breitbart.com — Americans would find it harder to part with their mobile phones than the Internet, television, or landline telephones, according to a survey released Wednesday.

- ephramauslander, on 03/06/2008, -0/+2I like to think that it is because, despite all the advances in technology, there is nothing like hearing another human voice. Realistically, it's probably a feature of cell phones being mobile. They are ubiquitous, although the Internet isn't yet ubiquitous since not all cell phones have Internet access and because television is primarily an entertainment system, not a vital way to communicate with other people. Do I need to even mention why I think landline phones didn't top the list? However, I do miss the feel of the old rotary phones.
- daveonium, on 03/06/2008, -0/+1I would have no problem parting with the phone part, its the text and mobile email i need.
- andymac1978, on 03/06/2008, -0/+1Until mobile browsers are as easy to use and capable of what can be done on a computer (which I've heard over and over should be soon), I have to vote for the Internet.
- jefflouella, on 03/06/2008, -0/+1I use my iPhone as my computer and internet. I think I use data 100 to 1 over phone.
- sunnyinphilly, on 03/06/2008, -0/+0Definitely computer.
- bittermonk, on 03/06/2008, -0/+0It's hard to imagine giving up the blackberry or the high speed at home. I suppose if I had to give one up I could always surf at the office more. But the mobile has become my primary phone (5 years... I don't even have a land line anymore), news reader (6 months) and chat platform (about 4 months now... I use AIM, YIM, Jabber and BB Messenger). I think the only thing it couldn't replace (with existing technology) would be hunting through photos for me. I'm too in love with hi-res...
- JerZGeo, on 03/06/2008, -0/+0silly to compare a device to a medium... apples and oranges
Its like saying:
Television Set or Cable
Radio Tuner or FM Stations
I'll take the Internet (on multiple devices) - DaManDOH, on 03/06/2008, -0/+1I'd give up audio wireless communication in a heartbeat to preserve data communication.
It does seem like a false choice, however.
