- Jasuus, on 10/12/2008, -39/+259I have conservative cousins who tell me to my face that im going to hell since im a different DENOMINATION of Christianity than them. Unfortunately, this type of behavior is not limited to Islam.

- Persian5Life, on 10/12/2008, -18/+231this is disgusting, Iranians are not like these people. these people are animals.

- Enjoikr3w, on 10/12/2008, -2/+93Iranians hate their government. Another revolution in the next few years wouldn't surprise me. The youth of the country is getting sick and tired of putting up with the *****. I'm Iranian btw.
- tech10171968, on 10/12/2008, -5/+95CanadaKyle, don't blame the Iranian people. The average Iranian is probably no older than 30 (not a joke) and actually *very* pro-West. It's their theocratic government who are the *****. The average Iranian citizen thinks his government is full of crap and, if you were to ever meet one, you'd probably end up liking him.
The people in Iran are nothing like the fools who make up their government. - jsdratm, on 10/12/2008, -3/+84Do the people of Iran even support this regime?
- mrsteveman1, on 10/12/2008, -0/+75That's been the thinking here for a while, the Iranian people are very much a modern and educated people, while the rulers are backward morons.

- mikazir12, on 10/12/2008, -12/+74are they human? they don't respect what others believe in. what if the scenario is reversed and their brothers in Islamic faith are also punished by death in another country?
- jasongbc, on 10/12/2008, -71/+129Religion and stupidity can usually be found in the same places.
- FishThePirate, on 10/12/2008, -4/+55Oh man, women only get life imprisonment, generally they are the ones getting put to death...
...how progressive. - CoreyTamas, on 10/12/2008, -16/+63There's a saying I heard once that I really love: "Young people only learn enough about history to disdain it".
Religion gave us universities. Religion gave us hospitals. Religion has been the foundation of civilization all over the world. It's absolutely true that those who are bent on war will twist religious teaching into an excuse, but does that not apply to any reason for war? Time and time again, when I cite the things done in the name of religion to further humanity, I hear "well, that would have happened anyway", but when someone mentioning a war in the name of religion I never hear the same rationale. - FriedTurkey, on 10/12/2008, -18/+61You don't think the "***** religion" comments are showing the same intolerance the Iranians have for non-Muslims?
- hauntedchippy, on 10/12/2008, -20/+60Islam is very clear on this: Apostasy = death. With that set in stone, Islam can never be moderate or progressive and will always be stuck in barbarism. ***** Islam.
- whatthefu, on 10/12/2008, -17/+55Muslims have never recognized conversion to another religion after accepting Islam.
- hauntedchippy, on 10/12/2008, -6/+43***** your made up divine law. Murdering people because they don't worshipping the non-existent is barbaric.
- bebop717, on 10/12/2008, -57/+93Muslims kill one person…huge headlines.
Christan nation invades another country because it's their gods will and in the process kill thousands…SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! - lordtyros, on 10/12/2008, -8/+42Hey dumbass, last I checked, being majority Christian doesn't make you a "Christian nation"
- oilcan, on 10/12/2008, -0/+33think between the lines dude. it's not an endorsement of the iranian behavior, it's a questioning of the motivations behind our country in deciding which barbaric nations are our allies and which are our enemies.
- inactive, on 10/12/2008, -0/+30give it more time. iranians will rise above the mullahs.
- dartmanx, on 10/12/2008, -8/+37There are some very hot Iranian women.
- rlh1, on 10/12/2008, -3/+32So, You approve of this ?
Divine law? ---- Didn't Mohammad make this all up anyways?
Why shouldn't people be able to leave a religion that they think is rubbish ? - GawtMilk, on 10/12/2008, -3/+31This isn't about religion. This is about stupidity. Notice how this is part of Iran's legislature, not part of the Koran. I have a lot of Muslim friends; some ex-Muslim friends. Islam is meant to be a voluntary way of life, not something that is enforced on people.
I fail to see why there's so much support for Iran these days. Invading them would be stupid, but people act like it's an ultra-civilized bastion of freedom. The life we live as Westerners is so much freer than what people in Iran face. Iran needs humanitarian aid. I wonder what life would be like over there if we removed sanctions.
The point of most religions is "if you don't believe this; we think you're going to hell". That's meant to "separate the wheat from the chaff". The "death penalty" for leaving Islam should be going to jahannam ["Islam Hell"]. Put your money where your mouth is. If someone leaves Islam, the punishment they receive should be in the context of the religion, not in the context of basic human rights. - inactive, on 10/12/2008, -16/+44I've said it before, and I'll say it again. No one's arguing that all the world's problems will magically disappear. But some of the worst ones will be gone without religion. I mean, think about it. Without a promise of 72 virgins in the afterlife, just try getting someone to strap a bomb to his chest and walk into a crowded market. Ain't gonna happen. Religion has the power to remove all fear of death, which can be an incredibly dangerous thing.
- ThsGuyRightHere, on 10/12/2008, -6/+34Any religion that starts with the premise of "this is the right religion, and all others are wrong" is guilty of the same thing. The only difference is the extreme to which its followers are willing to take it.
- TedTschopp, on 10/12/2008, -4/+31As a Christian I say AMEN and Thank you!
- inactive, on 10/12/2008, -3/+29ironically, the same could be said about americans and their own government.
it's always the same old story: the well-connect few lording over the will of the people while claiming to represent them. - flip2trip, on 10/12/2008, -3/+29You ever wonder why it bothers you?

- praisethelard, on 10/12/2008, -1/+24I like how you said the title was misleading, and then went on to prove exactly what it said.
- vtnerd, on 10/12/2008, -61/+84The world would be a much better place if, overnight, religion ceased to exist.
- max1018, on 10/12/2008, -1/+23Didn't Sarah Palin say that the Iraq War was a task from God?
- lazerus9, on 10/12/2008, -18/+40God did not create religion, people did!

- The Civil War
- WWI

All pretty major conflicts that had nothing to do with religion.
Good argument though, I'd never heard that before you said it. -
