- digg it
- chinacensored, on 05/12/2008, -2/+7Still waiting for the news to show damage to the buildings around Chengdu. They've already had some frightening talk--although I'm getting it translated from Chinese (not sure how accurate the translations are).
- unreg, on 05/12/2008, -6/+1Good thing the thread titles ended with an exclimation point.
- pitlord, on 05/13/2008, -1/+3Wow, this took almost 24 HOURS to hit the front page.
-_-
Digg is so friggin obsessed with the election and Megan Fox's pasty covered boobs that they completely ignored over 10,000 human beings getting crushed in a massive earthquake?
O.O
Pathetic!- themastersb, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1You know that there are 24 hours in a day and not 12 right?
- adamweishaupt, on 05/12/2008, -3/+36I work in an office tower in Beijing - we felt the quake quite distinctly on the 20th floor, although it was not terribly violent. Current info on death toll says 5,000 at least. Best hard data available to estimate how the damage is going to be is available through the US Geological Survey here: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/pager/events/u ...
Pray for the people in Sichuan, one of the most heavily populated regions in the world...- nstanosheck, on 05/12/2008, -0/+8The official death toll is now over 8,500 with many more missing and/or trapped including at schools and at a chemical plant where liquid forms of gasses are leaking everywhere. This, unfortunately, looks like its only going to become a worse disaster before it gets any better.
- Hangly, on 05/13/2008, -1/+5I work in Dalian. We were unaffected, but at about 3 PM about half of my MSN contacts disappeared. Mostly because all my friends in Beijing had been evacuated.
This morning's paper says there were 50+ deaths in Gansu province. Gansu! That's two provinces away! It's like if there was a quake in LA and 50 people in Phoenix were killed.- fpaudon, on 05/13/2008, -0/+4Hey, half my family lives in Dalian. Dugg for reporting that nothing serious happened there.
- arnarag, on 05/13/2008, -0/+4I was on ground floor in Beijing and didn't feel a thing. People came running to me telling me to leave the building. There were hundreds of people on the streets since most buildings around had been evacuated.
One thing that shocked me a bit was that a lot of Chinese people were really upset because they had to wait up to 20 minutes for the elevator! Some even told me they had basically been running around in circles afraid they would never be able to get down because the elevator was too slow...
Death toll around 10,000 now. Xinhua news agency reports that it might go up to 20,000 around the next few days.- Hangly, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1Were there no stairs? Using an elevator during an earthquake isn't the best idea.
- ShanghaiBaby, on 05/12/2008, -3/+11at least 8500 victims so far
- Th3Don, on 05/12/2008, -8/+2Hopefully still enough people left to produce that delicious beef
- moolaismyfriend, on 05/12/2008, -27/+12Well If I was going to use John McCain's spiritual adviser's reasoning then there must be allot of gay people in China because God hates gay people and therefore he punished them with this earthquake.
Just saying that's how anti-American Republican preachers view the world.- oceanrain, on 05/12/2008, -8/+7No, it's global warming that caused it. Just ask Al.
- moolaismyfriend, on 05/12/2008, -6/+1Fail
- supras, on 05/12/2008, -6/+1Some studies have shown melting ice sheets have been related to tectonic movements. Pull your head out of your ass and use Google Scholar for once.
- xero040486, on 05/12/2008, -3/+9People like you should be beaten unconscious with nerf bats.
- BryanJK, on 05/12/2008, -1/+4nerf bats? I think a more eco friendly approach of a large stick would work
- geogeer, on 05/12/2008, -2/+8I would think that if God were to smite China it would be over the infanticide that goes on to enforce the 1 child rule.
But not being God I wouldn't know.- Workster, on 05/12/2008, -4/+3Abortion isn't infanticide,so you're wrong.
- geogeer, on 05/13/2008, -0/+3They have abortion AND infanticide. If you read up on it you'll find stories of soldiers coming along and killing infants that the parents managed to hide during pregnancy.
- Workster, on 05/12/2008, -4/+3Abortion isn't infanticide,so you're wrong.
- moolaismyfriend, on 05/12/2008, -5/+5You guys bury this?
Do you even know about McCain's spiritual advisor? He said Katrina was Gods punishment on New Orleans for having a gay parade!- xero040486, on 05/12/2008, -4/+6People like you should be beaten unconscious with nerf bats.
- moolaismyfriend, on 05/12/2008, -6/+3ok
thanks for supporting bigotry
- moolaismyfriend, on 05/12/2008, -6/+3ok
- artfiend77, on 05/13/2008, -1/+0Of course people know about it. They and even MSM make a big deal about it for week! Only instead of McCain they used Obama , instead of his pastor they used Rev. Wright and instead of God's wrath they used a 30 second clip about how Wright said God damn America. / sarcasm
Either way, my heart goes out to those children and their families.
- xero040486, on 05/12/2008, -4/+6People like you should be beaten unconscious with nerf bats.
- cramming, on 05/13/2008, -1/+6Jesus ***** Christ, can't you suspend your political sling-shotting for one second?
This thread is titled: "Huge earthquake jolts Sichuan, tremors felt across China!". This isn't a political water balloon fight, this is about the situation in China. Americans are so ***** self-centered.- taintdluv, on 05/13/2008, -0/+0Please don't group all of us in with assholes like that guy.

- greenlight2001, on 05/12/2008, -5/+8Because people dying is funny!
- RespectableGuy, on 05/12/2008, -8/+3yes.
- dragonrice, on 05/13/2008, -4/+4They were made in China so it's not really that funny.
- Jeffler, on 05/12/2008, -1/+9Probably the most tasteless use of it I've ever seen. Even though its one of the few times I've seen it posted when it works. Go to hell anyway though.
- Alix7, on 05/12/2008, -3/+7Vegeta, what does the power level say?

- ZaZ2137, on 05/12/2008, -4/+6Before you digg this person down....there was a joke about what would happen if all the people in China jumped at once and the resulting earthquake.
- imitokay, on 05/12/2008, -3/+8man, over 8500 dead, and your tellin jokes,
I hope your affected by something like this one day, so you can put a better perspective on life

- unreg, on 05/12/2008, -6/+8Pay back for Tibet
- geogeer, on 05/12/2008, -0/+3It isn't that I think that the communist government doesn't deserve this and much worse, but I feel sorry and pray for the innocent people who die.
- Yage2006, on 05/12/2008, -3/+4your comment sickens me.
Why is it that you would wish that on a people only because there government is different then yours.
Is your government so much better ? - cramming, on 05/13/2008, -1/+3Pay back delivered upon the Chinese province where many Tibetans live.
A genius statement was delivered here ladies and gentleman and it was "Pay back for Tibet".
- unreg, on 05/12/2008, -6/+8Pay back for Tibet
- Hangly, on 05/12/2008, -1/+8Yes, it really is.
- BryanJK, on 05/12/2008, -1/+6put it in a different perspective, if the US was hit with a massive earthquake and you are now trapped in a building and no one cared, how would that make you and the other 1000 people feel?
- ibecerfoozled, on 05/13/2008, -1/+4it's bad because you commented just to say so
- geogeer, on 05/12/2008, -2/+4Treat thy neighbour....
- theman8631, on 05/12/2008, -8/+4I find it strange that the stories picture is a man pointing at a womans bent over ass. What does this have to do with the earthquake? Perhaps everything...
- Jeffler, on 05/12/2008, -1/+5"When she sit place go boom!"
- spawnske, on 05/12/2008, -22/+4Sucked in china. this is what you get for being such a hatefull and terrible government.
- tastypaste, on 05/12/2008, -2/+7Because the government also manages tectonic plates movements, right?
Moron.

Payback's a bitch. And yeah, I realize it's inappropriate and politically incorrect, but I'd rather say what I have to say, feel free to make proper use of your bury button.- Weejay, on 05/12/2008, -6/+2I mean http://tutousan.wordpress.com/2008/04/22/the-one-w ...
- Jeffler, on 05/12/2008, -0/+9So a sign on a cap is fair reason for an earthquake killing thousands?
- Jeffler, on 05/13/2008, -0/+3Cab, sorry.
- Jeffler, on 05/12/2008, -0/+9So a sign on a cap is fair reason for an earthquake killing thousands?
- paradox4190, on 05/13/2008, -0/+5Yes, the 900 children buried in rubble are definitely to blame for that.

- supras, on 05/12/2008, -2/+10Red Cross will have its hands full for a long time.
- fpaudon, on 05/13/2008, -2/+4Nah, the Chinese army can more than take care of the situation. They really helped during the massive Chinese New Year snowstorms
- jilei202, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1The army will save alot of people,
- lazerflesh, on 05/13/2008, -1/+1China is pretty capable. I hope the US sends something over to help- a fruit basket... or maybe some geographical information would be cool. haha.
- ngmcs8203, on 05/12/2008, -2/+23Nothing bad about getting the news out but maybe, just maybe, Digg needs to have some sort of algorithm that says, "Hey this happened just now, maybe it's important enough for us to force it to the front page, no matter how many Diggs." This submission is 12hrs old.
- Accolade1, on 05/12/2008, -8/+2You mean upcoming and recently submitted?
- Jeffler, on 05/12/2008, -0/+5Very few go there and you know it.
- Tarale, on 05/13/2008, -0/+2I agree that this should be on the front page. In fact, there's something very saddening in the fact that this is one of the most terrible natural disasters in history, and Digg's front page has how to find prostitutes in Google Maps.
- blackdude, on 05/13/2008, -0/+2But.. can you code it? Good idea but it sounds pretty illogical.
- ngmcs8203, on 05/13/2008, -1/+1You don't think that the Kevin Rose's of the "community" have the power to "push" a story right to the front page?
- Accolade1, on 05/12/2008, -8/+2You mean upcoming and recently submitted?
- TROY7, on 05/12/2008, -5/+10My prayers are with them.
- Pinkertinkle, on 05/12/2008, -2/+14They'll be very lucky if the body count is under 25,000.
- Hangly, on 05/12/2008, -0/+4Unfortunately I think you're probably right :(
- phlux, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1I was in the philippines when the boxers day tsunami happened, I knew instantly that the number was going to be well over 100K -- the day before it happened we were driving in Cebu, and i was looking at all the huts and buildings at the waters edge. I though jesus, I wouldnt want to be here if there if there was a disaster. I had mentioned this to people, (not that I was some sort of psychic), but that I had been looking at the landscape in that part of the world and could very easily extrapolate the consequences... This quake will have a heavy toll. The first report I heard on the radio was that there was one building that collapsed that contained 1,000 students. Thats just one building - I wonder what impact this may have on the cost or availability of any mfr goods (sorry, I dont know what is in the region of the quake.
- rodgerse, on 05/12/2008, -15/+4Don't worry communist dictatorship, I'm sure your government will help you just like ours in a natural disaster.
heyooooooo.- skiiper, on 05/12/2008, -2/+5O yeah, go to BBC News front page. I bet you all those soldiers are there to kill people huh?
Dick hole.- rodgerse, on 05/12/2008, -1/+1http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_censorship_i ...

- purplesawdust, on 05/12/2008, -2/+8Is this like a string of Earthquakes happening? Someone enlighten me.
- oldgal, on 05/13/2008, -0/+3Generally and earthquake happens because it is releasing stress on a fault line. The release of stress tends to cause pressure to build up on another part of the fault line, the after shocks are earthquakes that relieve this built up pressure. This keeps happening until the fault is stabilized. The aftershocks are generally lower magnitude than the original earthquake. Sometimes a big quake will happen after a series of small quakes - they predict this is going to happen in Nevada where they have been experience regular small quakes.
- pumpedvideo, on 05/12/2008, -7/+9buried as inaccurate, there are more than 9000 people die already
- Rodalli, on 05/12/2008, -1/+6Must...resist...
- yukevster, on 05/12/2008, -3/+69 dead?

- cheese06, on 05/12/2008, -8/+11if this were to happen in the states, by now, the U.S government would be blamed for mismanaging the disaster and China's version of Kanye would come out saying Hu JinTao hates Chahnese people.
- wickensworth, on 05/12/2008, -2/+10That's because the Bush administration would, by now, have mismanaged the disaster
- dave6, on 05/12/2008, -6/+1I don't know about you, but I prefer to live in a country that has free speech.
- oldgal, on 05/13/2008, -2/+3Areas of the U.S. at high risk for earthquakes have very high building code standards - oh those pesky governmental regulations.
- diggenator, on 05/12/2008, -8/+5Al Gore said we should expect this kinda stuff: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,354644,00.html

- lazerflesh, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1Don't ever expect to get a positive digg linking faux, haha.
- Zilk, on 05/12/2008, -3/+7Was that woman's fanny really the best picture they could have gotten for this?
- Hangly, on 05/13/2008, -0/+4That picture is from the Xinhua news agency's own technical department in Sichuan. It was the first picture of the quake that was made available.
Not flattering, but that's not really the point.- Zilk, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1Oh so it was the first picture. OK, well, I couldn't tell what the story was about if I was only looking at the picture. Not that the picture is the point I know.
I can't believe this has happened though. What a tragedy =/

- Rodalli, on 05/12/2008, -1/+12Latest reports say over 10,000 dead. Experts estimate the death toll could climb over 50,000. This has to be one of the most deadly natural disasters in history at this point?
- cheese06, on 05/12/2008, -0/+5not quite: the worst disaster according to the USGS was in 1556, in Shensi China. 830,000 killed. The worst recent earthquake was in Tangshan China (1976), with 255,000 killed, 7.5 richter.

- Jumba990, on 05/12/2008, -9/+4Why is this totally outdated topic on the frontpage?
- compupawn, on 05/12/2008, -12/+8For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there will be famines, plagues, and earthquakes in various places.
Matthew 24:7- lhbaker, on 05/12/2008, -3/+6There have always been famines, plagues, and earthquakes. Still no sign of Jesus.

January to February: Worst snow storms in five decades. At least 129 dead, more than 223,000 homes destroyed, over $16 billion in damage, significant food price inflation
March: Free Tibet protests. At least 22 reported killed (with many more unreported). Major PR damage.
April: anti-Chinese Olympics protests world wide.
May: Worst train accident in 10 years. 72 dead and several hundreds injured.
May: More than 30,000 infected with virus outbreak, 39 children dead.
May: 7.9 earthquake. Over 10,000 estimated to be dead.

As more and more nations try to blame Israel and the Jews for their problems the frequency and magnitude of natural disasters will increase.
-_-
Eventually, all of the people in the world will embrace the one true G-d who made his covenant with the Nations through Noah after The Flood, the Jews will serve Him at His Holy Temple in Jerusalem and there will finally be peace around the world.
^^
But, for now, we have to go through all of this death and destruction *****, because we worship false g-ds like Allah, Jesus and Buddah. We blame the Jews for some paranoid conspiracy where they secretly run the world and make us suffer. Before we are worthy of G-d's plan for The World to Come, before He blesses us by sending the Moshiach we have to suffer - because we suck like that.

- emperorpwl, on 05/13/2008, -1/+0Karma would be if you get killed in that quake.
- Samsong, on 05/13/2008, -8/+3Yeh, I'll have some Sichuan chicken...

- Simpleofmind, on 05/13/2008, -3/+16Some of the people who show no compassion and saying that this is payback and karma. What have the children that died did? What have people half way across the world did to you? Oh yea...the chinese governement. So...according to that philosophy...damn...we torturers. We are the same as Bush. The governement at the people are different. This is deaths caused by a natural disaster on innocent people. Has nothing to do with the government. So some compassion for those who died and don't involve politics.
- spawnske, on 05/13/2008, -4/+2This is great whats happened, china needs to be dismantled, blown to pieces, the government shot dead, and start again under a non communist/fear mongering/disguisting piece of ***** country.
- lazerflesh, on 05/13/2008, -0/+3I support and admire China. It's a good country, they are good for America and we need to strengthen our ties with them. ... We really should be doing something to help.
- home2u, on 05/15/2008, -0/+0Don't involve politics.
- lazerflesh, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1This is all political. Fair game.

- Betrayer, on 05/13/2008, -4/+4This may be a chance for China to show what it can do for its people in a natural disaster as compared to the "american" approach as was seen with Katrina and New Orleans... keep in mind this will effect hundreds of thousands more familys then Katrina ever did.
- Hangly, on 05/13/2008, -1/+2Here's a video taken by a couple of college kids during the quake:

I wish everyone could understand Chinese, because these guys are hilarious. - coffee200am, on 05/13/2008, -10/+8I've heard rumors that this wasn't a "natural" earthquake. Let's keep this amongst the 1..2....3....the 105 of us shall we?
The latest is that the Chinese government was experimenting with a new weapon and it got out of control. Of course, I'm not one to spread rumors. I speak no evil, I hear no evil, I see no evil...- monkeyrun, on 05/13/2008, -2/+4And I've heard rumors that Katrina's a US government experiment.....

- coffee200am, on 05/13/2008, -5/+3I would never give my sources away. How do I know you don't work for the Chinese government??? I don't want to go to prison.
