Holy Moses! PBS documentary suggests Exodus not real
orlandosentinel.com — The program says the Bible was written in the 6th century BC; that hundreds of authors contributed. "At least the first five books of the Bible come together during the Babylonian exile," says producer Gary Glassman. "Abraham, Sarah and their offspring probably didn't exist," says Carol Meyers, a religion prof at Duke University.

- Christianptriot, on 07/23/2008, -3/+14I absolutely GUARANTEE that if PBS were to produce and air a documentary by someone that claimed that muhammed was a anti-Christian pedophile and not really a prophet (I know, that is true, but go along with this for a moment...) the muslim community would not only demand it be removed form the program schedule, but also demand public apologies from PBS, along with a large cash settlement and the airing of some muslim-produced propaganda piece about how great muhammed really was.
AND the ACLU would help them in their case.
BUT since this is against Christianity, it is OK for our tax dollars to go to a program that slams Christian beliefs.
Think the ACLU will take this one on for the Christian community?!?- allisonrose870, on 07/23/2008, -1/+13This program isn't just against Christianity, but the three major religions of the world. If there's no Abraham, then there's no Judaism and Islam as well.

Petition Text
TO MEMBERS OF CONGRESS
In light of PBS's decision to air "The Bible's Buried Secrets," I ask that you vote to stop funding PBS with tax dollars. PBS should raise its own money. I should not be forced to help pay for its programs. - Temlakos, on 07/23/2008, -0/+14So they say that the Bible was written in the 6th century BC, eh? Did that include Daniel? Funny--did you know that Daniel predicted the conquest of the Middle East by Alexander the Great? And the episode in which Antiochus IV Epiphanes of Syria defiled the Temple with a pig? And for that matter, Daniel left a complete time frame leading to Jesus Christ.
Now those guys have got to get their stories straight.
Anyway, we don't have to be afraid of "modern science" anyway. The no-God model is getting more difficult to explain with nearly every new observation in a lot of disciplines, including astronomy. So if those guys think they can discredit the Bible, I'd say they're about eighty years too late.- drachemorder, on 07/23/2008, -1/+7"So they say that the Bible was written in the 6th century BC, eh? Yes. They actually try to date Daniel to the time of Antiochus for that very reason. It's a circular argument: they claim Daniel must have been written late because there's no such thing as genuine prophecy; then they try to use the late date for Daniel to claim that it can't be genuine. If you accept that real prophecies exist, however, there's no real reason to date Daniel later than the events it describes.
The Christian point of view, after all, is that the Bible is the word of God, and that it does contain numerous examples of real prophecy. Therefore, if the goal of the skeptic is to counter the claims that the Bible is God's Word, he cannot logically use research grounded on the assumption that the Bible is not God's Word.

- Evilena, on 07/23/2008, -5/+4Why does Duke University have a religion professor in the first place?
Do they also have an alchemy department? - mortification71, on 07/31/2008, -0/+3General Patton urged his troops that where fighting in the middle east to study their Bibles: BECAUSE he stated that if there are water holes mentioned and topographical information in their Bible that troops could be assured that the information was , not only 100% accurate, but STILL accurate. That includes the Book of Exodus.
No soldier ( or archaeologist) ever contradicted the General's summation with evidence to the contrary. Soldiers bet their lives on the accuracy of the information and where never disappointed. I wonder if these geniuses that dispute the Biblical Book of Exodus would bet their lives on the accuracy of their fictitious information.
No one can show a single archaeological fact that directly CONTRADICTS a single historical observation of the Book of Exodus. These critics are frauds seeking a name for themselves.
