- flightvector, on 10/12/2007, -4/+44Inaccurate story! This is not even a confirmed build and it is STILL 436 ft shorter than the Burj Dubai that Samsung will complete by 2008.
- ThugEsquire, on 10/12/2007, -6/+35Only the League of Awesomeness could devise such a genius plan.
- johnjreiser, on 10/12/2007, -5/+31Voting down because of over enthusiastic, phallic-obsessive behavior.
- tk4two1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Man that is going to be one HUGE tech support call center.
- smedrick, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13"Voting down because of over enthusiastic, phallic-obsessive behavior."
Voting up because that made me spit coffee on my monitor. - stomicron, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Wow--big, huge, *and* tall! All three at the same time! Amazing!
No digg.
PS "huger" is not a word. - Daisuke, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11http://digg.com/general_sciences/World_s_Tallest_Tower_To_Be_Completed_in_2008
"The Burj Dubai tower will stand 800 metres tall - just 5 metres shy of half a mile - once completed in 2008."
I don't think there are many rumors at this point. Sounds pretty open and shut to me. - shefftim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Not another use of AWESOME!!!!! Nnnnooooooooooo
- brainache, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9@weirdone
By the way, Dubai isn't actually a country. Its an emirate, similar to a state in the US or a Land in Germany. Its a part of the UAE. - Butros, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I concur, these grand plans come about all the time and never get realized. Unless it's Dubai, those crazy bastards can build anything.
- cwcheang, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9the current record holder is NOT the Petronas Twin Tower. It's the Taipei 101. And it certainly isn't going to be the tallest either @ 677 metres high.. Al Burj and Burj Dubai are both a lot higher... and they're confirmed... constructions are already well under way..
and this indian building doesn't look quite as good as.... anything.. - roastedbagel, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Your story is innacurate, get over it. Also your excessive use of exclamation marks (!) is quite obnoxious. This is Digg, not AIM
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -14/+19India is the world's next economic and political superpower. A tall building by them is only inevitable
http://www.time.com/time/covers/0,16641,20060626,00.html - ryanknapper, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7How can it break future records? At any rate, I just drew plans for a building which goes in to space. It's the hugerest!
- leftfoot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Settle down a little bit, it's just a damn building.
- officecamel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7UAE wins, sorry India.
No Digg. - Raz0rEdge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6With all the corruption rampant in India, lack of building code and standards, I doubt a structure like this will ever get bult. And, in the off chance, it does get built, it will be a nightmare waiting to fall down.
- visarya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4fake new ...first of all the site name is indiatoday.com.AU
- oblongmouth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4hugererer is actually what he was after, tsk.
- kkapoor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5For those ignorant individuals making ridiculous comments like these. Only 13% of Indians are Muslim. Additionally India has been subject to Islamic terrorism far longer then we in the West have.
- code_of_life, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3lol, article is a prank.
Even if construction does start, either they will run out of money, the government will change, or corruption will have its toll.
It will never be completed. - BWhaler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is going absolutely nowhere.
As I business man in India, I will be the first person to say we can't get consistent power, sewer, and water to towns where the tallest buildings are 8 stories. (And these are generally hotels and company built office buildings which build their own generators and water tanks and purifiers.)
Our country is simply not at that stage of development yet. - mrjain, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5have you been to Madya Pradesh? good luck trying to cool something like that, my relatives are from there and they can't seem to cool a single 100 sq foot room, b/c the electricity is always going out.
- rebrad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Outsourcing works for some at least.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I love the triumphant tone of the articles on this. "India will soon be a home to the world's tallest building."
Soon? This kind of building, if approved (which it won't be), would take 40 years to build (it won't be built). Still, that doesn't stop the newspapers from saying stuff like "The World's tallest building -
no longer Malaysia but in India." Uh, not so fast.
The whole of India has only 21 tall buildings -- the tallest of which is only 46 stories.
Why do India and China constantly take credit for achievements they haven't achieved yet? - fvjohnson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Here's a thought... use some of the billions it will take to construct that building and feed the 80% of the country that's still in poverty! Or better yet, since India has the largest population of HIV positive people... maybe use some of the money to help those folks out. My guess is, the poor and HIV positive won't have any office space in this building.
- MichelKuik, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7wow..that's one ugly building!
- GoodOlClint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3http://www.mumbai-central.com/misc/tallest.html
"This was posted on the 'nukkad' mailing list on June 14, 2000 alongwith the 2 images below. "
Veeeeery old
Clint - interiot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5There are lots of planned buildings, some of them taller than this one.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Burj
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buenos_Aires_Forum
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madinat_al-Hareer
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burj_Dubai - upsilonh24, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It's an absolutely horrible building.
- Phaid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Inaccurate, no digg. It was "proposed" by the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in 1998. There is no real proposal of any kind to actually build this structure, it is just a fanatic's pipe dream.
- Bega, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2it reminds me of the jedi temple from star wars. hehe. Definitely gonna have to go back to see this.
edit: too bad it's not happening - cerisaac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Can never over do Hugeness! This thing is sure going to be HUGE!
- drenei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2agreed.
and also... would the developement/evolution of the human race (society/science/technology/spirituality/whatever) speed along a bit faster if there were less people with this strange tendency (not just the indians in this situation) to focus/talk about/be proud of things that don't seem to do much... ie the size of a building?
off topic... so bury me... but i am curious about what would happen on a large scale if competition was redefined from 'being better than every other encountered' to 'being better than you were before using (if necessary) the other as a guide'.
meh... and so life goes on - Ericular, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Way, way too much inaccurate fanaticism and bad grammar. How in the world does this stuff make it to the front page? I wish diggers would be a little more discerning for the betterment of the site.
- h2d2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4About 65% of Indian make less than $2 a day*. Sure some are doing great with outsourcing money, but India needs to pay more attention to improve the quality of living of it's masses before dreaming about superlatives. That's the problem with third world countries, they are more interested in the "hugest", tallest, longest, biggest than in anything else, especially the masses.
(*) http://www.indiadaily.org/entry/700-million-earning-2-a-day-millionaires-increasing-20-this-is-india/ - mayurpatil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2All rooms booked in da building by top most politicians
This building will atleast take more 10yrs by then ohters may have reached da SKY - adrianguru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think those Indians are over compensating for something.
- mousky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Agreed. This a country where it is huge task to ship raw materials from one area to another. They don't even have decent roads in India, so how do they expect to ship the raw materials for a building like this. Digg has gone to the dogs.
- stomicron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Who? Indians? What the hell are you talking about?
- cwcheang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I am not sure if Al Burj is confirmed.. my bad..
but digg's comment system sucks. comments are not editable for 3 min. only 1. and there's always that Error Updating Your Comment thing.. gosh i NEED time to edit. Stop the countdown as soon as i click Edit! - yonbeastie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This reminds me of that crazy pyramid building in North Korea... they are equally ugly!
- johnjreiser, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6I agree. There's a big difference between a concept and something that's already under construction.
And why the center of India? What's near there to support this thing? Are they planning a brand new city or is this simply conjecture? - stomicron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Blame Freud.
- Xenotoxin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Wow, I wonder if they are going to outsource it?
- samy293, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Yeah, God will come and correct all the faults India has - dream about it!
- deepsub, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@poster
Your article summary sounds... silly. - spotty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21. The Twin Tower arent around anymore, so that graphical display is innaccuarte
2. The Paradise towers look shorter than the sears tower. - startrek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree with stomicron. I want proof. and not some person bouncing off of the walls just because of some page on the internet
- jrbrewin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4the solar turbine being built in austrailia is also taler, at around 1km tall, and 2.5km base is larger, and far more useful.
