Interpol: Images of 'paedophile' released - "Mr. Swirl"

news.bbc.co.uk — Interpol has publicly released images from the internet of a man it suspects of sexually abusing young boys. The international police agency is launching the worldwide appeal because two years of investigations have failed to identify the man.

      Those pictures were most likely from a series of photos which he took while engaged with minors(I guess that's the nicest way I can describe it). I'm sure there is no doubt as to the guilt of the man in those pics. As for WHO the man is, that's another story altogether.

        In a strange and unexpected twist, actor Brent Spiner (59), known for playing Commander Data on the Star Trek: The Next Generation series was shot in his Los Angeles home yesterday afternoon. The shooting was said to have been inspired by a user of popular social bookmarking web site, Digg.com. After the link to a BBC article regarding an unknown pedophile whose photos have been released on the web to aid in locating him, user "Lungsh0t" noted a similarity in appearance to the character Commander Data.

        While the comment was made in jest, police believe that more than one frustrated Digg reader was prompted out of a parent's basement into action. Mr. Spiner survived the attack owing to what ballistics indicate to be poor aim caused by the multiple shooter's spindly, wiry arms and weak wrists. Mr. Spiner is doing well and reportedly only suffered minor scrapes. He is quoted as saying, "It was very surreal. All of the boys looked a lot like commander Data. Pale and yellow eyed. Only much more emaciated. To be honest, I wasn't sure what was happening, but their multiple cries of 'I'll show them who lives in his mom's basement' made the situation all the more disturbing. That and the pungent smell of Cheetos(tm) and Doritos(tm)".

        The group of fifty young men have all been located and an investigation is pending.

    Note "Mental Disorder" so imho, treating these people as criminals is a mistake, should we round up all the schizos too, in case they kill or harm anyone? I do believe these people should be brought to justice and given proper treatment for their disorder but not "shot in the face" to make us feel better about the problem.

Does being under the influence of an aberrant brain chemistry or topograhy thus remove responsibility for any crime?

      This guy got what he wanted - at the expense of innocent children with no recourse. I am truly, terribly sorry that he is malignly influenced by a mental disorder.

To want to have sex with a female who has already entered puberty is natural but the law would label any one having sex with anyone under 18. What is equally disturbing though is the fact that we can charge people locally for activities done on other countries even though local laws have not been violated. If I go to Japan and have sex with a geisha (and don't tell me they are all 18) why am I not guilty of the same crime? How long before we start arresting Americans for smoking pot in Amsterdam? How long before American police are going into Tijuana to arrest teens drinking there? The guy did his thing in Southeast Asia so let them handle him. Oh wait. Those older Asian cultures teach their children about sex at a very young age. In those cultures you are expected to perform well before you are even offered for marriage. He hasn't broken any local laws. Just the laws of countries thousands of miles away who think they can reach into other cultures and enforce their laws there.

        Yes the dude is messed up. Yes the dude needs to go to jail. But no, we do not have the right to arrest someone for doing something that is culturally accepted there. There are no pedophiles in China or Southeast Asia and it's not because the police go around executing them. Look up traditional Chinese sexual culture for the answer. By all means arrest the guy. But either get the local police in Southeast Asia to do it (they won't) or catch him doing something in the west. Do it right.

Pedophilia is a mental disorder, but that in no way absolves pedophiles from the responsibility of acting on their fantasies with an actual child, anymore than depression is an excuse for beating your wife. There are plenty of pedophiles (creepy as it is) that are out there, not acting on their urges, just like there are plenty of sociopaths who aren't killers... just lawyers.
