If Oil Prices Fall, Will We Still Care About Solar or Wind?
blogs.wsj.com — Is America ’s newfound obsession with solar, geothermal, and wind power just a flirtation until the energy bills lighten again? Make that if they lighten again. Or have we, as one hopeful green real-estate developer put it, “fundamentally turned a corner” in our attitudes about renewable energy alternatives.

- tufftugg, on 07/20/2008, -1/+1 Brazil doesn't rely on outside oil, but then again they think.
- Crabsinmypants, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1I would like to believe that people will still care for solar and wind energy not for the environmental reason as much as fear of future price spikes. There are more people now then ever thinking about the future of oil and realizing that oil won't always be the answer. These are the people who will either A) invest in making their home energy independent or B) Invest in a large scale operation to sale to the public, like Boone Pickens http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2008/jul/10/alternati ... ..
- Koloss, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1No we won't, because every last person I've ever met, simply loves there car. The sad truth is that the amount of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere, isn't limited by our will to stop pumping it in there, but by the amount of oil we can find and dig out of the crust of the Earth. There will always be somebody with an excuse to use oil, so lone as it's still available. Just because we can pay for oil, doesn't mean we can afford it though.
The determination we display, at heat up the atmosphere, almost makes it seem, like it's been our plan all along. Just imagine how effective the wind turbines will be, when we have hurricanes all year around! - tinybubs, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1The world's biggest disgrace over the last 35 years has been that we haven't developed alternative fuels. The Arab Oil Embargo of 1973 alerted everyone to the need for a change in energy resources, but sadly there was only political posturing over the problem. If petroleum prices drop back to reasonable levels soon, then I expect consumers will go back to what they know best and the small progress that has been made with hybrids, wind power, solar, and other alternatives will become nothing more than a memory.
- FaithclubDotNet, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1I don't think the solar industry really cares what the general populace thinks. Some players in solar industry have finally made solar cheaper to produce electricity than coal. With this technology, supplemental powerplants will be popping up all over the globe.
