'Honor Killing' in Jordan: Women Murdered Under Lenient Laws
middle-east-online.com — In Jordan, between 15 and 20 women are murdered annually in the name of "honour" and at least eight such killings have been reported so far this year, according to Jordanian authorities. Judges, lawyers, activists and experts agree that in most cases men exploit lenient honor killing laws to murder women for inheritance or to hide other crimes.

- dunyasi, on 09/05/2008, -4/+6Middle East; a place where time doesn't move forward, but only backward.
It is year 2008, as most of the world moves forward with both societal advancements and recognizance of human rights, the middle east is still bound to traditions and religions that have kept them in a time vortex of the dark ages. A time vortex where traditions once practiced and enforced in the dark ages flourishes with no sign of halting.
I said this in another thread and I shall repeat it again; I am ashamed to have any middle easternish origin-of-today but that of the past such as: Cyrus the great, even though his legacy is dead in the country where it was born, it seems to have been picked up elsewhere on the planet.
Cyrus the great:
http://www.iranchamber.com/history/cyrus/cyrus_cha ...
"Cylinder is the first charter of right of nations in the world. It is a baked-clay cyliner in Akkadian language with cuneiform script. This cylinder was excavated in 1879 by the Assyro-British archaeologist Hormuzd Rassam in the foundations of the Esagila (the Marduk temple of Babylon) and is kept today in the British Museum in London."
Rather than human rights flourishing in the middle east, where the first charter of rights was born, it has malnourished into violent patriarchal societies where certain practices are banned and punishable by death;
Homosexuality
Drinking
Oppression of women
Widely practice of the death penalty
etc
etc
etc- CryRightardCry, on 09/05/2008, -3/+3Well, the opression of homosexuals and women and the love of the death penalty sound like the GOP.
- Pitofdoom, on 09/06/2008, -0/+3What some call love others call perversion.
But I guess not subscribing to a liberal view
automatically makes others evil.
Oppression of woman started when ?
Some crimes deserve the death penalty,
unless we can stack them at your house.
Support murdering millions of babies and your
called a progressive, oppose it and your evil.
- Pitofdoom, on 09/06/2008, -0/+3What some call love others call perversion.
- badgethefarmer, on 09/06/2008, -0/+3very.. very, good point.
- CryRightardCry, on 09/05/2008, -3/+3Well, the opression of homosexuals and women and the love of the death penalty sound like the GOP.
- motters, on 09/05/2008, -0/+12There is nothing remotely honorable about murdering members of your own family.
- DubiousDrewski, on 09/06/2008, -0/+3That's why I stick to strangers!
- AgmLauncher, on 09/05/2008, -2/+7If the middle east were like digg, killing your wife would get you dugg, and she would get buried. See what I did there?
- CryRightardCry, on 09/05/2008, -5/+1Tried to be funny and failed?
Yeah, we see.

- Ninh, on 09/05/2008, -1/+6"Honor" killers should be buried alive sewn into a pig's skin, that's about the only honor they deserve.
- Stevanoski, on 09/05/2008, -5/+3And these are the Democrats heroes?
- reland1, on 09/05/2008, -1/+2HRC Prince El Hassan Bin Talal...president of the forward thinking "Club of Rome" is His Royal Highness of Jordan too...what a coinkydink!
- Kizilbash, on 09/06/2008, -2/+3And here we are again, it's Digg's favourite fascist Stevanoski's favourite strawman. You know who has been supporting fundamentalist radicals for decades in the Middle East? Saudi Arabia, with the support of the US right, who thought they were the perfect antidode for the Arab left. Especially during the reign of the US right's big hero Ronald Reagan the US cooperated intensively with Saudi Arabia, not only to fund the 'freedom fighters' like Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan but to support the Muslim Brotherhood against leftists everywhere. Meanwhile Israel was supporting Hamas (the Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood) against the secular Fatah and the Marxist PFLP and DFLP. http://www.amazon.com/Devils-Game-Unleash-Fundamen ...
- Pitofdoom, on 09/06/2008, -0/+1Well whom every and for what ever reasons America supported or opposed, it all turned to ***** !
There ain't no way of fixing evil little allah boy !! - Stevanoski, on 09/06/2008, -0/+2Kizi, appreciate you for stopping your stalking of Menorah and other Jewish Women posters. Wish other Arabs would do the same. Hmmm, Nazi? Oh, yeah, it's used for everyone you disagree with so has lost all meaning.
- Pitofdoom, on 09/06/2008, -0/+1Well whom every and for what ever reasons America supported or opposed, it all turned to ***** !
- GreyMalkin, on 09/06/2008, -6/+2What's the problem? We should always respect customs and practices of other countries. Are we to take away the woman's right to bring honor to their own families?
- DubiousDrewski, on 09/06/2008, -1/+6I'm confused. Though maybe not as confused as you.
- Pitofdoom, on 09/06/2008, -0/+3I wish more murders, rapist and child molesters wished to die with honor, so we wouldn't have to spend so much money and time in the courts !
But then that would shrink the size of prisons
and speed up justice.
- Haoie, on 09/06/2008, -1/+3This happens from time to time among Islamic communities in the west too, unfortunately.
- th3heretic, on 09/06/2008, -0/+3For shame.
- Pitofdoom, on 09/06/2008, -1/+3allah wants the honor of killing you too....
