- varun1s, on 07/18/2009, -9/+61When Al-Qaida attacked America, America gave the Taliban govt ultimatum to stop harboring them or risk invasion.
When terrorists attack India, America tells India to make up with the government that provides them logistical/moral support. - pdileepa, on 07/19/2009, -2/+29India doesn't receive much aid from the US (and definitely not in the 20 - 50 billion range). But Pakistan does and they use that money for defense purposes against India.
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Pakistan-used-U ... - iizh, on 07/19/2009, -17/+38Wow. It's incredible how condescending the U.S. is. The Indians get terrorist attack after terrorist attack from Pakistan. The one in Nov 26 last year was one of the worst. India exercised restraint and asked Pakistan to curb the terrorism emanating from within its borders. Pakistan makes some superficial moves like arresting a few individuals in order to stem the enormous amount of criticism its facing.
Then when things had cooled down and everyone outside India and Pakistan had forgotten, Pakistan RELEASES Hafiz Saeed (one of the masterminds) in June 2009. India is outraged, but the U.S. patronizingly tells them to get along with Pakistan. As if they're little children fighting over nothing.
Now the U.S. is trying to get India to withdraw troops from its borders with Pakistan so that Pakistan will do the same, which will free them up to help out in the U.S. war on the Afghan front. Small problem: India put those troops there to fight cross border infiltration of terrorists from Pakistan. If those troops were removed, the terrorists would get through and attack Indian civilians.
Let me summarize: the U.S. is okay with Indian civilians dying for the sake of fixing the American *****-up in Afghanistan.
***** you, America. Stop ***** up other parts of the world. - damack, on 07/18/2009, -7/+26They shouldn't fear what the US thinks they should fear what kind of situations it could lead to in the future if two nuclear nations don't get along.
There is a lot at stake in this situation it shouldn't be taken lightly. - HappyScrappy, on 07/19/2009, -3/+18Every country has to act in their own interests. So yeah, the US bombed Afghanistan. In this case, it's clear the US feels that the US has more to gain if India and the current Pakistani government get along. And I can see why, the US feels it can deal with the current Pakistani government and try to get them to stand up to the Islamists. If this government falls, it's likely the next government of Pakistan will be even more in league with the Islamists. This isn't in the US' interests (or for that matter in India's).
But hey, maybe India says that while the US is playing the long game, India has to deal with the fact that right now there are groups in Pakistan sending terrorists into India and the government isn't stopping them.
The US has its goals, India has its own. Maybe India just has to understand what the US is going pressure them but simply not give into the pressure. India never signed the nuclear non-proliferation treaty despite US pressure for decades, so it's clear India knows how to handle pressure. - badqat, on 07/18/2009, -9/+24The United States has no business meddling in the affairs of either nation.
- deathstryk, on 07/19/2009, -2/+16US should mend ties with N. Korea.
- Darkelement878, on 07/19/2009, -2/+13Good to know India's media is just as sensationalist as ours. "Cold wind from Washington" lol...
- brainboy7777, on 07/19/2009, -1/+11India's war with Pakistan is a religious war. It goes back over 50 years. India was seperated into pakistan, afganistan, and india. The Pakis were mostly muslim, and the indians were mostly hindu. The problems arose when Pakistan killed or kicked out all the hindus out of the country, but the Indians did nothing to the muslims living in India. This is has been the root cause of hostility for the past 60 years. Pakistan has provoked India time and time again, and by receiving help from the Americans, who pretty much rely on india for economic purposes (see: outsourcing), it just muddies up the situation. Although, I'm not surprised by Clinton's ignorance. She got this position simply for political purposes, and her international knowledge probably consists solely of intel briefs, which are also quite lacking.
- varun1s, on 07/19/2009, -2/+12@ Atrocious: Pakistan has a long and recent history of waging war with india via proxy (aka terrorists):
During and directly after the war, Pakistan blamed the fighting entirely on independent Kashmiri insurgents, but documents left behind by casualties and later statements by Pakistan's Prime Minister and Chief of Army Staff showed involvement of Pakistani paramilitary forces,[9][10] [11] led by General Ashraf Rashid.[12]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kargil_War
Why would they do it?
Let's see:
1) Jihad on infidels
2) Jihad on infidels
3) Jihad on infidels - strykefive, on 07/19/2009, -2/+11You got that right. Its amazing how the US asks India for restraint in dealing with a clear terrorist haven in Pakistan when itself fighting two wars.
***** that *****. - yocouchdigga, on 07/19/2009, -8/+16sometimes I think we all deserve to be wiped out. humanity's such a scourge on this beautiful planet.
- RamblingSoul, on 07/19/2009, -2/+9ISI has been harboring terrorism in India for decades and it is a known fact. Even the attackers in Mumbai was trained with Pakistani Military before they were sent to kill Indians. If no government agency in Pakistan is associated with it, how will they manage to cross the sea carrying all those guns and bombs ?
- doom777, on 07/19/2009, -0/+7One hundred seventy three.
That's the number of people killed in Mumbai attacks, planned, and supplied from Pakistan. Three hundred and eight more people were injured. - RamblingSoul, on 07/19/2009, -1/+8I would like to see US pulling its soldiers from Afganistan, Making up with Iran, and hugging the North Koreans before they demand India to do that. India has been tolerating the terrorism from Pakistan since Independence. and after last year's attack in Mumbai and seeing how trivial an effort the pakistani government has been doing, i don't see any reason why India should make up with Pakistan. In fact India should stop all its trade / communication / transportation links to Pakistan. that is the only way to reduce the amount of terrorism exported by that country to Indian soil. But alas, no government ever had, and would never have, the guts to disobey the US of A. I sometimes wonder if India really got Independence.
- Darkelement878, on 07/19/2009, -4/+11Just because you make mistakes (and in the case of america it has been a series of large mistakes) doesn't necessarily discredit you from giving good advice. If Pakistan and India did happen to duke it out, well... That'd be bad for EVERYBODY.
- alamedaman, on 07/19/2009, -3/+9the US is now trying to play India and Pak off each other... we want the trade markets in India but need to make sure the taliban dont take over in Pak.
- hedgiemaster, on 07/19/2009, -2/+7We need to ban movies!
- matsyes, on 07/19/2009, -4/+9LOL That has to be one of the stupidest comments I have ever seen!!! You are effectively asking a nation that has been consistently the victim of state sponsored terrorism against its civilian population to agree to a peace with the aggressor nation.
Especially when each of these peace talks has been interrupted by attacks in bombay , delhi, bangalore and constantly in kashmir along with a fullscale invasion.
India is not the threat here, the troops are there to keep pakistan and terrorists out. Not to invade, check out the war in kargil if you want to understand more. - Verchiel77, on 07/19/2009, -2/+6The issue was the nuclear status, specifically; sorry if the crayon wasn't writ large enough on the wall for you to catch it.
- meghalc, on 07/19/2009, -0/+4Pakistan should be taken care of just like terrorists. They've been harboring and training terrorists for decades. U.S. is just playing nice with them because they just need to have U.S. military base in Pakistan.
- suhredayan, on 07/19/2009, -1/+5Then why did Pakistan government released the Mumbai attack's master mind last week?
- Sabretou, on 07/19/2009, -3/+7Yeah well you haven't witnessed the horror of the Hindi television media. They make Fox look like it's professional.
- inactive, on 07/19/2009, -3/+7i like how american politicians scurry to places like india and china to kiss ass whenever something goes wrong. countries like these are truly independent as opposed to poodles like britain who just do your bidding at the snap of the fingers.
- iizh, on 07/19/2009, -2/+5I *was* talking about nuclear status. Recognition as a nuclear power doesn't stem from the NPT; it stems from... surprise... having nuclear weapons! America's recognition is about as valuable as pile of rat *****.
India can develop its own reactors and gets uranium from Russia. This deal was never anything more than icing. And note that you lose even with your interpretation of nuclear status. This deal didn't change the NPT and so nothing is legitimized from the American point of view. - mabbasc, on 07/19/2009, -6/+9It's about time India realizes that the Mumbai attack involved some Pakistani citizens but not the government who has displaced 3 million people around SWAT in trying to please the world and now faces a crisis.
These two countries can help each other immensely if they just put aside their egos. - iizh, on 07/19/2009, -4/+7Oh yes, a country has no legitimacy until America says so. Those silly Indians.
- morningmatters, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Wow, a lot of Indians on digg :)
Well, you know how America is, it's just doing what's the best only for the good old USA while completely ignoring what's sensible for rest of the world.
But this at the same time is what makes the US so strong. - suhredayan, on 07/19/2009, -3/+5India has tried this numerous times in past, and has burnt its hand on all the occasion. Most recent one was with Kargil infiltration in 99, soon after then India Prime Minister Vajpayee made a historical bus journey to Pakistan.
- strykefive, on 07/19/2009, -0/+2Sorry to burst your bubble, but the government currently isnt doing a single thing to prosecute/catch the clear purportrators of those Nov 26 attacks. Hafiz Saeed is still out there and its complete ***** to think Pakistan will ever arrest and prosecute those who had a hand in those attacks.
- varun1s, on 07/19/2009, -1/+3Dugg up. It would be like US making up with Al-Qaida.
- mikos, on 07/19/2009, -1/+3I largely agree with this post, although disagree with the "...but the Indians did nothing to the muslims living in India" bit. Several thousand muslims were killed in pogroms during the partition.
- parmgrewal, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1giving advice and threatening are different things US got no business here. US shld be more concerned about it's economical problems.
- RockytheRocker, on 08/06/2009, -0/+1one should not forget that India is sovereign, republic country. so NO pressure from the USA or any other country. its Pakistan which under immense pressure of USA as it sustains in the Money of the USA. the USA thinks that its above UNO. but it matter of appreciation that usa is playing a key role in bringing peace & harmony among nation.
but it should Stop being Autocrat. - Atroacious, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1lmao
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1No, India does use that against Pakistan too. And furthermore India gets aid from Israel and Russia as well.
- acliffhang3r, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1Nobody is going to put anything in Pakistan's begging bowl anymore.
Pakistan needs to be wiped out like the ***** stain on the world that it has become. - lemur, on 07/19/2009, -1/+2A) USA *should* leave Afghanistan
B) USA definitely should mend ties with Iran (Iran is the solution in the Middle East, not the problem)
C) North Koreans DO need hugs. They need more than that, but hugs wouldn't hurt
D) India needs to help Pakistan more. Do you really think "Pakistan" (the entire country) is behind terrorist attacks? What do you expect India to do? If you think what India does is "tolerance," then what is the alternative? Blow the ***** out of the country and wreak death and destruction on millions of innocent lives? Oh yeah, that'll make people less likely to resort to violent extremism. /s
Your "solution" is totally the opposite of what really needs to be done. Isolating Pakistan will just turn the nation into a more wretched and impoverished place. It will secure the power and influence of terrorists and tyrants that run the country and hold millions of innocents hostage. You think USA trade embargo did anything for Cuba? No. Iran? No. This kind of childish of shutting down all interaction just alienates the countries further and makes them more hostile to each other, less likely to achieve peace. It will not reduce terrorism, but increase it, and you're a fool for suggestion such a thing. - heliumflash, on 07/19/2009, -1/+2You go first then. I'm sure we'll all follow.
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1They never will. But India is trying hard by supplying full support to Baitullah Mehsud to talibanise Pakistan.
- iizh, on 07/19/2009, -4/+5It's hard to get along with a country that sponsors terrorism against your civilians.
On the other hand, it's easy to patronizingly chide others from a safe country thousands of miles away. So let's all do that instead! - inactive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1India is doing terrorism in Kashmir since 1947.
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1Isn't it amazing you never asked India to quit terrorizing Kashmiris? Isn't it amazing you never asked India to not to stop Pakistan waters? It is Pakistan, my friend, that is the victim of terror from India. India just have more hookers and propaganda films to take over your attention from real situation.
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1RAW killed them. RAW is also responsible for terrorist attacks in Pakistan. India needs to send RAW chief to Pakistan for investigation.
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1They above comments say themselves that they were made by Indians and prove India never wanted peace with Pakistan. On the other hand Pakistan always tries to strengthen up ties b/w two countries.
- blipblipbeep, on 07/19/2009, -2/+3you lot better get it right coz im sick of all your killing.
Go on, Judge me.... i dare ya.. - acliffhang3r, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1Indian media has sadly become very sensationalized of late. However I think "Cold wind from Washington" is very apt considering Mrs Clinton is peddling "Global warming" and suggesting cutting emissions in a developing country which correlates to de-industrialization of the economy or in other words, the destruction of a modern economy.
Nobody's buying this BS in India. Thank you and please come again. - inactive, on 07/19/2009, -2/+3The united states does have business . If they turn a blind eye, countries like pakistan breed terrorist that threathen the United States and other free nations. It is in the world's interest that these two historic foes settle their hate rivalry and suspicion of each other. It takes one false move from either ends to spell catastrophe..
