- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -4/+7Glynth I have never denied that the Nazis executed prisoners at Auschwitz. I am certain that the records of 45 -50 people being executed in one day are accurate. I doubt that it had anything to do with celebrating Hitler's birthday.
The evidence provided in the documentary does not support the claim that 1.5 million people were gassed to death. Instead we have truly extensive documentation that people died of a number of causes -periodic execution, typhus epidemic, etc. - but the only evidence of gassing is the oral testimony of a few prisoners. The documentation recently released does not corroborate any of this oral testimony.
Here is a direct quote from the article that accompanied this video that confirms this claim:
"While the Nazis did not write down the names of those executed in the gas chambers at places like Auschwitz, they did keep detailed records of millions of others who died in the camps."
Some of the stuff borders on journalistic malpractice. The facility that built the V2/1 rockets is not a "death camp" by any historian's accounting. No one left that place alive because of the allied bombardment! Similarly no holocaust historian accepts the accounts of living people being stuffed into a crematorium, but that is vaguely implied in the oral testimony.
The medical records documenting the presence of head lice on the bodies of the deceased is evidence of a typhus epidemic. It is a known fact that unlike the Allies, Germany did not have DDT or antibiotics to treat typhus.
These deaths are tragic and many are unjust, but the way it is portrayed is irresponsible. - inactive, on 04/08/2009, -3/+5The forensic evidence to support the oral testimony simply doesn't hold togewther too well. I can provide ample resources to back up my claim. You offer no resources to back up yours.

Your description here makes it seem like you're trying to prove the Nazis executed people at Auschwitz, but your comment in another thread that refers to this video [1] and the shout in your Digg history that points to this submission [2] make it seem like you're downplaying the Holocaust... and give the dubious number 1.5 million, when far more than that were murdered. What are you saying?

[2] You shouted "Not quite 1.5M, is it?" - Glynth, on 04/08/2009, -2/+3Well, at least we've clarified it - you are indeed one of that insidious group that metaphorically jabs yourselves (and all comers you can get your hands on) in the eyes to prevent yourselves from seeing what you don't want to see. The real evidence is overwhelming, it's not a partisan thing, it comes from far more than a few prisoners (and more than just prisoners in general), and it's far more than just witness accounts, but I won't bother wasting my time yelling at you about it; that'd be like talking to a brick wall (or worse).
