A few months back, he was working in one of the non-air conditioned dorms, and he passed out from heat exhaustion. It was the inmates that called in the medical emergency. When backup and the med staff got there, the inmates had my dad's head propped up and were putting cool towels on his head and neck. When he came back to work a couple weeks later, more inmates asked him how he was doing than his fellow guards.

And they like peace and quiet in their home as much as anyone else. But my experience was in a prison, I can't speak to what might happen in the County lockup.

The "knee-jerk" reaction of these men was to defend another human being. That would seem pretty normal under any other circumstance, but for some reason people seem to assume that anyone in jail is a sociopath.
