Rejected Mortal Kombat Fatalities view!
youtube.com - The Mortal Kombat developers came up with all kinds of ideas for fatalities. These are the ones that didn't make the cut.

- mynameiscal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The artwork looks awesome, although I have to admit, the US version looks a bit less weird than our UK one...
The British one looks like a poster for the Goonies movie! - oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4huh, i just noticed (on the uk adult version) that jk rowling is not hard to look at, she's got a casual sexy thing going.
- Junkyarddawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4How can you hate what is basically a standard series of youth books with a standard Mary Sue in the lead?
Books don't get more inoffensive than that.
Actually I find the Harry Potter series interesting because it turns some Mary Sue conventions upside down; usually Mary Sues are downtrodden and have to struggle against and unfair world, but Harry Potter spends a few chapters of the first book downtrodden before wreaking terrible vengeance on his tormentors, then spends the rest of the books as a sort of Prince Harry on steroids: the richest person in the world, the most famous person in the world, the best athlete in the world, has unique superpowers, a cool scar, being mentored by Gandalf... I mean Dumbledore, the headmaster of the most prestigious magical school in the world, and he's repeatedly attacked by the biggest evil in the world (which he through his immense courage and resourcefulness repeatedly defeats).
Mary Sues are generally underdogs, to make you cheer for them, but Harry Potter is an overdog, to make you want to be him. - anidal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You'd be surprised at the number of people more eagerly awaiting the release of this book than awaiting troop pullout from Iraq.
- anidal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Could also be the font size being smaller in the UK version. I imagine going from 11pt to 9pt could easily account for a large percentage of the page discrepancy.
- anidal, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Dumbledore dies on page 596!
oh wait.. wrong book. - DGSK387, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2the US edition has more pages because the text is slightly larger than the UK version and also the little chapter pictures at the beginning of each chapter also take up space.
- quidditchmom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3If you go to scholastic, they have the full cover with Voldemort in the scene. It kind of looks like a Jedi standoff.
- anidal, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4With the percentage of diggers below the (mental) age of 12, you have most certainly committed online suicide. ;)
How dare you make fun of Harry Potter! Heresy I say. Burn the witches!... no wait. - mynameiscal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Pretty much! it's mainly commuters on the Tube who don't want to be seen reading a kids book!
Also it's bought by kids who think that the "adult" version has more sex in it.. - nixonrichard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Scholastic > Bloomsbury
- Anrkist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm so getting the adult version. Are "adults" in the UK really that boring?
- supertrombone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh my gosh!! I've been waiting forever for this announcement!! The color and picture on the US edition are completely amazing! Please make July come quickly!
- blahpro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1OMG.
They have a Stargate... - africansk8er, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, I don't really like the American version, too bright for me.
But the British version is fantasic. So many clues... - oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3direct link to the US high res version: http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/dhusfull.jpg
- mullens4mac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The dude on the Today show said he was sobbing at then end! SOBBING!
- jopari, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it's likely because the font used in the uk books is smaller than the us books.
- Dagreenman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The US version looks awesome (kudos to Grandpre), the UK adult version looks kinda bland but it gets the job done. the UK children's version looks like an old Atari 2600 game box. for a really ***** game. like ET.
- uvagirl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1God, i'm SO excited for this!
- BattleOnHamish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If that last paragraph is so, then Harry will never stop looking for those missing Horcruxes. And I really can't see a way for him to trust Snape at this point.
- SybilSE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Of course his scar is still there. It just looks like a shadow. I am not sure if anyone has thought of this yet or not but my first thought upon seing the colors in the US cover was "A new day is dawning" I think it is pretty obvious from the cover that Voldythingy will be defeated. I also think it signifys a new beginning for Harry. I think this cover is telling us that Harry is going to have a chance for a new life, free of scorn, free of being hunted, free to be happy and to love Ginny, to walk in the sunshine with Ron and Hermione. I really hope I am right.
- BattleOnHamish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wild guess: you read the first two books, at most.
- BattleOnHamish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, keeping that "eagerly" modifier in mind, that can't be anything but good.
- snowwrestler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My $0.02.
The U.S. cover depicts the Death Chamber in the Ministry of Magic - to which the title refers. This will be the where the climax of the book occurs.
Harry is shown throwing the Horcruxes through the curtain, which we (the viewers) are looking out the bottom of. (It's easier than destroying them each individually.) Voldemort is reaching to stop him. Harry's "missing" scar is simply hidden by his hair in the way this is painted.
The end game will be Harry vs. Voldemort, and after Voldemort kills a couple people, someone important will sacrifice themselves to take Voldemort through the curtain with them--again, easier than winning a direct wizard duel. We the readers will go with them and in doing so see the process by which a person becomes a ghost. My money's on Harry for the sacrifice and ghost. That way it's a tragic ending but Harry remains a character through to the last page (and forever presumably). It allows him to say goodbye, while at the same time firmly closing the door on the series, which Rowling has always been very firm about.
RAB is Regulus Black but it's not that important--he just happened to get one of the Horcruxes out of the cave because the key to get past the Horcrux defenses is the Dark Mark. He was killed unceremoniously after re-hiding the Horcrux among his family's possessions, where Harry will find it despite Kreacher's treachery.
Snape uses his Dark Mark to help retrieve another Horcrux or two from behind their defenses. But as always he acts alone and secretly, and Harry does not know and/or believe Snape helped him at all. Snape survives but in the end is trusted by no one--an outcast. - BattleOnHamish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Snape is an opportunist through and through, and for those who don't realize that soon, I'm afraid lightning will strike in the same place twice.
- Quellman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Where' s the cover for the illustrated version? Heh still working on it I guess.
- etandrib, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It is there. You just have to zoom and it looks like it is under his hair a little bit.
- BattleOnHamish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And there's an arena! Whether it's an actual arena or just a reference to the metaphor at the end of HBP, Chapter Twenty-Three, that kicks nine kind of ass.
- richbai90, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Im soooooooo excited!!!
"Harry has been burdened with a dark, dangerous, seemingly impossible task: that of locating and destroying Voldemort's remaining horcruxes. Never has Harry felt so alone, or faced a future so full of shadows. But harry must somehow find within himself the strength to complete the task which he has been given. He must leave the warmth, safety and companionship of the burrow and follow without fear or hesitation, the inexorable path laid before him." - teachingrocks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hadn't thought of Gringots. Interesting idea. I was thinking of the Room of Requirement, where all those items: junk, jewels, treasure, books, bottles, swords, cups, lockets, etc are hidden safely away. Dobby's pretty handy at acquiring needed objects.
- liz0loves0you, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It all has to do with the type-set and the actual size of the pages.
- tymeg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0US Cover -
Looks like Harry has something around his neck in a pouch. Maybe a horcrux? Also, it appears in the full-res cover that Harry is summoning his firebolt as Voldemort is reaching towards him. I don't see any wands. Is Voldemort trying to get what's around Harry's neck, or keep him from getting his broom? Some curtains are behind Voldemort (maybe where Sirius fell through?), and it appears there has been some destruction of wherever they are ( broken wood & pillars on the ground) They are inside some kind of arena, as it appears there are people watching the conflict in a row behind them. Looks like they may be in the room in the Department of Mysteries. And - is Harry's scar gone?!?
UK children's cover:
All those jewels - are they in Gringott's? Also, it looks as though Dobby, or some house elf (Kreacher? - doubtful) is on Harry's back brandishing the sword (thought it was Ron's hand at first). Is it Gryffindor's sword? Wherever they are - they look overwhelmed by the flying jewels & gold - thought Ron would be happier in that situation.
UK adult cover:
Obviously Slytherin's locket - the one that is missing. Evidence points to it being at Grimmauld Place (which fits in with RAB being Regulus Black), but was it one of the items that Mudungus pinched & sold?
Also - it has been confirmed that the UK version will have less pages because of font size - not because the version is shorter. - BookMasterJMV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Awesome news! All the covers look great, but I think the British adult one is my personal favorite. :)
- Melenna, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Alright, Jo. Come out now. Lmao. Good theory, I guess. But very few people know for sure at this point... ;)
- AndyButz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0YES!!!!!! I can't wait!!!!!!!
- raowen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I really like the artwork for both versions! But.. on the US.. where is his scar??????
- EricCiccone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Have to say, I think the American cover art is much better that England's.
- Junkyarddawg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1World News?
- Silvianoshei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I really hope you are too.
- AeirethAmara, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bah. Part of my comment got cut off:
I was also a little confused when I saw the UK children's version, for a couple reasons. I am going to assume that all of that "treasure" is also a clue, but I have no freakin' idea what. And, secondly, who is that clinging to Harry's back, holding the sword? Dobby? - abbs866, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Seriously, they talk about all this in MuggleCast. If you aren't a big enough fan to listen to that, then you have no right to make assumptions.
(Just kidding) - phillysixers357, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm shocked that no one has yet noticed this. . . either that or you just haven't bothered posting it . . but hasn't anyone seen the UK Childerns Cover? Notice toward the bottom of the front cover, there is a shiny blue-colored object with a phoenix or dragon on top, i couldn't decide what it was. Anyway, if you look farther left, directly under Ron's foot, there is another shiny blue-colored object. It took me a minute or two to realize what this was. It is armor, probably a chest/back guard. On the chest guard, there is some sort of an animal, but whether it is a phoenix or snake, I'm not sure. That lead me back to the original item, which I then quickly recognized to be a helmet. Also, the jules on the helmet match those of the sword. Could this be the armor of Godric Gryffindor? That would make sense, but I could be wrong.
Another thing i noticed is how the medallion on the UK adults cover (which is undoubtably Slitheren's) had the S on it. But the S looks like a two headed snake. This theme repeats itself constantly through the books. The two headed snake is shown again in the UK childrens cover, on the side flap. In an orb, there is a two headed snake. Harry and Voldemort are almost like a two headed snake, in that they have a very strong connection.
I could be wrong on all this, but it's very interesting . . . - teachingrocks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Anidal,
At least there is an end in sight for the Harry Potter Series. The same cannot be said about US involvement in Iraq. And when the world is a messed up as it is, an escape into the fantasy world of Harry Potter is a very welcome relief. - inactive, on 12/03/2007, -0/+0Cheapest and the best data recovery service in the world.

Flight Attendant Interview -
http://www.flightattendanttrainingonline.com/mustk ... - Keakealani, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0On the one hand, I'm really glad that the cover art was released, and I'll have plenty of time to mull over exactly what is so significant about it (or at least guess) between now and the time that I actually finish the book. On the other hand, it worries me slightly. It seems, quite honestly, a bit too /happy/ for the context of the book. There's no doubt that DH will be sad and emotional; everything that's been released so far points to something with a bittersweet end at the most. Yet the warm colours and triumphant look on Harry's face seems to contradict that information. Thus, I'm not sure what to think, exactly. Is this art just to prevent younger kids from being scared of reading the book before it begins? Is it a hint that it's really a very happy ending and everything turns out well? I don't know, and I'm sure we won't know.
Otherwise, it's very interesting to compare this cover art with the British version, which is a very different scene...I don't know what comments I have on that yet, though. - ManlyChef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Judging by the UK cover, I'm guessing one of the Horcruxes is in Gringott's, and Harry, Ron and Hermione will have to break in to get it. As to Snape, I'm guessing he's playing both ends against the middle - "Those cunning folk will use any means to acheive their ends".
- mugglemom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So, is that the horcrux around Harry's neck? Or what? And, where is the scar?
- goobe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes, there is a scar on the US and the UK version of the book; after all, the scar makes Harry Potter.
When I first glanced at the US cover, I thought, b/c of how both Harry's and Voldemort's arms were positioned, that voldemort was controlling harry - but obviously this can't be right. If you look carefully at Harry's face, there is a small (mild) look of triumph. As for the way Harry's arms are positioned, I can only guess that he might be summoning something or catching something that may be falling, or throwing something into the air. Well, I am 95% sure that Harry is wearing the locket showed to us on the adult version of the book. Both Harry and Voldemort are in some kind of a Colosseum - that may explain the curtains. Harry and Voldemort are showed in their final battle - it only makes sense that they have it in a field with onlookers... Overall, the scene looks somewhat ethereal and kind of heavenly - it cannot be more obvious that the end is near.
I really like the UK children's cover. It shows 3 best friends together ending the series - thus leaving a message of love, togetherness and teamwork. I also like the fact that it is so colorful XD Also, the cover gives a sense of adventure: there's gold/treasure, friends, and danger (showed by the cuts on harry's, ron's and hermione's arms. Also, I (think I) see Dobby!!! And what does my eye spy??? It (probably) spies Godric Gryffindor's sword in Dobby's hands! This connects the 7th book to the 2nd one where Harry saves Dobby and fights w/ the sword. There must be other horcruxes in the picture as well.
Slytherin's locket is gorgeous, to say the least for the adult version. And it is eminent that the locket will play a major role in the novel - exactly like the way the picture of the advanced potion book did on the cover of Half Blood Prince.
Can't wait to read Deathly Hallows!!! XD -
