- rkm28, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Just a quick correction: the Mormon church does not consider its roots to have begun with Joseph Smith in 1829. Rather, the Mormon church is said to have been "restored" to a state equal to the early Christian church founded by Jesus. What happened in between is considered the "apostasy", during which all of the apostles were killed and no one was authorized to administer the Church.
In fact, the name of the church (the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) implies that the Church is the same (of Jesus Christ) but the saints or members are different (Latter-day instead of ancient-day.)- nstanosheck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yes, but that is when they started, As anyone who knows the Bible will know, Jesus said the Gates of Hades would never prevail against His Church, thus meaning that there couls not be a 1,800 year apostasy until Joseph Smith found Egyptian Hieroglyphics and Magic Glasses. Then again, maybe the correction should be that the Mormons should not even be on this list, as the traditional definition of Christianity is those that believe that Jesus Christ is God, part of the Holy Trinity and the Mormons nor the Jehovah's Witnesses believe this.

This notion is based on the idea of Apostolic succession, which was invented as a way to discredit gnostics in the 2nd century by Irenaeus. Many faiths share this same idea of that they can trace themselves back through a line of ordained bishops and such. The early Christian church had little central dogma and was widely persecuted until emperor Constantine took over. It was only after that they developed the revisionist line of succession and established central church dogma. The idea that it has not changed since then is grossly inaccurate, the celebration of Christmas is a prime example.
Spam, and inaccurate to boot.
