- slifty, on 01/30/2009, -2/+21So a neglected pony walks into a bar and says "I haven't had a bite to eat for three days", the bartender says "man that sucks, you must be feeling pretty sick...", and the pony says "I guess I'm a little hoarse!"
ZING! - plecostomus, on 01/29/2009, -2/+21Incidentally, people used to be able to sell off unwanted horses to horse slaughter factories that were since shut down. One of the chief criticisms of the horse meat ban was that it would lead to the unregulated slaughter of horses (i.e. shooting them without any particular guidelines and disposing of them in whatever way is convenient regardless of health concerns).
The biggest consumers of horse meat in the U.S. were zoos, because it's less fattening than beef. Now the horses that would have been slaughtered at American factories are shipped to Canada and/or Mexico, and in Mexico at least the regulations are much poorer then in the U.S. Ex. "The American slaughterhouses killed horses quickly by driving steel pins into their brains, a method the American Veterinary Medical Association considers humane. Workers in some Mexican plants, by contrast, disable them by stabbing them with knives to sever their spinal cords." from here: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/11/us/11horse.html? ...
* * * The More You Know (about horse slaughter) - xenuxenuts, on 01/30/2009, -2/+14Horses are bunch of god damned free loaders anyway. Let them starve. Maybe they should get a job and move out of their parent's pasture.
- stonecircle, on 06/11/2009, -1/+11No grass during Michigan winters. In northern Michigan everything will be buried in snow for another 2 - 3 months. They need hay. Unemployment in Michigan is now at double digits, and when it comes down to feeding your family, or purchasing hay...
- bjs3171, on 01/30/2009, -0/+6did you even read the description?
- phosphite, on 01/30/2009, -0/+6Hmm...how many miles to the bale of hay do they get?
- peestandingup, on 01/30/2009, -1/+7Every animal is getting neglected.
Recently, I was returning home in the early morning daylight hours & in the middle of the highway median there sat a poor little puppy all by himself. I quickly parked the car next to the road & ran to him. He was scared to death & wouldnt let me get too close at first. I called Animal Control & got an answering machine that said to leave a detailed message, so I did.
Anyways, I sat there with him in a highway ditch with gross water everywhere for nearly 45 minutes & still no word, so I called my wife (who was very close in our home) to bring me some gloves, a leash & a bag of treats.
He finally warmed up to me enough to let me pet him, then let me put the leash on him. So I finally got him back to our house then.
He had on a collar but no tags & was VERY well behaved & groomed. Which leads me to believe some heartless bastard who didn't want him anymore probably just ditched him on the side of the road.
Anyways, long story short. I kept him at my house that day & he & our 2 other dogs got along great. If I couldn't find a good home for him we had all intentions of keeping him, even though owning another dog was the last thing we need right now. One thing was for sure though, there was no way in hell I was gonna give him to just anyone, especially a kill shelter.
I noticed the little guy had some fleas & his ears were pretty red, so I took him to our Vet right away. We got him all fixed up, got his shots, etc & everyone there loved him & knew his story.
The Vet Tech said she was looking to get an inside dog soon, that she had 3 acres of fenced in land & already had one other dog. She wanted to be the dog's mommy. So, after drilling her with a few important questions, I thought she sounded sincere & it seemed like a really good fit. She even paid the Vet bill, which I was totally willing to do & wasn't expecting her to offer. That let me know that she truly cared for the little dog that had been through so much in his short life.
So, the little road dog has a new home now! We exchanged info so I can check up on him from time to time & can come visit him whenever I want (which I already have & he's doing great). Truly a fairy-tale ending. :) - jmnormand, on 01/30/2009, -0/+5few options:
1. give them to the amish - nice tax write off and i cant imagine the financial collapse hit the amish too hard.
2. set them free - sure they will just be eaten since they have no survival skills but think of the hungry wolves, crows, ect. that you will be saving.
3. dinner - if you cant afford to feed the horse how long before you cant afford to feed yourself?
4. donate it to science or a zoo - again another nice tax write off.
5. promote the resurgance of westerns - i mean when was the last time you saw a good western? they need lots of horses... - donsnyc, on 01/30/2009, -0/+5The comments on this thread are pretty idiotic.
- OLTP, on 01/30/2009, -0/+4Feed the homeless horses to the homeless people. 2 problems solved.
- nascentia, on 01/30/2009, -0/+4In other news, the price of glue dropped this week, and Elmer's stock rose 46%.
- seanstuart, on 01/30/2009, -0/+4Do you have any clue how much it costs to feed a horse?
- rozlovesben, on 01/30/2009, -5/+9are you ***** retarded? horses are wicked hard work. you are an *****
- BradOFarrell, on 01/30/2009, -1/+4My mom had just signed a deal to live on a ranch with her friend before the bailout, now they wanna renege on the deal, and she has like 10 horses and no where to go :/
- Middleleft, on 01/31/2009, -0/+2It is becoming impossible to sell horses for slaughter anymore in the USA. It is illegal to sell horses in the USA for human consumption (even if overseas). The auction barns are closing down because the meat buyers have left. When horses go unsold at the auction the owners leave them there and they get stuck with them. I know it sounds horrible but the ban on human consumption has caused much starvation and slow death of horses in the USA.
- inactive, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2On the upside, the homeless shelters are flush with fresh meat!
- GrammerPants, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2I am hungry enough to eat a horse, now I might be able to afford to try it.
- Rudegar, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2better make sure they don't get too hungry
http://www.demotivateus.com/posters/horses-eat-peo ... - adiggityam, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2Go now, boy! Run! You're free!
Seriously though, horse tastes great. - FXNGLAS, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2Dugg for sympathy of Mr. Ed.
- spottydog88, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2Another being suffering and starving to death really is some funny *****. Seriously, you made my day.
- Spacejack, on 01/30/2009, -1/+3Regard for life is a technological luxury.
- Davethe3rd, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2Your pony died because it wasn't pretty enough...
- bigtoes, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2If only you could house break them .
- GrammerPants, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2Meat is meat. A least it would have some use, rather then being put down like a stray dog or cat. Hmmmm that actually just gave me another idea.
- Daxx22, on 01/30/2009, -0/+2Too many "I want a PONY!" for Christmas purchases.
- LUCCHINA, on 01/29/2009, -4/+6I didn't realised...
- protodon, on 01/30/2009, -1/+2They should just set them free and let them be Wyld Stallyns!!!!
- mcquitty, on 01/30/2009, -4/+5That and Congress passed a law no longer allowing horses to be sold for meat. Now, these animals are going to be made to suffer a long, miserable existance and die in harsher ways than a slaughter house. Thanks, PETA.
- fuhcough, on 01/30/2009, -1/+2dug for the PSA. ;)
- mcquitty, on 01/30/2009, -0/+1Yes, maybe they can evolve into unicorns and make children the world over happy.
- BorsKaegel, on 01/30/2009, -0/+1That is why they are sold and taken to Mexico for slaughter.
- inactive, on 01/30/2009, -3/+4it didn't neglect mine, i just ate it.
- AlbinoRaven, on 02/02/2009, -0/+1In other news, glue factories realizing record profits
- johnomaz, on 01/30/2009, -1/+2Help world hunger, slaughter the animal and sell its meat. There are a lot of countries that eat horse regularly. Or let them run wild again as they used to. When their food supply in the wild gets smaller, they will slowly die off and the population will regulate itself.
- seanstuart, on 01/30/2009, -1/+2No, you can't have a pony!
- papavb, on 01/30/2009, -0/+1this is a sad story, but it only makes me think of a Frankie Boyle Joke, saying that Amy Winehouse looks like a poster-girl for neglected horses
- Rudegar, on 01/30/2009, -0/+1leave the attempted homeowners ALONE! :P
- gdha, on 01/30/2009, -0/+1Hopefully this guy continues to fail in life.
- spyd3rweb, on 01/30/2009, -0/+1Well ***** how can i get one.
- dan1101, on 01/31/2009, -0/+1Well bless your heart.
- BlatheringIdiot, on 01/31/2009, -0/+1Why the skinny face...
- bandoni, on 01/30/2009, -0/+1we aren't bad people, horse are bad people...
- DeucesWild, on 01/30/2009, -0/+1Beat me to it. First thing I thought when I saw the title was that the glue business must be doing pretty good. Though whether or not they still use horses I don't know.
- DeucesWild, on 01/30/2009, -0/+1My horse has been neglected since I have a Mammoth mount and an Albino Drake too.
- PrincePickle, on 01/30/2009, -0/+1Dugg for a cool picture
- jmnormand, on 01/30/2009, -0/+1im sorry hunny but their are starving children in detroit. dont you want to save the children?
- islandlife, on 02/01/2009, -0/+0shows how truly freaking arrogant people really are. I can't feed my responsibility. WTF. For those that feel killing and consuming such a noble creature GFYS!
- fairbetty, on 01/30/2009, -2/+2people need to take responsibility for their choices. If they choose to own a horse, they are responsible for its welfare, even if it is a hardship. There are options besides letting animals starve to death.
- skiloup, on 01/30/2009, -0/+0Same problems in north central Washington state. A lot of the local Native American population are just dropping their horses off on the side of the road. The number of "wild" horses is greatly increasing, and it's actually a pretty sad deal as the winters are pretty brutal on a previously domesticated animal.
