- Junkyarddawg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0The showtrial that sent Khodorovsky to prison and eliminated Russias largest privately owned oil company; the "gas price" attacks on Georgia and Ukraine when they tried to approach the west; the Baltic Sea/Chancellor Schröder gas pipeline scandal; the confiscation of Dutch Shells operations in Siberia... The list is long.
Russia considers its oil and gas to be tactical weapons to be used for geopolitical gain, and it's not kidding around.
As its neighbor and chief trade partner the EU has a country with 145 million inhabitants, a massive and growing nuclear and conventional arsenal, newly rich with oil money... and run by the mob.
The EU is right to be worried.
So should the US be, if it wasn't completely preoccupied with its ideological crusade in the middle east.- BabyWookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How dare Russia look out for her own interests! Why does Russia have to subcidize unfriendly countries with "bellow market value" gas? It would be insane to demand that of any country. People like Khodorovsky and other oligarchs sold off Russia's natural resources and moved the proceedes out of the country. They were the real mob.
