- inactive, on 04/19/2008, -8/+48And in the 3rd grade.
- inactive, on 04/19/2008, -35/+74Irak? Yup that'd be our education system at work again. 5 years at war in a country and you cant even spell it properly.
- geek22, on 04/19/2008, -7/+45It's spelled Irak in Dutch and German.
- DiggsOnlyJew, on 04/19/2008, -2/+35Submitter is from the UK.
- inactive, on 04/19/2008, -2/+32And French, and spanish.
- yosserhughes, on 04/19/2008, -2/+32Quite amazing, a video by Bill Moyers explaining the lies that led to tens of thousands of deaths, and diggers freak out because the poster misspelled a word.
Fox would be proud of such a showing, forget the message, vilify the messenger. - sny1120, on 04/19/2008, -1/+29here is the right spelling: العراق
- Wackoman, on 04/19/2008, -6/+32Beloved leaders?
- inactive, on 04/19/2008, -1/+25Sometimes it's hard to remember every little way the english language misspells every single foreign word.
- FapCommander, on 04/19/2008, -12/+34But the article was written in English
- derram, on 04/19/2008, -2/+21http://www.thefreedictionary.com/nitpicking
- funkywood, on 04/19/2008, -2/+19This rather says it all. This a serious video of why the USA is ***** because it's run by a press who puts sensationalism and politics above integrity and truth. Getting rid of Bush won't solve that. But what are you going on about? The difference in spelling of a pissing word!
I thought diggers were a more intelligent subset but it seems they're perfectly representative of the dumb soundbite idiots that the media are now expert at catering to. - maybach, on 04/19/2008, -4/+19This thread is the Digg equivalent of the ABC debate a few days ago. Anal, and missing the point entirely.
- ElvisNixon, on 04/19/2008, -0/+14can't
- OutsideofDreams, on 04/19/2008, -3/+17Iraq in English, Irak in Turkish. So the OP isn't entirely incorrect
- OutsideofDreams, on 04/19/2008, -2/+155 seconds on Wikipeida finds that Irak is the Turkish spelling of the word.
- jetboyterp, on 04/19/2008, -6/+18I love how this submission is headed: "How your beloved leaders bought the Irak war"
And then: "Make up your own mind"
Like this isn't a biased piece... - ZombieSociety, on 04/19/2008, -0/+12As it has been pointed out numerous times before you, it's spelled with a K in many other languages.
- emeraldclaw4, on 04/19/2008, -4/+15obviously all americans love this war and nascar.
I cant believe how amazing George Bush is.
Nascar is the most strenuous sport in existence. Iraq should be renamed: "George bush's super ***** awesome war of doom nextel cup tournament of death stadium"
it will be awesome because im american and i love war and guns and rape and oil its all the best i ate my own placenta after birth because im that raw and im american did i mention that im ameican and im a gun slinging cowboy and my sister looks cute to me omg i love run on sentences and sarcasm - inactive, on 04/19/2008, -1/+11He probably knows, he just didn't think about it at the time. English is my third language so I can see how he can make this mistake, I've made it myself a few times. Especially with French words (that basically make a third of the English language). I "misspell" them in English by spelling them correctly in their language of origin.
- hellosaysme, on 04/19/2008, -5/+15yes. yes it does.
- Radan, on 04/19/2008, -1/+11Irak is a very common spelling all around the world. For example, it's also spelled Irak in Sweden.
- Zer01, on 04/19/2008, -13/+22such as South Africa and the Irak such as?
- MorganKane, on 04/19/2008, -0/+9Thank you for pointing that out!
And greetings form yet another country, Norway; where it is spelled Irak. - inactive, on 04/19/2008, -1/+9It's much preferable to facing up to unpleasant truths.
- finaldarkone, on 04/19/2008, -4/+12It's also spelled Irak by 50% of Americans who voted for Bush twice.
- sqwirl, on 04/19/2008, -0/+7Dude, shut the ***** up.
***** hell, I hate being in the same country as asshats like you. - acceleration, on 04/19/2008, -2/+9But you *are* from the US, aren't you? So DiggsOnlyJew assumed correctly then, unlike you.
- inactive, on 04/19/2008, -0/+7Because we've done nothing about it.
- ZombieSociety, on 04/19/2008, -0/+7Your lack of grammar and sentence structure whilst degrading one's spelling is quite ironic.
- HoppingRabbit, on 04/19/2008, -1/+8dugg for spelling mistake and very interesting
- inactive, on 04/19/2008, -0/+6International network...
- freakofwar, on 04/19/2008, -3/+9He is right http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq#Etymology
- inactive, on 04/19/2008, -1/+7The answer is: no one is perfect. The day that you are, please get in touch with the rest of us and give us the secret, won't you?
Submitter is presumably writing in their second language. This is the *international* web, it's not just for English speakers. Thanks for being so tolerant of what must be ranked as the most huge mistake that could ever be made.
*sheesh* - inactive, on 04/19/2008, -1/+7no problem, *****.
- Jauladeoro, on 08/27/2008, -1/+7I don't know why you're getting buried. I dugg you up because you made me lol. Maybe they don't get the beauty queen reference.
- leexy, on 04/19/2008, -0/+5Good grief! The whole bloody world was shouting to you what you needed to hear from the rooftops. There were protests all over the globe with literally MILLIONS of people screaming from the top of their lungs that a war of aggression against Iraq will solve nothing. I should know, I was one of them.
So, no, Mr. CodeCobalt, this one will NOT be swept under the rug because one American deigns to mouth a "oops". Not in a time when Iran is talked about as next on the line. Not in a time when the leading Republican presidential candidate publicly says "bomb Iran!". Not when thousands and thousands of people have died. Not when a whole country was transformed into a terrorist safe haven for the benefit of a few fat cats. No, sir.
Look at the issues being talked about in this presidential race, and they'll tell you just how little the Americans have learned from their government using their money for the supreme crime. Those crimes were committed, not only in your name, but on your dime as well. And you know as well as I do that none in that trio (Clinton, McCain, Obama) will change US' foreign policy. They're all faces of the same coin. I know, I'm all over the place and come off as very emotive in this post, but I don't need none of your excuses; save them for the orphaned and maimed Iraqis. - bdbr, on 04/19/2008, -0/+5...but Congress didn't approve the war in order to change the Middle East. There wasn't even a discussion about whether it was our place to change the Middle East or if it was even possible. Congress approved the war because they were fed lies, the American public went along with it, and the news media did nothing to find the truth.
- MrErr, on 04/19/2008, -0/+5Looks like the spelling of Iraq/Irak is proving to be a DISTRACTION.
- zelig, on 04/19/2008, -3/+8Assume the position, Senators...
"[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs." Letter to President Clinton, signed by Sens. Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, and others Oct. 9, 1998. - inactive, on 04/19/2008, -0/+4I'm wondering if I should be amused or horrified about how all the comments for this documentary are about the spelling of the country and not the war itself?
- youareretarded, on 04/19/2008, -0/+4Can you idiots get over the spelling of "irak" and discuss the real issue here?
What happened after 9/11 was appalling! - djSyndrome, on 04/19/2008, -2/+6And yet they're still smarter than you. America != World
- SSUK, on 04/19/2008, -0/+4Doesn't mean he's a UK national.
- rdoger6424, on 04/19/2008, -0/+4that was the biggest pain in the ass to select
- inactive, on 04/19/2008, -4/+8Americans schooling others on spelling, geography and how to talk properly is so massive a density of irony I'm amazed they haven't been sucked into a black hole of their own ignorance. Like you ***** have never made a mistake in your lives? Grow up, look past the pissy little details, and see the big picture. Arrogant ***** *****.
- inactive, on 04/19/2008, -0/+4The origin of the name Iraq (Arabic: العراق 'al-‘Irāq, Turkish: Irak, Assyrian: ܥܪܐܩ, Kurdish: عيَراق) is disputed. There are several suggested origins for the name. One dates to the Sumerian city of Uruk (or Erech)[6] ; another maintains according to Professor Wilhelm Eilers, The name al-‘Irāq, for all its Arabic appearance, is derived from Middle Persian erāq "lowlands".[7]
Under the Persian Sassanid dynasty, there was a region called "Erak Arabi," referring to the part of the south western region of the Persian Empire that is now part of southern Iraq. The name Al-Iraq was used by the Arabs themselves, from the 6th century, for the land Iraq covers.
The English think they created half the world. -
