mugglenet.com — Scholastic, the US publisher of the Harry Potter books, has released the cover art for the deluxe edition of the American "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." According to Scholastic, it is "set during a highly dramatic sunset, Harry, Hermione, and Ron--clothes in tatters--cling atop a flying dragon."

I wonder if it will see a deluxe release? Perhaps an extended photo of a coffee table? - tehpwnrate, on 10/11/2007, -23/+2Hermione is Harry's sister
- cankillar, on 10/11/2007, -8/+2@tehpwnrate
I don't remember reading that part. - zybch, on 10/11/2007, -7/+3Is it a luck dragon?

- tehpwnrate, on 10/11/2007, -9/+0@cankillar
...no crap. It wouldn't be the twist in the final book if she had said so before. Look for the clues, do some research, and you'll arrive at the inescapable conclusion :) - esotericguy, on 10/11/2007, -7/+4hmm.......i wonder if the dragon is Hagrids Norbort?
- esotericguy, on 10/11/2007, -8/+25Cant wait till this book hits PirateBay!
- tavisjohn, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8@esotericguy
I will probably have the whole book read before it hit's The Pirate Bay. - NickMilne, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Hermione's clothes in tatters = instant classic
Or wait, this isn't the movie - Squar3d, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0I love the digg comments that have to do with Harry Potter, because the entire Digg community will admit to liking Harry Potter, but anyone whose comment says anything in depth about the book that you actually have to be a fan to know, gets dugg down.
The first 2 comments that were actually in the Plus-side of the Digg-system, were about illegally downloading it before it came out.
That's the digg community for ya'. - nickdngr, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2@Anrkist
The cover in question may actually be one of the alternate covers for an "adult" version...same text, just a less kid-oriented cover so adults can carry the book on the subway or train without looking like they're reading children's book. I remember reading about the alternate covers for the first 5 books a bit back, maybe a year or so ago... - vertinox, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Okay... lets start taking bets on what happens in the end of the book:
1. No one dies and everyone lives happily ever after including Voldermort who recants his evil ways
2. Snape dies saving Harry life, Harry kills Voldermort
3. Harry kills Snape and Voldermort
or
4. J.K. Rowling kills off Harry because she doesn't want some hack job making a mockery of her work when the publisher demands more Harry Potter books - qwerty1024, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1@NickMilne
No but it will eventually. And by that time, she should be around 20yo ;)
- Anrkist, on 10/11/2007, -16/+6This is still the best cover:
- jdh24, on 10/11/2007, -8/+2thats definitely norbert or whatever that dragon was from the first book
- JonRohan, on 10/11/2007, -6/+24Harry... you're a dragon rider.
- Eowyn47, on 10/11/2007, -11/+1LOL! Yes, Harry is officially a dragon rider! hehe This artwork ROCKS!
- GoddessAgwe, on 10/11/2007, -9/+0ROTFL that's what i thought too at first. he better start learning the ancient language now...
- tehpwnrate, on 10/11/2007, -27/+1Harry... you're Hermione's brother.
- speaker219, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Tehpwnrate... you have already said that
- jas7, on 10/11/2007, -12/+1eragon ahem i mean harry, check your palm for a white mark
- JRRC, on 10/11/2007, -7/+8In my opinion the dragon CAN be Norbert, but i think it fits perfectly the description of a Chinese Fireball (taken form Fantastic Beasts and were to Find Them): "The only oriental dragon has a particularly striking appearance. Scarlet and smooth-scaled, it has a fringe of golden spikes around its snub-snouted face and extremely protuberant eyes.". We'll have to wait for DH and see!
- melissanc09, on 10/11/2007, -14/+1Awesome! Dragon Riding looks fun eh? i hope they dont like get hurt or something. I think that would suck majorly if they fall off of it haha. i was j/w why they would be riding it though, it looks like there is a village down there but idk which one. maybe hogsmeade? Cuz i was thinking that hogsmeade is close to hogwarts and Voldemort loved hogwarts so he might have hid a horcrux somewhere near there. Ok love the post!
- rcomegys, on 10/11/2007, -6/+4I imagine the village is Godric's Hollow, where Harry's parents were killed, and the basis for the title "... the Deathly Hollows".
- nighthawk8713, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8I don't think the book is named for Godric's Hollow. The title is Deathly Hallows, not Hollows. A hollow is a depression like a valley, whereas hallow is to honor or revere.
- Eaglesplyr32, on 10/11/2007, -8/+1I think they are riding Norbert after the wedding where they met Charlie and now are off to Godric's Hollow. Ron and Hermoine are with him because school either hasnt started or will not open. The mist symbolizes the presence of the Dark arts and Death Eaters. I am definitely buying the deluxe edition!!
- Dramadigg, on 10/11/2007, -7/+1eaglesplr, then why would their clothes be torn?? usally you dress up for a wedding and not in tatters!
unless something happened at the wedding which they're fleeing from, but that not very heroic. - GoddessAgwe, on 10/11/2007, -16/+2I forgot to say this this morning--i commented first!! yay!!
but anyway.
did anyone notice that there are, not one, but TWO rivers? and that they meet after the village? i think that is of some importance. the only place i can think of off the top of my head is the Tigris and Euphrates, but that's in the middle east. but hey, maybe the go to where Hagrid got the dragon egg in the first place...where there are more illegal dragon egg-sellers. but all i know is that i cannot wait to read the book!!- GoddessAgwe, on 10/11/2007, -13/+0to dxx3:
Go kill myself? sorry honey, but, much to many others' dismay, i have a love of life that no one can stop. and i plan on living forever. so far, so good. - GoddessAgwe, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1honey, even if i were a mistake, i have seen wayy too many attempted suicides to try one myself. and i want to live. and i have learned that people like you are not worth...anything. and i would reciprocate what you said, but i am not that morbid and i believe that everyone has a chance. even you. though that chance may be slim.

- goldenhearted, on 10/11/2007, -8/+3My reaction once the pic loaded up:
HE'S RIDING ON A ****ING DRAGON!! - foresworn, on 10/11/2007, -8/+7I really hope that's Norbert!
- eezzzz, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2What does this have to do with an Eddie Murphy movie..?
- skitt09, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3I'm hoping it is Norbert it has got to be! Maybe possibly they needed help, and the trio needed the help from Norbert for some reason. And they needed to go to Norway or Romania, wherever Norbert was at, to retrieve him. But then theres the question why their clothes are all torn, which could possibly be from anything. Anything ranging from the trip to get Norbert, a duel, obstacles, etc. Whatever it is, if JKR brings Norbert back, I will be shocked but so happy!
- blakemcgill12, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2THATS A ***** DRAGON!!!!!!!!!!!
- Servekaos, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1That's one cracked out looking dragon.
- phOeniXfeath3r, on 10/11/2007, -18/+0I actually don't think it's a dragon - It's a thestral. I know that David Saylor said it was a dragon, but I looked at the picture more closely and realized that the "dragon" lacked pupils in its eyes, and thestrals are described as having completely white, pupil-less eyes. Does anybody else think it's a thestral?
- mbthompson, on 10/11/2007, -2/+32Um no, thestrals are horses, not dragons.
- reddevil3, on 10/11/2007, -14/+5omg omg omg omg omg omg omg harry potttttterrrrrrrrr!!!!!
-just kidding people, I am not that excited about the book.- GoddessAgwe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1dxx3, who tortured you as a small child that makes you want everyone to kill themselves?
- abbs866, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0I am that excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And dxx3, go kill YOURSELF.
- GoddessAgwe, on 10/11/2007, -9/+2OMG
I JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING!!!!
does anyone remember hogwart's motto? NEVER POKE A SLEEPING DRAGON. that dragon looks like it had been sleeping for thousands of years...and then someone woke it up. maybe not poked it, per se, but still. I NEED TO RANT ABOUT THIS TO SOMEONE!!!! withanicecoldeye- wllywst, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2That's never been said in the books. i've read them at least 4 times each.
- EztliNahua, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2@wllywst: Yes it has, and I have read them 9 times each, so I am right
- ataxiaverge, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titilandus
^ Hogwarts's motto - allan17, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6@dxx3
I don't think *anyone* on digg is getting any pussy. - rcomegys, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Yeah, and I sincerely doubt a guy who spends his time trolling around in comments for stories he cares nothing about, telling everyone to kill themselves, is getting any himself.
- Firehed, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I believe it's actually "never tickle a sleeping dragon", but interesting insane theory. wllywst - it's on all of the merchandise, and JKR has it on her website or said it in an interview or something. I doubt it'd come into play for that reason, though - it's never actually said in any of the books.
- hydratedsquash, on 10/11/2007, -7/+8Is that Trogdor? Will Harry burninate the countryside?
- honkaform, on 10/11/2007, -3/+23Wow. ADHD much?
(Majority of above comments)
- Renton, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3Is that his bankai or something? I heard he was fighting hollows this time around.
- xxTazxx, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1I love Bleach, but that was poor.

- thedarkrabbit, on 10/11/2007, -14/+7HOLY *****! CRAPPY ART!!! DIGG ME!! DIGG MEE!!!!!!!!!!!
- np374, on 10/11/2007, -2/+37I know it's gonna be hard, but I am going to refrain from being on digg let alone the Internet until I finish the book, because I know that some dick is going to spoil it in the comments.
- thedarkrabbit, on 10/11/2007, -3/+28@np374
Darth Vader is really Harry's father... Sorry. - radishes, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16Same here. Had the last one spoiled for me.
Works gonna suck till I finish... - gnalakalaciath5, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5it's okay, we have /b/ for that.
- Gir53457, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1oops

No, not THOSE two.

- consonance, on 10/11/2007, -4/+39Snape kills Captain America.
- benmorris, on 10/11/2007, -6/+20Voldemort dies of a massive heart attack on the second page. In the following ten pages all of his followers disband. In the next 700 odd pages Harry becomes an accountant and begins his corporate rise.
- illuzionmod, on 10/11/2007, -9/+0You people are freaking out over ugly art like that?? you are kidding me right?
- dn11, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6hrmm... i seem to remember a few thousand people freaking out over the fact that there was a single frame from an apple add showing an extra unknown, unseen button on the interface of the iphone... why are you surprised?
- pianonotes1010, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1I can't wait to read chapter 5
- Alucard90, on 10/11/2007, -7/+3SNAPE DIES SO HARRY CAN KILL VOLDEMORT WITHOUT DYING
- Squill, on 10/11/2007, -15/+1Who the ***** reads Harry Potter? How old are you people?
- phOeniXfeath3r, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Millions of people around the world read it. A better question would be "Who doesn't read Harry Potter?".
"Um no, thestrals are horses, not dragons."
You have a point - they are described as horselike, but they are also scaly, which makes them dragonlike as well. - mistarojaz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2thestrals are also black, and literally skin and bones, which still means that the thing in the picture is not a thestral.
- SEMW, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14> You have a point - they are described as horselike, but they are also scaly, which makes them dragonlike as well.
They are described as having "[the] skeletal body of a great, black, winged horse". "The body of a horse" pretty much means they're horses. That they may have a "dragonISH face" doesn't mean they *are* dragons, it's just a metaphor.
> Who the ***** reads Harry Potter?
Of the order of 100 million people, over 1% of the entire Earth's population.
> How old are you people?
Statistically, most likely 18-24 years old (source: http://ironic-pentameter.blogspot.com/2006/09/how-old-is-diggs-median-user.html)
- phOeniXfeath3r, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Millions of people around the world read it. A better question would be "Who doesn't read Harry Potter?".
- mintecarbon, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1i think snape was in love with lily potter!!
which explains why snape can't bring himself to kill harry in the previous books and also this:
from wikipedia:
"Now, the important thing about Harry's mother - the really, really significant thing - you're going to find out in two parts. You'll find out a lot more about her in book five, or you'll find out something very significant about her in book five, and you'll find out something incredibly important about her in book seven."
AND:
Rowling has long said that the fact that Harry's eyes resemble his mother's is "very important."
so, maybe snape will also stop voldemort from killing harry because he's lily's son... - RainbowApe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1nobody seems to have pointed out that the 2nd boy on the dragon isnt ginger enough to be ron, the girls obviously hermione...
1% of the world's population is still pretty good for a kids book tho.... - sweetdevil23, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0it is Ron, when they were desribing the cover,
"Scholastic, the US publisher of the Harry Potter books, has released the cover art for the deluxe edition of the American "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." According to Scholastic, it is "set during a highly dramatic sunset, Harry, Hermione, and Ron--clothes in tatters--cling atop a flying dragon."
there you go, RainbowApe. - jenel, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6No boobs, no digg.
- soccerman90, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4There is no reason in taking mongotheevil's comment seriously. Just digg him down
- TheKingOfHell, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Harry Potter himself is the last horcrux. inside him is the final piece of Voldemort's soul.
and I don't even read the books.- Schda, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Exactly what I've thought :) I'm rereading the books and that's what it points to. Ultimately I think Draco will end up having to kill Potter, due to the line in one of the books (think it's the fourth) where Dumbledore says that everyone will have to work together to defeat evil, even people who are enemies.... that's why Snape has to kill Dumbledore not Draco, so that he isn't pure evil, just a spoiled little brat :)

I love the fact that you're such a dumbass. - FallenOmen, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Isn't this the title thats causing all the controversy ..some where in the book a lead character gets DATE RAPED ..thats ***** up !
This is the last of the Potter Books and a lead character gets raped on a date.........ouch way to offend fans on the last send off ! - einnej, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1This book is going to be wicked. Can't wait.
And please, no "omg I can't believe you guys read harry potter" comments. Seriously, you'll just get dugg down - JDogg1329, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1harry potter rules, hey mugglenet.com!
- budiarso, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1OMG.. don't let JKR read these comments because if she does, the book's release date would be delayed!
it's because she'd have to write a *NEW* last chapter of the book, where a newborn villain named MongoTheEvil is being eaten up by the dragon. And the dragon would actually be an Animagus, of JKR herself.
wicked ain't it................. y'all want that to happen? - NutsRoyal, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0
http://maxmagnusnorman.com/artist_blog/art_day_261.shtml - DawningImage, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0So excited!!!! I also hope the dragon is Norbert. It can't be a chinese fireball, they are red. And therestrals are horse sized, only able to carry maybe two people.
- awesome15, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0OMG!! ive got the best theory!! Merope also had two daughters besides Tom Riddle. However we don't know who they are. I reckon it's Petunia and Lily. This means that Lily is the heir of Slytherin which means Harry is to. Lily has red hair just like Merope and it would explain why Lily has the same eyes as Harry who has the same Eyes as Voldemort! This would also explain why Harry can speak Parseltongue. However I think Harry is also the heir of Gryffindor as Harry got Godric Gryffindor's sword in the 2nd book and James and Lily used to live in Godric's Hollow! This means that Harry is the heir of Slytherin and the heir of Gryffindor! This is why Harry is so special and talented. This also explains why the Sorting Hat had so much trouble distinguishing between whether Harry should go to Slytherin or Gryffindor as he was the heir of both! This also means that Voldemort is Harry's uncle! Voldemort is also Lily's brother and Dudley's uncle. J.K Rowling said in the last book a non-magical character will use magic to protect themselves. This is Dudley! Probably when he gets attacked at his house now that the protection has worn off from Dumbledore. Think about it, there are so many reasons why Harry could be the heir of Slytherin and there is so may reasons why he can be the heir of Gryffindor. He is both!
Can someone please give me some feedback?
