Iran and Israel Have the U.S. Over a Barrel
moonofalabama.org — High oil prices threaten to push the U.S. from a credit crunch induced recession into a depression. The only way to avoid this is for the White House to take the war premium out of the oil price, hence negotiations with Iran. Was this the result of economic 'sanctions' Iran put onto the U.S.? Yes. Iran deliberately drove up oil prices.

- flogistan, on 07/18/2008, -1/+3Does anyone else think this article gets it wrong on purpose? The threats from both bush, and israel cause the speculation, thus making bush's friends in the oil industry more wealthy. The higher price of oil that is set off by the threats from the U.S. and Israel causes a greater willingness of the american people to agree to an attack due to desperation at the artificially high, and artificially driven up cost of fuel. The saudis themselves laugh at the price of oil because it is artificially high and does not reflect supply and demand. Israel just happens to uncover a "plot" to assassinate bush today? They are working together toward the same end. They created the problem, and will offer the solution. The only thing true about this article is that Benny Morris wants to exterminate millions of persians for no reason. This article is pure *****.
- Kizilbash, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2Just because the high oil price is good for the Saudis and the Halliburton war profiteers doesn't mean it is good for the US. The US economy is pretty fragile right now and the Iranians are very much aware of it.
- flogistan, on 07/19/2008, -1/+1The supply is there and available and opec knows it and has said it. Don't tell me you're going to go for this again when they tell you the terrrists crashed our economy when it was years of irresponsible banking practices. You can't get people to understand how bold the lies are.
- Kizilbash, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2I'm not saying that at all. The US economy being in the dumps is down to what you say. The point of this article though is that the Iranians are using the fragility of the US economy to their advantage (and who could blame them).
- flogistan, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1You could be right, I'd have to see their crude output in comparison to the last ten years. I honestly don't believe they want any of this, and that we're the ones trying to push them into a corner. You could be right, they could fall for it and do something stupid, but what does that get them? I think Israel stands to benefit more than anyone. It makes no sense for the other two parties.

- Kizilbash, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1I don't think the Iranians want war, they just want to show the US government what the consequences would be.
