- Anrkist, on 10/10/2007, -23/+184So what can we do to make sure there's less? I'm so confused!
- malkir, on 10/10/2007, -14/+136This makes me terribly sad at the state of things in the world. I mean those 10 women could be doing something useful, like making me waffles.
- RadiantBeing, on 10/10/2007, -8/+108Conan O'Brien is the president of Finland. Buried as innaccurate.
- BigManOnCampus, on 10/10/2007, -7/+66It might be more fair to say there are 3 billion men on this planet, and only a few hundred leaders of countries.
- lickmygiggle, on 10/10/2007, -17/+73Hmm. I can be incredibly general too.
Half the world is insanely irrational for five days every month. - CaptMonkey, on 10/10/2007, -4/+45Good thing they used a mosaic of a woman's face to explain this. I might not have understood otherwise...
- UoMDeacon, on 10/10/2007, -8/+47Just because there exists a 50/50 ratio, doesn't mean that all jobs need to have 50/50 representation. While you're at it, why don't you complain about why there isn't a 50/50 ratio with fire-fighters? Heck, I don't see a 50/50 split when I go to Hooters either, we should complain about that as well.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -40/+72Women aren't wired to be leaders.
Men are, and we generally don't feel very comfortable being "led" by a woman. Hell, most women say they don't want women as leaders because they recognize that women make weak leaders.
Here's a little fact of life for you from Uncle Red. Men are weak at the things women are good at and women are weak at the things men are good at. That's why we're meant to pair up. As couples we can cover just about anything.
I hope facts don't hurt your feelings. - creativeamp68, on 10/10/2007, -1/+31It shouldn't matter if the leader is male or female. The question is are these leaders (or any leaders, really) doing a good job for their country?
- Nichevo, on 10/10/2007, -5/+27Women are also underrepresented in area's like ditch digging and other hard labor, they are also draft-immune in most countries of the world as well. Funny we don't see digg articles about that.
You can't have cake and eat it too. - MikeonTV, on 10/10/2007, -14/+36The title should be phrased better. You must be female.
- sbader, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21I want to open a restaurant and call it ccucumbers where all the servers are men and they have to wear tight white t-shirts with green biker shorts, and put it right next to a hooters.
- Gamer2k4, on 10/10/2007, -6/+24You know what? 50% of the VOTERS are women too. That means, no matter what gender they are, people believe that men make better leaders.
- plecostomus, on 10/10/2007, -6/+23Nothing like a little misogyny in the morning.
- ryanwarnersteel, on 10/10/2007, -6/+23Southern republicans have lower IQs than the rest of the country

I hope the facts don't hurt your feelings - thcobbs, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16Yeah.... Because deciding to vote or NOT vote for someone purely based on the orientation of their sexual organs really makes for good policy.
- Jenovaside, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16he cant be female, remember; this is digg.
- Rahodeb, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Women have had the right to vote in the states for a long time, if we still have no woman president, then the questions that really need to be asked are:
1. why doesn't anyone, including other women, trust a woman to run the country?
2. why have there been so few qualified female candidates? - swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -4/+16GOOD and Open?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -10/+22When would women ever have time to be a world leader what with all the fixing of the meals, housekeeping and raising the kids.
Buried as inaccurate. - JanYpe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12A small stinger armed insect of the order Hymenoptera.
Duh. - AXNJAXN, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15Women are no less valuable than men, but there is an inherent difference in the genders, and attempting to guilt people out of it doesn't change the fact that men and women are built differently. It doesn't even mean women can't do the same jobs in leadership, but it does make it less likely, and it doesn't mean there's some sort of underground male conspiracy to keep women in the kitchen.
- nacharya, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13India just voted in a Woman as their President
- mstoneburner, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Women fix meals? Please, tell my wife.
- pickypg, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13Women are 51% of the world's population, not just 50. I would think that a bunch of women trying to outrage people by such a thing would try and go for a valid statistic...
- rlh1, on 10/10/2007, -7/+17So what's the matter with that ? You're not an anti-white bigot are you? I don't think Kennedy was a WASP.
But seriously, the entire populace of the US votes, anyone can run. Nothing is preventing a women from being president. Nothing is preventing a non-white to be president. They just need to get the votes. ( and they need the $$$$ money to do it.) - RansomDenton, on 10/10/2007, -6/+15Article is sad, most of the comments are sad. No we don't NEED 50/50 but that large a gap says much. Wake up!
- thailand1972, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Equal numbers != equality of opportunity. 50% of mechanics don't need to be female to achieve equality for example - but if you're female and a capable mechanic, you should have an equal opportunity to get a job as a mechanic as any capable male mechanic.
I'm not saying equality of opportunity doesn't exist in the world (of course that varies from country to country), but it's just too simple to say exactly 50% of "world leaders" should be women. Affirmative action sucks. - Hetman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8That would probably work. But I imagine you would be getting more Gay guys eating at your resteruant than straight women. But still it seems like it would make a profit.
- wiirdo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10'Innaccurate' is inaccurate.
- Phrag, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8There mere fact that there had to be a nineteenth amendment proves the bias exists.
- thailand1972, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Me thinks he's a pseudo-intellectual ;)
- TimDigg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Dugg for comedic value
- VSLOATHE, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10You mean fewer?
Less refers to quantity, women are numerable, thus "What can we do to make sure there are fewer?" would be more correct. - talkingpidgin, on 10/10/2007, -15/+22Logic that may have applied when putting food on the table required wrestling a wild boar or when taking care of a child required a built in milk bottle only serves to keep women in a place that's convenient for us (men) today. Funny how evolution becomes a redneckerson's friend when it is self serving.
please, I implore you, cite your "women make weak leaders" facts. - sparkooo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7What about Margret Thatcher? Elected 3rd May 1979 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margret_thatcher
- Snuff99, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Totally unnecessary text wall.
- sbader, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9what do you call all the kitchen comments, and the women just aren't made for that, bs? And the how do we make it less comments? maybe it's not hatred but it sure seems like a lot of people here think women are just inferior.
- thcobbs, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I forget who said it... but I think it went something like this: "Anyone with the desire to run for President should be immediately disqualified."
- SkittlesUSA, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8The US secretary of state is a black woman. We have a MINORITY, woman leader in a very big position of power.
- arsheroica, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Don't forget all those sandwiches. Those things aren't just going to make themselves!
- apetrie, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10Blah, blah, blah, *****. None of what you are saying accounts for the radical difference in numbers, even if it were true. Yes men and women are different, yes they are better at different things. Clearly you have not interacted with many women if you actually believe they make weak leaders though. In fact, if you look at who has the true power in any household or organization, it is more often the woman than the man, even in traditional relationships.
I am definitely not a woman who thinks that there should be equal numbers of both sexes in every job, I believe in equal opportunity only. Everyone should do what suits them and fulfills them. However if you really believe that oppression, inequality, and misogyny do not have a hand in these numbers, you need to wake the ***** up. - drmangrum, on 10/10/2007, -5/+11We live in a male dominated society? Damn, wish someone would have told me!
- JanYpe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6If the Qu'ran says so then it must be true!
- fishbert, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Damn you, and your annoying hijacking of my entire screen!
- sra8, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8And after 220 years of democracy, being unable to elect a single woman to lead the country would be because:
1. (your argument) there are no competent women who can direct good policy (unlikely)
2. there is a gender bias amongst our culture (likely) - Paroparo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Nobody really thought she looked like Conan before he made a bit fuss of it on his show. He wasn't *that* popular either, but we Finns tend to go crazy when we get attention abroad like this.
In case anyone is interested, Tarja Halonen is not a member of the church, and was a bit of a communist in her youth. She married her longtime boyfriend/cohabitor/whatever when she became president at the age of 57, and spent some time as the chairperson of Finland's main sexual minority rights organisation in the 80s. So basically her gender is about the smallest difference to the average American president. - EruLabs, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Can I just point out, by way of example, how anything so broad as even race (not to mention gender) is a ridiculous basis for some judgment on an individual. I've met wemon who are more men than some of the men I've met. That goes vis-versa and up-down and flipped on its side.
I'm white. (insert a bunch of stuff white people are) +
I'm male (insert a bunch of stuff males do) +
I'm ____ (insert whatever other moniker you want)
!= Me - okpgreg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5@thcobbs: I believe that was douglas adams.
- talkingpidgin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I think the point of the observation this article is making is that if there were truly nothing preventing women ( and minorities ) from getting elected then one would expect a more even distribution. what are you implying, women just aren't worthy of election, not predisposed to hold public office, just not good with money?
