Digg Townhall Tonight!
Tune into the live Digg townhall tonight at 5:00pm PST/8:00pm EST.
Gorbachev says Saakashvili lied "from beginning to end" watch!
cnn.com — [Larry King]: Mr President, the President of Georgia Georgia told CNN that we've been witnessing [...] the brutal, calculated, cold blooded, premeditated, murder by Russia of a small democracy. How do you respond? [Mr Gorbachev]: Well, this is all lies from beginning to end.

- thruyersternum, on 08/17/2008, -0/+12The bombshell at 5:09: "he [Saakashvili] misled the United States, UNLESS one would think that this is all an American project, and that Saakashvili just implemented it."
Later, "and even now we see that the United States is trying to support and justify Saakashvili"- WishItWerePaul, on 08/17/2008, -0/+6no kiddin'
i think the whole thing is basically a bombshell. a man who helped topple the soviet empire now backs Russia's story. i would have thought all news outlets would be on it.
but of course it is so well buried on cnn's website, the only way to stumble on it is via digg.
so, folks, digg away! - LeeSoong, on 08/18/2008, -0/+7I would think Russia is telling the truth, because if they wanted to they could very well have wiped the capital of Georgia off the map.
With that many tanks, bombers, soldiers, artillery, etc only 25 miles from the Capital city of T'bilisi - Russia could have crushed T'bilisi in the morning, stopped for lunch and drinks, and swept up the dust in the afternoon and be home before dinner.
If Russia really wanted 'regime change' - very little stood in the way of taking the capital city T'bilisi.
It is stupid for Georgians and Russians to fight - many families have relatives on both sides. One woman under attack said it best: brothers shouldn't fight brothers.
Make Peace already, and don't let it happen again!
All that said - It would have been better if Georgia had listened to what the USA told them: Do Not Provoke Russia.- WishItWerePaul, on 08/18/2008, -0/+5dugg your comment for being very sane and balanced.
also quite right about deep ties between russia and georgia. centuries of friendship is nothing to sneeze at.
nobody of sane mind wanted this war in russia. every russian speaking of this war keeps caveating that their anger is at Saakashvili not at all at Georgian people. there's some degree of bitterness heard from Georgians but i'm very sure that'll pass as soon as situation calms down a little and most of all people learn the truth about who started it and who's their real friend.
sane people of the world unite!

- WishItWerePaul, on 08/17/2008, -0/+16btw, Mr Gorbachev wrote an oped for Washington post with somewhat deeper analysis of the situation:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/artic ... - WishItWerePaul, on 08/18/2008, -0/+8speaking of Saakashvili version of "democracy" here's footage of an opposition station being shut down in Tbilisi, watch for yourself:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHxQZmMRysU - Caffeinate, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1The MSM desperately wants another war to cover, apparently. Just sickening, absolutely sickening. As if we don't have enough problems, they still manipulate the American public trying to convince us that the big bad Russians are out to get us (and of course everyone else in the world)
