Digg Townhall Tonight!
Tune into the live Digg townhall tonight at 5:00pm PST/8:00pm EST.
In academia, hiring token Jews
washingtontimes.com — The Israeli-Palestinian conflict long ago spilled over into America's education departments of Middle East studies. In an attempt to appear balanced in the face of charges of anti-Israel biases, some departments or programs of Middle East studies have added Israeli scholars to their ranks - a move that at first glance appears welcome.

- digg it
- 911ArtStudent, on 08/04/2008, -27/+6So when do they start hiring nonZionists for all those crappy Jewish studies and Diaspora studies programs?
- decafmatan, on 08/04/2008, -3/+26Do you ever have ANYTHING positive to say?
- 911ArtStudent, on 08/04/2008, -17/+3Sounds like we've met. I'm guessing you were posting Zionist drivel on Digg before June 23.
- hadees, on 08/04/2008, -2/+22Rocket99, I seriously doubt you know anything about Jewish study programs at any college. I would ask you to show some evidence for your outlandish claims but I already know you have none because you never have evidence for anything you say. I'm really not surprised since your antisemitic ***** is why you got banned from this site only to come back with the more antisemitic name of 911ArtStudent.
- yonoz, on 08/04/2008, -2/+17I wasn't aware there was much unemployment in the non-Zionist Jewish studies and Diaspora studies lecturer community.
- sn4ke666, on 08/04/2008, -2/+17What makes Jewish studies any more "crappy" than African American studies, Women's Studies, or European History?
- hadees, on 08/04/2008, -2/+16The fact that Rocket99, aka 911ArtStudent, was banned for making antisemitic comments on digg.
- 911ArtStudent, on 08/04/2008, -13/+3Women's studies & African-American studies programs suck ass too.
- MarkusGarvey, on 08/04/2008, -12/+5jeeze give it a break already Hadees....or produce the comment...your blowing hot air...
- hadees, on 08/04/2008, -4/+12MarkusGarvey, you can't produce the comment because all the comments were deleted along with his account. But there is ample evidence that Rocket99 is 911ArtStudent. Here is just part of that evidence. http://imgset.com/showoriginal-403.jpg
But i'm glad you can turn a blind eye to his true feelings. If you really are Jewish you should be ashamed of your self. Your can have any views about Israel you want but what I can't forgive is aligning yourself with an antisemitie just because it is convenient. That is sickening for someone who claims to be a Jew. - wpi97, on 08/04/2008, -2/+10@MarkusGarvey
I think Art, aka Rocket, has just provided the evidence you were looking for. - hadees, on 08/04/2008, -2/+10@MarkusGravey,
You know you got me thinking, i did report Rocket99, i'm not sure if this is what got him banned but here is the comment i copied and sent to abuse@digg.com
"Great point hadees. Jews have always been compleltely blameless! They
have been kicked out of 78 countries but have never, ever, done
anything that would provoke a reprisal - especially in Palestine!
It is always 100% the fault of the goyim. Who knows how such
irrational antisemitism can be spread? It seems to follow Jews
wherever they go. One thing is certain, it can have nothing to do with
what is done in the name of Jews - nothing at all. Keep telling
yourself that you hatefilled anti-gentile bigot!"
The comment was deleted along with Rocket99's account but here is the link anyway.
http://digg.com/world_news/Anti_Semitism_is_on_the ... - MarkusGarvey, on 08/05/2008, -10/+2"But there is ample evidence that Rocket99 is 911ArtStudent"...so...im sure you and your buddies have shared your thoughts on this with digg admins 100's of times by now...either your wrong or they don't care...for the life of me, i cant seem to with seem to find anything wrong with the comment you sent to abuse, as a matter of fact, i totally agree with him..100 ***** %... in your world, that's an antisemitic comment?.....and as far as 911ArtStudent goes, i don't seem to see that anything that he has said that is antisemitic, bigoted or racist either...he's a good man...
- hadees, on 08/05/2008, -2/+8lol actually i never reported him again because it is pointless, he will just join again with another name, i'd rather just inform people of his true nature. And I'm not wrong because part of the evidence was a shout he sent out to someone saying he was Rocekt99. Wish i took a picture of that but oh well.
And it is an antisemitic comment because he was trying to rationalize antisemitism because the fact hatred of Jews was wide spread. Not only that he is generalizing all Jews together. Your response to this is why I doubt you are a Jew. You don't have to love Israel to see what he is saying is wrong, hell you don't even have to be a Jew.
Oh and thanks for becoming a fan of mine, i would return the favor but frankly you aren't that interesting. Hope you have fun stalking me. - MarkusGarvey, on 08/05/2008, -8/+4"Hope you have fun stalking me."..don't flatter yourself...this guy is not a Jew either by your standard...
http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=nnLBUei3Iok
and why should it matter anyway...you guys always try to interpret hatred of Zionism as hatred of Jews...it's not working anymore... - hadees, on 08/05/2008, -2/+7@MarkusGarvey, if you don't plan on stalking me why become my fan?
And your smear campaign against me isn't working, I never once said hatred of Zionism means you aren't a Jew. I said I doubt you are a Jew because you only seem to bring up your "Jewishness" to use it as a weapon. All the while ignoring real antisemitism from someone whom you are a mutual friends with who makes a claim not about Israel or Zionism but Jews as a whole and how they as a whole deserved to be hated because of some abstract thing that Rocket99 says they must have done to deserve it. I would like to think a real Jew would have more self respect then that and be able to still express their views about Zionism and Israel with out allying themselves with people who hate their race. - MarkusGarvey, on 08/05/2008, -6/+2i didn't bring up my "Jewishness"....you did...and "smear campaign"?...when did i start that?...i think you might be a bit paranoid hadees....and who made you the judge of what a real Jew is?...who are you to judge me?..i have as much right to my own opinion as you do...i befriend all you right wing and Zionist guys to see how you think by who's comments you digg...you can see what i digg too, regardless if we are mutual..it's very enlightening...rocket was not an antisemite, and i don't need you to tell me who my friends should be...i can already see i am a much better judge of character than you are...minds are like parachutes...they function best when open...
- hadees, on 08/05/2008, -1/+4@MarkusGarvey, You didn't bring it up in this conversation but the only reason I know you are Jewish is because you tried to use it as a qualifier as to why although you claim to hate Hamas and Fatah you never criticize them which is of coarse totally irrelevant. Do you expect me to forget everything you say after ever conversation we have?
And you are totally trying to smear me. You said and I quote "you guys always try to interpret hatred of Zionism as hatred of Jews...it's not working anymore...". I never have done that and you have no proof I ever did. The comment I quoted from Rocket99 had nothing to do with Israel and story in which Rocket99 posted it also had nothing to do with Israel. Israel had nothing to do with it, his hatred of Jews and him rationalizing why Jews as a whole were hated in numerous countries is the issue.
As for me judging you, let me ask you this who are you to judge Israel? It is an asinine question because the entire point of this site is to judge each other, that is why we can vote up comments or vote them down. You most certainly have right to your own opinion and given how that right was restricted for Jews for so long I wouldn't dream of taking it away from you even though i strongly disagree with you. However I also have the right to call you out for protecting an antisemitic because it is convenient for you since he also happens to hate Israel like you do. I'm sure Rocket99 just calls you "one of the good ones" when he talks about his hate for Jews in general.
Your problem is you have tunnel vision, you call me a right wing Zionist simply because I support Israel. News flash there are many people on the left who also support Israel. If you really had an open mind you would have acknowledged that Rocket99's comment was antisemitic and then continue on hating Israel but with out relying on the support of people who hate Jews. However your hate of Israel has clouded your judgment and made you willing to ally yourself with any hate monger who might digg up your comments.
- DerangedPenguin, on 08/05/2008, -1/+8I am digging you up... People need to be aware of people like you. The United States buried its head in the sands in the late 1930's thinking that ignoring Hilter would make him go away.
- catcher6250, on 08/05/2008, -0/+8I think we should all thank 911ArtStudent because he makes digg just so much more entertaining.
- decafmatan, on 08/04/2008, -3/+26Do you ever have ANYTHING positive to say?
- Zionist4U, on 08/04/2008, -4/+26ArtStudent is a hater and his foolish comments quickly expose him (her?) for what he is. He has no credibility beyond his own ilk.
The Washington Times article does an excellent job of summing up the situation in academia. We are all the losers from this situation. FTA:
"In Middle East studies, politicized writing and teaching have displaced scholarship, and academic freedom has been redefined as the liberty to dispense with academic standards. Hiring token Israeli Jews who share these views eliminates debate while providing the illusion of balance."- DerangedPenguin, on 08/05/2008, -0/+6We really should digg 911ArtStudent up. In the late 1930's the United States population buried its heads in the sanding thinking Hitler, like 911ArtStudent would just go away. I say put 911ArtStudent on a hilltop for all to see. Hate, Evil and "The Satan" can not stand up to the light of truth.
- 911ArtStudent, on 08/04/2008, -19/+3From the Dean of the Realist school of American Political Science, John Mearsheimer, and the former dean of Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, Stephen Walt:
"A number of Jewish philanthropists have recently established Israel Studies programmes (in addition to the roughly 130 Jewish Studies programmes already in existence) so as to increase the number of Israel-friendly scholars on campus. In May 2003, NYU announced the establishment of the Taub Center for Israel Studies; similar programmes have been set up at Berkeley, Brandeis and Emory. Academic administrators emphasise their pedagogical value, but the truth is that they are intended in large part to promote Israel’s image. Fred Laffer, the head of the Taub Foundation, makes it clear that his foundation funded the NYU centre to help counter the ‘Arabic [sic] point of view’ that he thinks is prevalent in NYU’s Middle East programmes."

Run to the hills run for your lives
An ecookie for the one that gets it (no google allowed).
- urik88, on 08/05/2008, -1/+4Run to the hills run for your lives
- 911ArtStudent, on 08/04/2008, -11/+3No need to run for the hills. It's just that you are better off signing up for a real academic subject.
- neko6, on 08/05/2008, -0/+8Oh no! ANYTHING but a Jewish study program that might make the Jewish country look good!
When 40% of Jews live in Israel, and 90% of the rest are active in pro-Israeli groups, why should it surprise you that the majority of Jewish study professors are pro-Israeli? Are the majority of Islam studies professors anti-Arab?
911 - You make it look as if you have a mental problem that renders you unable to do or understand anything that is directly related to the hatred of Jews and Israel. I pity your hating soul.
- wpi97, on 08/04/2008, -2/+11Oh no! Run for the hills!
- MarkusGarvey, on 08/04/2008, -15/+4:(...our new friend decafmatan is gone...so sad...( see #9 in the TOS)...i didn't do it!...something about altering the digg count maybe?//s...
- jabberwolf, on 08/05/2008, -4/+13This is the only way that the jew haters can seem legitimate - get the most obscure nobodies that happen to be Jewish to fight for you!
- Trublmakr, on 08/05/2008, -5/+1Those that truly hate don't seek approval or legitimacy - they don't require it. To belittle as "nobodies" those who dare disagree with your political ideology is not only intellectually dishonest, but also so morally weak I'm surprised you can muster the strength to type.
- Sternsgang, on 08/05/2008, -5/+12College universities are filled with anti-Semitism. Most people believe anti-Semitism is a far right ideology but in most college universities it is on the far left that espouse most of the anti-Semitic propaganda. These hatemongers need to be denied tenure so they don't fill future generations with their hate.
- Tangaroa, on 08/05/2008, -2/+8The original antisemites were far-right, but the far left fell in love with them for various reasons including extremist multicuturalism to the point of thinking anything foreign must be celebrated, hatred of successful societies like Israel living next to unsuccessful ones without sharing, receiving their marching orders from Comintern when the USSR sided with the Arab League, receiving their marching orders from the Arab League along with a large donation to the college, and hating anything associated with the capitalist US and Europe. And, of course, everyone involved is too stupid to know any better. We now have so-called peace activists supporting the world's most violent terrorists and calling for a war of genocide against the Jews. Many of them are too damned stupid to understand what they are saying, and what is scarier is that some of them aren't.
- abdo, on 08/05/2008, -5/+3You know, naming yourself after a terrorist group makes you very credible.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Count_Folke_Bernadott ...- Sternsgang, on 08/05/2008, -3/+2The Sterns Gang was a patriotic organization, much like Americas founding fathers.
- neko6, on 08/05/2008, -2/+6Reverse discrimination is almost as bad as discrimination...
- sifuchar, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1No, discrimination (forward, reverse, or sideways) is exactly as bad as discrimination. Does the wrongness of it change depending on who the victim is?
- abdo, on 08/05/2008, -7/+1So when will they add Palestinian-friendly scholars?
- Zacktopia, on 08/06/2008, -0/+5If they add scholars who are merely friendly with Palestinians - instead of the present majority who appear to worship them as gods - that would be a step toward moderation.
