  • KMHansing, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10This is a potent reminder of how safe we have made our little world, North America, in comparison to those who are still doing what the founders here did two hundred plus years ago: pledged life and fortune for the cause. This is a reminder of what we should fight to keep, why it is important to treat everyone with tolerance and understanding, why it is important for everyone -- man, woman or child -- to be the best person they can be every day. That's all you might be able to do in your world to be a hero... so do it.
  • cpharkins, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6It is so easy to let the little troubles of our lives become greater than they deserve (traffic, work deadlines, disagreements, etc.) -- especially when something like this happens in the world to really put things into perspective. To be involved in a peaceful demonstration one minute and to be shot in the next because those in power fear the change your quiet actions may bring. It makes my heart break and at the same time appreciate how lucky I truly am. Kudos to Martin for adding this very real example to the Hero project of why our world needs to change from power through aggression and fear to leading by example with kindness and peace. It is indeed time for a change. It needs to start with each individual ... be a hero.

    Definition: Not giving up, Not turning a blind eye and NOT (That says NOT) loosing your head.

    Tank Man to me says what 1,000 men with guns couldn't. He has true inner strength, will and determination. He did not consider himself when faced with injustice. He stood up. He was counted. Sure, if you've seen the pictures he's standing alone, but at least he stood!
