    • mabhatter, on 01/29/2008, -0/+1surprisingly for such a simple toy, nobody has copied them WELL, even though the "design" patents have fallen off to make bricks that can interconnect. The key I think is that Lego uses harder to work with, and higher quality plastic for the bricks. It's very hard and rigid and holds a sharp surface well. The chinese trying to copy always use cheaper plastic and the blocks don't hold up as well.

      Of course they are probably thinking of liability.. I have 30 year-old blocks that can still draw blood if you step on them wrong!

I have bricks from 30 years ago in my (now) kids collection and you can't tell the difference other than a little color fading. For any product that would be great quality achievement.. for a kids' toy it's freeking awesome. Their attention to detail and longevity is REAL NEWS that belongs here.. and we're geeks anyway.

You can't tell me there isn't ONE story related to lego's 50th anniversary?

        I wouldn't have cared if there was a story on lego's, hell i love legos. What i do think is useless...is what was done here...posting google's logo for the day. Maybe i should've made that clearer in my original post...not like anyone's going to read this anyways.

  • archivist, on 01/29/2008, -0/+2my sister used to give me and my brother legos when i was 10 during birthdays and christmas, she always gave us the small ones because she was a student back then. when we're building them, they always came with a small brochure that showcases those really big legos and we never had it back then. i told my younger brother that i'll buy them when i get bigger.

    now i'm 24, and every time its his or my birthday or when i'm coming back from another country, i would give him really big and expensive legos, the ones we didnt have before. last christmas, my sis was away so i bought my younger bro a really huge lego (mars mission driller) but on the card i wrote there that it was from my sister.

    when i told that to her, she said she almost cried.
