- Oppslagsverk, on 05/16/2008, -22/+5This is truly tragic. However they should be happy the quake didn't hit some of the bigger cities harder.
- mal1964, on 05/16/2008, -2/+11"they should be happy"?
- Oppslagsverk, on 05/16/2008, -3/+2Compare 50 000 dead against several hundred thousand dead. Maybe happy isn't the right word but you understand.
- mal1964, on 05/16/2008, -2/+11"they should be happy"?
- bosssmiley, on 05/16/2008, -0/+29Damn that's sobering. Compared to those poor people I have exactly *nothing* to complain about in life.
- Tr33fiddy, on 05/16/2008, -2/+5Great comment at the bottom of the page,
"We should forget political wranglings and every country should send troops to help. They are people after all."
The US send 25,000 marines into mainland China - it can only end well.- mal1964, on 05/16/2008, -3/+5"We should forget political wranglings"
America does when help is needed.- CryRightardCry, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3America's "help" is usually a piddling amount compared to other countries.
We rarely help in proportion to our size and money.
- CryRightardCry, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3America's "help" is usually a piddling amount compared to other countries.
- Agenda, on 05/16/2008, -0/+6How about the comment that doesn't make any sense:
"How sick to poke a camera in someone's face when they are trying to cope with such a horrendous tragedy...."
Oh really? - goldfishey, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3Australia offered to help I believe, and china turned them down. I dont know if they have changed their mind since then.
- mal1964, on 05/16/2008, -1/+1I suppose they need a "Plan Of Action " in place before excepting every offer for help. To much help without a plan can be very chaotic and sloppy.
- diggimator, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2China took 5 days until they accepted aid from Japan. Myanmar is less responsive, even though 78,000 died there according to the latest statistic.
- mal1964, on 05/16/2008, -3/+5"We should forget political wranglings"
- jackieokennedy, on 05/16/2008, -1/+35I just love the classy coherence between the article and the side news on the website.

'I can't concentrate in flat shoes,' explains high-heel addict Victoria Beckham- flashback99, on 05/16/2008, -0/+5The daily mail exists to sell newspapers. Not to deliver news. "if it bleeds it leads".
Thanks Rupert.

- diargasm, on 05/16/2008, -28/+2There are so many Asians in the world, I just don't think people in general really care.
- haydesigner, on 05/16/2008, -0/+7Is it really possible for someone to be this ignorant of their own racism?
- diargasm, on 05/16/2008, -5/+2You're the one being ignorant to be quite frank. Had this happened in the West it would be all over the news, but 50k Chinese is like a drop in the bucket. It's just a fact. If a fact has to do with race it equals racist?
- Tr33fiddy, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3The reason 50,000 died is because the country is massively over-populated and under developed.
The reason it would be all over the news if it happened here is because local news and disasters are more relevant to the local country.
The reason you don't care is because you're a *****. - diargasm, on 05/16/2008, -1/+250,000 is a lot of people and China is a BIG country - not a backwards state. If this happened in the West it would be all over our news. Not just in America.
- goldfishey, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2if the fact of race, is irrelevant to the question/decision at hand, then yes it is racist.
Your statement is that generally(meaning the majority of the relevant sample, lets say everyone who has heard about it.) people don't care that a large number of people are dead or suffering because their Asian. Your justification for this statement is "because there are a lot of Asians"
I suggest that people who do, or do not care, based on ethnicity have elevated the importance of ethnicity above all other considerations. In my culture, ethnicity has no practical relevance to this kind of decision so yes - I would define you as a racist. At the very least deeply prejudicial.
Look at it this way - Had this happened in the west, a whole bunch of white people (among others) would be dead and suffering - but there are plenty of those in the world, so who would care? - diargasm, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1I said "they don't really care" not "they don't care at all". I don't know what your "culture" is, maybe it's so awesome and advanced I could not possibly comprehend or understand it.
Anyways... If it happened in the West (where most of the modern world resides) we (in the West) would care. - rexuslexus, on 05/16/2008, -0/+0Just take a step back.... deep breath... and walk away. You are now a racist. You can join the rest of your ilk at your local watering hole laughing about human death and suffering.
Let's tear apart your comment for a second.
"they don't really care" compared to "they don't care at all" aren't far apart from each other in definition. Really, it's your label that defines what your mindset believes. Frankly, anytime innocent people suffer with either sickness, death, or famine I am deeply moved.
"where most of the modern world resides"...... Boy, it took me awhile to stop laughing at you. If it happened in the West, FEMA would take like 10 days to start streaming in aid. If it happened in the West, we would have Anderson Cooper doing an on-the-scene weekly report on the devastation of the great quake.
Frankly, I think more people care about the China earthquake than any western disaster. Why? Because of people like you... Prejudicial, racist, and suppremist minded tools.
- Tr33fiddy, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3The reason 50,000 died is because the country is massively over-populated and under developed.
- diargasm, on 05/16/2008, -5/+2You're the one being ignorant to be quite frank. Had this happened in the West it would be all over the news, but 50k Chinese is like a drop in the bucket. It's just a fact. If a fact has to do with race it equals racist?
- Agenda, on 05/16/2008, -1/+5Is that why so much humanitarian and monetary aid and help is being offered by nations around the world, even China's rivals like US?
Following that same strand of logic, I could just kill you and use the excuse that there are another 6 billion people out in the world, so the law shouldn't really care.
You're really a bigot. Blocked and reported.- diargasm, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1I never said they deserved it. You are missing the point. The big thing on the news is still Hillary Clinton mentioning "white people" or the NBA playoffs.
- flashback99, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Don't know if someone should be blocked and reported for being stupid. It wasnt like he was RepubOperative, or someone equally willfully ignorant.
- diargasm, on 05/16/2008, -2/+1I know blocking someone on digg is like the equivalent of putting your fingers inside your ears and yelling "nananannahaha I can't hear you !" and then topping it off with "im telling on you!" What a bitch - even on the internet.
- koft, on 05/16/2008, -2/+1"Blocked and reported", lol. What a loser. Do you report every dumb ***** post you don't like? Do you think digg staff is going to drive to the guys house and spank his bottom?
- dcollantes, on 05/16/2008, -2/+1Truly idiotic. Let us kill you, we have many idiots anyway... Arse!
- haydesigner, on 05/16/2008, -0/+7Is it really possible for someone to be this ignorant of their own racism?
- nubela, on 05/16/2008, -11/+1***** u.
- flashback99, on 05/16/2008, -0/+6..earthquake.
- ahpro, on 05/16/2008, -8/+2This hasn't been on the news even nearly as much as it would've been had this been in america.
- haydesigner, on 05/16/2008, -1/+2Well, no ***** sherlock.
Local news is always more interesting.
Do you think the Chinese papers are full of all of our political news? - zadadka, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Can't decide whether your comment is ignorant or arrogant......
- haydesigner, on 05/16/2008, -1/+2Well, no ***** sherlock.
- broodking, on 05/16/2008, -6/+1i wonder what will happen to the Olympics
- dcollantes, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3The Olympics will go on.
- yaosio, on 05/16/2008, -9/+5Bush, this is all on you. You could have stopped it, but refused to do so.

- sergiodlopes, on 05/16/2008, -1/+7FTA:
"Three days before disaster struck, thousands of toads appeared on the streets of Mianzhu city, where 2,000 have been reported dead. And hours before, zoo animals in Wuhan began acting bizarrely. British tourists said moments before the quake struck the pandas they were watching at the world famous Wolong reserve became agitated.
[...]
However, seismologists say it is practically impossible to predict when and where an earthquake will strike."
WTF?! Is it REALLY that impossible?!- yingjai, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2so true. dogs, horses, and other animals will behave strangely shortly before quakes, but you would have to know what you're looking for. i guess if all the dogs in the neighbourhood start barking their heads off, it's time to run for cover.
- sergiodlopes, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2"but you would have to know what you're looking for"
Sure, and lots of years of study is needed, but its not impossible.
SDL
- sergiodlopes, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2"but you would have to know what you're looking for"
- udteahill, on 05/17/2008, -1/+1It IS that IMPOSSIBLE! So if I predict that your place will have an earthquake in two months because some strange signs happened. What will you do? Will you believe it?
- yingjai, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2so true. dogs, horses, and other animals will behave strangely shortly before quakes, but you would have to know what you're looking for. i guess if all the dogs in the neighbourhood start barking their heads off, it's time to run for cover.
- DailyWail, on 05/16/2008, -5/+0DailyMail exploiting for sales again, buried.
- topace3000, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Didn't seem like a particularly bad article to me.
- lopla, on 05/16/2008, -8/+3What?! These are not HDR Photos! have they not read Digg's TOS??! All posts on Digg must be HDR! They didn't even get the title right "Haunting"??? Try HDR and "Amazing" "Spectacular" or "Stunning" otherwise stop posting!!
- davidkeithjones, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Seriously, troll somewhere else. Maybe you can go find yourself some HDR 9/11 photos while your at it. Ass.
- homerjs, on 05/16/2008, -7/+1The Almighty tells me he can get me out of this one, but he's pretty sure you're *****
- Fast05GT, on 05/16/2008, -2/+0sad.
- dinxcarin, on 05/16/2008, -6/+1so sad...I can only pray...:(

- typeshige, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1There are two shots with troops and somehow both show someone waving a big red Chinese flag. Shouldn't they be doing something more productive? Just saying...
- oMeSSiaHo, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3We waved flags after 9/11. It could be a show of solidarity, a sign the country is there to help, who knows. When dealing with that level of horror people will grasp many things to make them feel comfortable.
- electronixtar, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2Just sick of westerners commenting China.
