- Mithradates, on 07/09/2009, -0/+34Ei dowlete kudeta, estefa, estefa! (Coup government, resign, resign!) That's the chant being heard at today's demonstrations. The uprising against the illegitimate government is nowhere close to subsiding.
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -3/+36 Iran what? What Continent is that on again?
Sorry. I couldn't hear you over the Michael Jackson coverage. - krusade, on 07/09/2009, -2/+27Come on, people, digg this story. There's "Monkeys Recognize Poor Grammar" on the front page, while history is being made in Iran. It's ridiculous.
- sockpuppets, on 07/09/2009, -3/+26But Michael Jackson died, ok? He made Thriller.
Thriller. - mortezart, on 07/09/2009, -2/+20Excellent Reporting Nico! My friends in Iran are saying the security forces are preventing people to reach Engheleab Sq.
Also:
Listen to this misinformation by well respected PBS NewsHour, listen toward 2/3 toward the end.
NewsHour with Jim Lehrer claims that Iran has released all the prisoners who were arrested during the demonstrations (total of 1000)
This news was released by the Iranian government!
http://www-tc.pbs.org/newshour/rss/media/2009/07/0 ... - hydroponik, on 07/09/2009, -2/+19We need this back in the media, but unfortuantely they're more concerned with where MJ's body is going to be buried atm. Such a shame.
- kingp, on 07/09/2009, -0/+14All of you brave people in Iran have my support. I know this is about as much good as I can do, from here, but I support you.
- amorrise, on 07/09/2009, -3/+16Finally, news from abroad without the usual U.S. spin
- jro21991, on 07/09/2009, -1/+13go freedom train go
- TidusX, on 07/09/2009, -4/+13It finally made it on the front page, now lets get it in the "Top In All Topics" section.
Show your support by digging this article please! - krusade, on 07/09/2009, -1/+8Dude, will you stop with this ignorant *****? Check the recent history of that country before you make uninformed statements like this. The young people (70% of iranians are under 30) don't want any theocracy, it's not about Ahmadinejad anymore, they want the ayatolah removed from power. It's just not easy fighting a theocracy that has surrounded itself with hundreds of thousands of armed brainwashed elite forces. They risk their life going on the streets to make their voice heard. But I guess that's nothing to you. It's so much easier to be an armchair cynic.
- SaveJake, on 07/09/2009, -0/+7Valid point.....Have you listened to the chants in the streets?
Or on their rooftops??? - Anomaly100, on 07/09/2009, -0/+6Pardon me, but I've been using my computer, every possible chance I get to find any information to send via Twitter. That said, many people (many!) are doing the same. Michael Jackson? If he's so wonderful, he would have wanted the attention to be on the "protesters" not himself. He's not my concern, the Iranians are. We have only so much information to send. We are in the dark too, but finding out as much as possible.
I just read another one of your comments. Let me say this, you are an ignorant and selfish ass. Good luck with that. - bigplrbear, on 07/09/2009, -1/+7Why is it that the "liberals" are the only ones actually covering the iran "election"?
- L0NER, on 07/09/2009, -1/+6Someone should send Nico to Iran. I want to see his feet on the ground reporting.
- SaveJake, on 07/09/2009, -0/+5We've had a lot of inaccurate reports on the news. I think the US is trying to walk a fine line here...BUT what is important is that the people of these United States care about the people of Iran and we are paying attention.
Although, there is no excuse for networks that give no coverage to Iran.
CNN is trying their best and Nico just rocks! - sockpuppets, on 07/09/2009, -0/+4No, it's Digg.
- steveannie, on 07/09/2009, -1/+5Continued great Iran coverage from Nico Pitney. Thanks!
- CaptDD, on 07/10/2009, -0/+4Every person that talks about MJ should ask if he died from a broken heart because of Iran's treatment of it's people!
+
Iran is showing itself as being very similar to China except they are doing it under the name of Religion instead of ideology... the result is the same; limiting of personal freedom, not for the people but to CONTINUE to maintain those in power!
+
Iranian's know their election votes were ripped off and now even more troubling, their religious leaders are shown as nothing more than Political "Dups" supporting the farce! You can tell lies but you cannot expect folks to believe them when they already know the truth!
Iran is showing the World it's true colors now and they are not Green! - rdoger6424, on 07/09/2009, -1/+5Go back to Michael.
- blake711, on 07/09/2009, -1/+4Tell Iran to just "BEAT IT"
- Anomaly100, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3I read that somewhere too. The amount of misinformation is astounding. I've found a few Twitterer's that were trying to bring the protesters down through bad information. Some were Pro-Ahmadinejad people, pretending to be pro-Mousavi.
- WoollyMittens, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3I'm afraid their government will win this war of attrition through brute force and unimaginable cruelty.
- SaveJake, on 07/09/2009, -1/+4tmcal...it's time to catch up.
First of all, freedom does not mean they are free to want what you want them to be...or not to be....
It is their right to choose their own government. Unless you are living there, not your concern.
"The fact that they voted...." Did you really mean to say that out loud???
Secondly, you have missed a lot of the 'chants' recently. Much more than God Is Great.
Thirdly, thanks for the laugh. Your intelligence shines through your art of communication. Such a broad use of the english language! - poptic, on 07/09/2009, -1/+3great, now you've got me interested in these gammar monkeys!
- Mujokan, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2http://digg.com/general_sciences/Monkeys_Recognize ...
- McBoom, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2I feel bad for MJ's family, I really do. But that doesn't mean people should forget the rest of the world suddenly. The Iranian people still need support. People are being driven into the ground and having their rights stripped away, its not a joke. The least anyone could do is spread this story, let people know.
While the U.S. is understandably careful with what they do due to previous relations, that doesn't mean we can't help. - Anomaly100, on 07/09/2009, -1/+2*****' comments by BobDie!
There, I fixed it for ya'. No need to thank me. - SaveJake, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1Then don't waste your time coming here...
STOP spamming the thread.
- Loki101, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1Conservatives only care about foreigners when they get to bomb them.
- lindenwold, on 07/09/2009, -1/+2does anyone have a link to the monkey article?
sounds awesome - lindenwold, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1awesome, thanks.
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -1/+2krusade, you're full of *****.
Read a little history on the prior revolution before you open your mouth. The American left was optimistic because the youth back then were liberal and democratic. Yet they still were attached to their Islamic roots. Just like the youth of today. Once they installed their theocracy, the American left had to face the hard reality that they WERE DEAD ***** WRONG. They were 100% certain Iran would turn into a democratic utopia in the middle east. This whole democracy thing isn't new. You act like you were born yesterday.
"they want the ayatolah removed from power."
No they don't you stupid *****. That's not what the vote was about and it's not what the people want AT ALL. The fact that they voted and legitimized Khamenei's power is proof they want no such thing. They want an honest theocracy that has a democratic element. They aren't shouting "give me liberty or give me death" they are shouting "God is Great". - Drone13, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1Thanks Nico!
- WatIsNotTaknYet, on 07/10/2009, -0/+0^^^It actually sucks. I have lost touch on some of the things going on in Iran just because of all this MJ fiasco, and the total memory-destruction created by the media. I used to come to digg.com for info on the Iranian revolution, but alas, even digg had succumb to the memory-destruction (not all diggers, but most). I'd see fewer and fewer Iran related stories and soon I couldn't find any stories. I'm glad this story is up, and I will definitely be digging it. To bring this story back into the attention of the digger community.
PS: Do you guys think the gov't has actually created memory-destruction strobe lights like in MIB? What if they place that ***** between commercials...you know, because you believe anything after you get your memory erased. Oops, gotta place that bong down for a sec. - monodelasno, on 07/09/2009, -2/+0I'm ignorant and selfish because I don't give a ***** about a nation that's basically given us the finger for 30+ years?
Then again, you're obviously not smart enough to recognize sarcasm. - yikesidigg, on 07/09/2009, -7/+3It's not that the Iranian election is "old news." The lack of interest may be because their president doesn't mean anything. They should be overthrowing the Ayatollah if they want true freedom.
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -6/+2But they don't want freedom. They want an honest theocracy. Which people on digg are too stupid to realize. Once they get their new theocracy in place they will just go right back to putting teenage women to death for trivial acts.
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -7/+2Michael Jackson is not dead yet...? Ohhh...I get it.
~Good luck guys...Love you. - monodelasno, on 07/09/2009, -6/+1No offense, but this is one US citizen who quite honestly could give a rat ***** about Iran.
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -7/+2Now think about your dad. What's your dad like? I wanna meet that dad!
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -10/+3Get back to me when the people of Iran no longer want a government based on Islam.
Otherwise, I don't give a damn. You pathetic armchair revolutionaries want to see blood and death and don't seem to care that there is no foundation for real change there. - monodelasno, on 07/09/2009, -8/+1Sorry, the Iranian uprising is yesterdays news. Didn't you hear, Michael Jackson died.
- BobDle, on 07/09/2009, -17/+4***** huffpost articles!
- irvin666, on 07/09/2009, -17/+2The Iran election is still going on?
OLD.
I removed my green icon a long time ago. It was fun pretending to care about the Iranian people while it lasted.
