If you're white, George Bush praises you after a crisis.
breitbart.com — President Bush hailed the resilience of this town and its tiny high school graduating class Sunday, one year after a tornado barreled through with astonishing fury.

- jeddy963, on 05/04/2008, -2/+10Let's use ANY current event to hate on our President. *****YAWN*****
- verge, on 05/04/2008, -7/+1See, that's where you misunderstand, my friend. I'm pointing towards the black eye George W. Bush gave America and Americans in response to an event that occurred over two years ago, the negligence of the Army Corps of Engineers, and the current fiasco wherein dams are being filled with newspapers.
With this crisis as a yardstick, the hardships (predominantly White people) endure are somehow more important and the response starkly more sympathetic. And I don't agree with it, with all due respect to your point.- kithogan, on 05/04/2008, -1/+8new orleans has had flood and levee issues for years, not bush's fault..only an idiot would build on ground BELOW a huge river like the Old Miss.............the Black Mayor didn't lift one finger to help his people. Grifters like you want to blame Pres bush for everything, including having a hang-nail. Get over it.
- RGWX, on 05/04/2008, -1/+8A rather brief and cursory search (you've heard of Google, yes?) will reveal a number of speeches by President Bush praising the people of New Orleans in the wake of Katrina.
- jeddy963, on 05/05/2008, -0/+4Verge, you are a typical liberal idiot. George Bush did not give America or Americans a black eye. Hurricane Katrina, a natural phenomenon, gave New Orleans a black eye, and you believe that because FEMA blew the INITIAL response, George Bush is a racist. Despite the fact that you HATE the government, you still believe it is the government's responsibility to save your ass and every other unfortunate Americans who has some bad luck with the weather. Grow up. I expect you blame the AIDS crisis on the government too, because they can't save every fool American who insists on having unprotected, unsafe sex. Ever heard of personal responsibility? You liberals are sickening because you blame everybody but yourselves.

- kithogan, on 05/04/2008, -2/+8The black folks we met in New Orleans blamed their BLACK mayor for the Katrina disaster, not Pres Bush. They said that the rich mayor, who lives in a fancy mansion in the white district, bugged out for TX with his family instead of staying and helping citizens flee.
- MiguelOC, on 05/04/2008, -2/+6This kind of comment (if you're white....) does nothing to further dialogue. First it does not incorporate the fact that the Democratic governor told President Bush, when he offered aid, that everything was under control. Between her ineptness and the mayor's, it is no wonder things turned out as they did. Secondly such comments are extremely cynical and designed as "race baiting." Again it conflicts with reality. It is nothing but typical liberal pabulum-- a mindless regurgitation of someone else's mindless comments. It really doesn't reflect anything in the story. Another liberal indulgence designed to gain attention and garner comments by raining on someone else's (in this case, this poor town's) parade. Get a life, Verge!
- BethL, on 05/05/2008, -4/+1The thing I remember from Bush's reaction at the time had nothing to do with race, it had to do with Bush's total out of touch with reality as "leader" of our country. I remember wondering why it took him so long to get involved. Then when he finally did remember his "Good Job Browinie" then ends up Brownie sucked. The whole handling of the disaster, was a...disaster. Bush's lack of leadership is apalling and no matter what he's asked...he's out of touch. There were no weapons of mass destruction, the mission wasn't accomplished, there IS a recession, the war in Iraq ISN'T being won and we can't afford it, the Iraq government has NOT stepped up to the plate etc. etc. etc.
Does that make me hate Bush according to you neocons? No. I voted for him the first time. The second time I realized he was an inept president that may have harmed the reputation of my country for decades to come and I resigned from the Republican party.- soofan, on 05/05/2008, -0/+0Bush had been in contact with the Governor of the state who said it was under control....duh! There is more to the "Brownie story" then you know and it doesn't have anything to do with President Bush. The government bureaucracy had not dealt with a tragedy of that magnitude before. We have not deciphered all of the papers taken from Iraq so we still are not sure of what capabilities Iraq had. Israel took out their nuclear reactors some years ago so it's obvious they had some capability. Were you willing to risk another attack? Blame President Bush all you want but you have been safe for seven years.
- BethL, on 05/05/2008, -0/+0Gee Soofan, the only terrorist attack on our soil came UNDER Bush's watch. So Bush has been the only president we have been attacked under. He has made us less safe in actual fact. There was no Al Quida in Irag until he attacked their country. The world was with us after 9/11 but Bush rebuffed their support with his cowboy diplomacy and made US the enemy with a preemptive attack against a nation that had NO WMDs. Obviously Bush and his advisors are grossly incompetent for that stupid move alone! Clearly he has no clue and has stubbornly refused to not only listen to the entire world opinion, but he has consistenly rebuffed the MAJORITY opinion of the American people. Brownie was just one example of his being out of touch. And by the way, New Orleans is still a mess...just like Iraq. Bush had 8 years and it's WORSE as a result. Read the polls dude, WORST APPROVAL RATINGS OF ANY PRESIDENT EVER. Puts you in the minority....not me.

- allaboutdatiki, on 05/05/2008, -0/+4 Bush thanked the graduates for changing the date of their big day to accommodate him. The commencement had been set for May 10, when his daughter Jenna is getting married.
"I could have suggested changing the date of the wedding instead," Bush said wryly, "but I think we all know how that idea would have turned out."- soofan, on 05/05/2008, -0/+0Would you have delayed your graduation to have the President of the United States be the commencement speaker? In a heartbeat...so why are you so critical of the delay. It's an honor and privilege that no other high school had and it will be remembered for a lifetime. He thanked them for changing the date so he could be there. They didn't mind so why should you be critical?
- umbriago, on 05/05/2008, -5/+1They should remember this day. I mean, how often does one disaster area meet another?
- soofan, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1That's unfair umbriago. This President will be judged by history and I think probably not as a disaster but as a success. It's in the eyes of the beholder.
- IronCityFan, on 05/05/2008, -3/+10I am sick of the black man blaming all their woes on the white man! Get a life black man, get an education! There are better opportunities for the black community to get a college education than for a white man. Ever heard of the NAA"W"P? Me either. Take Bill Cosby's advice, look to yourselves and your parents to point the finger at. Racism is alive and well in America, It's blacks being racist against white though! Want proof??? Hows this...94% of all blacks in America are voting for Obama...94%!!!!!!!!!! No one at no time in the history of America has had such a large percentage of people vote for him. OBVIOUSLY YOU'RE VOTING FOR SOMEONE BECAUSE OF THE COLOR OF HIS SKIN.....THAT'S RACISM!!! The only reason a candidate as wholly unqualified as him is still in the election is because your racism has put him there. If Obama was a white inexperienced second term senator whose wife said she has NEVER been proud of America even once in her life, has affiliated with a racist pastor for 20 years and refuses to denounce him, cavorts with a known terrorist and wants to do the things he wants to do in this country------HE WOULD HAVE BEEN RUN OUT OF TOWN----- but since he's BLACK and ONLY because he's BLACK, he is leading the Democrats. (McCain is gonna eat him for lunch though) Yes, racism is alive and well in the U.S. but it's blacks being racist against whites and those two losers Jackson and Sharpton are to blame. I met a black man in California who was born and raised in England. Complete with British accent and everything, it was weird to hear, but he told me he hates coming to America because he's embarrassed to be a black man in America. He went on to say that he travels all over the world in his business and only in America do the blacks moan, groan and complain about how baaaaaad they have it in this country and how NOTHING is ever their fault and they are victims of this or that! He said the blacks in other countries take responsibility for their own lives and don't blame everyone and everything for their station in life. So get a clue black people. GET A JOB, OR GO TO SCHOOL EITHER WAY, SHUT THE F.U. AND DO SOMETHING. TAKE BILL COSBY'S ADVICE AND POINT THE FINGER AT YOURSELF AND YOUR PARENTS...NOT THE WHITE GUY!!!!!
- carl6352, on 05/05/2008, -0/+0the truth comes out
- cheeseysynapse, on 05/05/2008, -2/+6 And the next headline by verge for his fantasy newspaper...............only racists don't vote Obama!
- funatwork2, on 05/05/2008, -1/+3May the Lord bless our president in all his doings. And help McCain do his thing too next year. The other two are nice people too, but everybody knows they're not going to be prez in 09. maybe in 13 or 17.
- funatwork2, on 05/05/2008, -1/+5Stop hatin everybody and get a life.
- soofan, on 05/05/2008, -1/+1I'm with you. The comments are starting to get rediculas and serve no purpose other then division.
- carl6352, on 05/05/2008, -0/+0when new orleans was leveled bush praised the people also. your mayor, the police and city employees all left you to fend for your self. now aren't you little dumb for stating what you said. you should be complaining to your fellow black government citizens than trying to make it racial. you voted the city employees to run your city. not bush. you should look in the mirror. also you were told back in the 70's that the levees would not work what did your state and city politicians (democrats) do nothing. don't blame bush for your(meaning you) stupidity
