together as best friends? Oh thats right you must think the civil war started because of the south being racist and having slaves unfortunately there was a lot more to it than that. Before you start blasting Robert E Lee having a statue or memorial remember he was asked to lead the Union Army before it started but he couldn't turn his guns on his home. whether a blue or grey uniform every soldier that fell fought pry the worst war we have ever engaged in. but the real quencher if you really look at the bloodiest battles we all know who one them..................haven't you ever heard the term the "South won the war the North wrote all of the books" - cherrysweet00, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1I wonder if they'd have banned Michael Jackson or made an exception.
- JohnnySoftware, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1The KKK history of "peaceably assembling" is pretty poor.
- inactive, on 07/07/2009, -1/+2Yeah, they shoulda reduced his despicable remains to ashes and flushed portions of it down various toilets in Iraq. That way people don't have to travel so far to piss on his grave.
- JohnnySoftware, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1ROFL. Uh, no. That was Saudi Arabia where the citizens used to get 20k per year - back in the 1990s.
These days the annual stipend for Saudi citizens has dropped to only a quarter of that amount. Much of the country is very poor.
If Iran gives all of its citizens a sum of money each year, this is the first I have heard of it.
I think I read that Iran or Iraq gave its Iran-Iraq war veterans a sum of money each year. As kind of a retirement. A bunch were very badly injured for life. There is a town that many of them live in, I read somewhere. - inactive, on 07/07/2009, -1/+2So? Keep them in the history books. Doesn't mean we have to honor their treason with memorials.
- inactive, on 07/24/2009, -0/+0@nigradamus
If your speaking of the USA
Its the first amendment, learn it. Even if they complained, you still got the right to free expression in this country the last time i checked. The right to agree/disagree, even if you hate it. - BotchaMcCoola, on 07/07/2009, -1/+1That should be good for our war stocks down the road. Bend over and enjoy it taxpayers/China borrowers.
- magic6435, on 07/07/2009, -2/+2ahhhhh diggwut... they were lied to and then did take part in an illegal/immoral/genocidal war. both parts are true. I wish they had not died from being lied to and i wish they did not carry out some of the obvious ***** which they participated in.
Its like children who are murders. you feel bad for some of them because they were beaten and abused at home which turned them into the horrible monsters they are but you also are like "holy ***** that kid killed 3 people that's unacceptable" - emperorfurkan, on 08/21/2009, -0/+0lol ...
- nigradamus, on 07/07/2009, -0/+0@daPhoenix
If someone complains, you will be arrested. - emperorfurkan, on 08/21/2009, -0/+0i never ever read or heard about the " burial of hitler body " or i think he might be buried up in the mass grave of nazi's dead soldiers , because i read this stuff that if you make a dictator's grave it means that you are giving him the status in the society ... " so i think whatever is done with his body is quite done right , no trace of that old racist .
whereas this man , called saddam , sunni muslim love him more than their father . lol NO offence lol - Onlinespot, on 07/07/2009, -0/+0I don't understand the sense in banning it.
- Satualanus69, on 07/08/2009, -0/+0your right im just bustn balls lol
- goddardc, on 07/08/2009, -0/+0Dugg for good Al Jazeera journalism
I never thought I would say this but their reporting is so much better than Sky News, CNN (obviously), Fox (obviously), even BBC News. Especially when all these channels give rubbish Michael Jackson updates 24/7, ommitting important worldwide updates. MJ was a legend and a musical genious, but I hate how these channels choose sensationalist garbage over real worldwide incidents
For UK Sky viewers: try channel 514. You will be surprised at the quality of the reporting. I find myself turning to it more and more. -
