Home Owner Shoots Burglar
charlotteobserver.com — The homeowner told police he had returned home and saw a black Dodge Stratus in his driveway. The side door of the home also had been kicked in.Deputy Chief David Graham said the home's owner went inside the residence where he confronted the intruder and ordered him to lay down. The burglar instead moved toward the homeowner and was shot.

You can bet the rate of burglaries will drop in Charlotte! - Christianptriot, on 09/04/2008, -0/+8How STUPID would the DA be for even considering bringing charges against the home owner for defending himself and his property form someone who obviously had NO regard for the law in the first place?
If we had MORE chalk outlines on the streets and sidewalks of American communities - outlines of dead bad guys killed in the commission of a crime - there would definitely be FEWER crimes in our country.
More laws will not stop those who already break the ones we have. A growing body count of former, now-deceased, criminals WILL!- cashman57, on 09/04/2008, -0/+5I agree completely. In Wichita Kansas a few years ago three burglaries were stopped by armed homeowners in one night. The number of burglaries dropped substantially after that.
- neoneddy, on 09/04/2008, -0/+4I'm surprised at the early reaction of the digg community. I was thinking I'd see comments like " The home owner should have called the cops and hid at the neighbor's house." Although nothing wrong with doing those things, I also agree with the previous commentors, nothing wrong with letting some lead fly.
- cashman57, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3I kind of expected some people to respond that what the homeowner had done was wrong as well.
Glad to see it didn't happen. The people of Charlotte will be safer as a result of this event.
Many years ago Colorado passed a "Make my day" law that spelled out the right of a person to use lethal force against an intruder. It took out the law that said you had to be in fear of your life.Since then dozens of people have stopped burglaries, most of the time they didn't have to fire a shot.

- BillE3, on 09/04/2008, -0/+6As long as we "run and hide at the neighbors", criminals will continue to victimize us. They will laugh at the fear and cowering, gaining more confidence to victimize more people. Look at the huge increase in armed and strong arm robberies in San Fransicko, over 40 a day. Nothing happens to the criminals and they just rampage even more. Now they are terrorizing the mass transit buses, subway and trains.
