- soogy, on 10/11/2007, -37/+399Are you people ***** retarded? They're Yazidi, not Muslim. If you're going to rag on an entire religion, at least pick the right one.
- chadseld, on 10/11/2007, -35/+211The bible does NOT instruct people to do this. Jesus himself refused to stone the adulteress that was dragged in front of him, saying "He who is without sin, throw the first stone." He diffused a similar situation to the one in this video, telling the woman to go and sin no more.
- Junkyarddawg, on 10/11/2007, -12/+182This has been on Digg three times before: twice as proof of how evil muslims are because the submitter thought yezidis are muslims (even though she was killed for falling in love with a *muslim* boy) and once as proof of how evil muslims are because the boys relatives later exacted revenge for this event and killed a busload of yezidis in retaliation.
The truth is that honor killings (and vendettas) are horrific things, but all the peoples in the region engage in it. It's a tribal, not a muslim, custom. - aliengoods, on 10/11/2007, -41/+205Saw this earlier today on CNN. Those ***** that believe in honor killing are the ones who should be put to death. To brutally murder a 17 year old girl is unforgivable.
And no, this is not like Guantanamo. They flushed pages of a Koran down the toilet. I'd hardly compare that to being stoned to death. And if you see no difference, come over to my house and I'll show you.
@schroeder
It's in Pakistan. Last time I checked, the US invaded Iraq. - driftersgold, on 10/11/2007, -2/+131MY heart breaks for this girl. All she wanted was the most basic of what is human...LOVE... and now she is dead because of it. I am a young man and this brings me to tears.
- Linga, on 10/11/2007, -14/+133http://publiuspundit.com/2007/04/have_you_ever_seen_a_woman_sto.php
Be forewarned, it's an EXTREMELY disturbing video. - Linga, on 10/11/2007, -13/+131A more in depth account of the story and pictures of her stoning can be found here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/femail/article.html?in_article_id=455400&in_page_id=1879
It seems her brothers and uncles may have contributed to the stoning. So much for "honor". - Nimmykins, on 10/11/2007, -2/+117This story horrified me.
People have to know these things happen. - merdiesel, on 10/11/2007, -8/+96"Brutal images captured by onlookers or the barbaric stoning"
How could you just sit and take pictures of something like this and not do something? There's no way I could handle witnessing such a nightmare and not do something in someway to help this girl.
...this world is *****. - fatdog789, on 10/11/2007, -58/+146The problem isn't religion. The problem is extremism, which has no religion. Yes, some crazy ***** crashed a plane into a building. Others perpetuated a war...and you know what? They would have done the same thing even if they weren't Muslim or Christian.
Atheist Nazis killed 6 million people in the name of racial purity. (Hitler renounced his Christianity by the time he initiated the Holocaust, the Nazi party explicitly rejected Christianity.) Secular atheists in Turkey helped perpetuate part of the Armenian genocide (it wasn't just the Ottomans; everybody in the region helped out). It Rwanda, atheists and the religious alike killed people over arbitrary racial differences. Stalin and the atheist Communists of post WWII Russia slaughtered millions of their own countrymen. All in this century.
What do they all have in common? They were perpetuated by atheists. If religion was the problem, this couldn't happen.
Stop blaming religion. It's not the problem. - idonthack, on 10/11/2007, -18/+84@aliengoods
This was in Iraq, not Pakistan.
TFA:
This act of medieval savagery took place last month in a town in northern Iraq, in the fledgling 'democracy' created by Bush and Blair when they invaded the country in 2003 and 'freed' its people. - abid786, on 10/11/2007, -4/+70This happened in Iraq.
- blapierre, on 10/11/2007, -18/+81No rebuttal is needed. Please show us the last time Christians in the US stoned a girl to death in the streets.
- dinostabOMG, on 10/11/2007, -18/+78@bluto & jesusgaytard, & all you other opportunistic hate-mongers:
The article clearly says that the girl (and the lynch mob) was of the Yezidi religion, NOT Muslim. So take your hate elsewhere. - redxii, on 10/11/2007, -8/+67> Under Iranian law, girls older than 9 and boys older than 15 face execution if they commit crimes such as murder and rape.
The rape victim also gets executed. - Sil369, on 10/11/2007, -5/+61Sons of bitches.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -17/+64wow, most depressing digg story ever.....
and the comments are even more depressing: racist, intolerant, and hateful. i guess i shouldn't expect more from most digg users :( - victorc26, on 10/11/2007, -8/+52No, it's a tribal custom in which religion is used as justification.
It's bad, no doubt about it. But to label all Muslims like this isn't accurate. There are Muslims that don't like this, and live in fear under government and tribal institutions. - jerryparid, on 10/11/2007, -8/+50STFU ignorant fools!
Yazidi is NOT Islam; it is the religion of the Kurds, an enemy of the Muslims. In the middle east; honor killing is not uncommon. - drafhk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+40Easy to say. Not to knock you at all, but when there's an angry mob toting rocks, ready to kick your ass if you step in the way, your attitude might change. But it's also for this reason that we have guns.
- fuzzmeister, on 10/11/2007, -8/+48@blapierre
Please name the last time _anyone_ was stoned to death in the streets of the US. As junkyarddawg said above, this is a problem with the region, Islam is just used as a justification. - soogy, on 10/11/2007, -16/+54@electrosoccertu
Yeah, Zoroastrianism, you ignorant *****. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+43@member
This religion predates Islam. From the wikipedia entry on Yazidi. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yazidi
The Yazidi or Yezidi (Kurdish: Êzidîtî or Êzidî) (Arabic,يزيدي or ايزيدي) are adherents of a pre-Islamic Middle Eastern religion with ancient origins. - adrianmonk, on 10/11/2007, -10/+44@fatdog789:
And you can Pol Pot to the list. I was born in 1971, and I can remember when I was a kid, the cheap, run down apartments near our house in Dallas suddenly filled up with Cambodians one year. I had no idea why back then, but it's clear now: Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge were busy killing 1 or 2 million people who they thought wouldn't fit in with their ideal communist paradise. According to Wikipedia, they even had a motto to describe the people who they had selected for destruction: "To keep you is no benefit, to destroy you is no loss." Another thing they did was abolish all religion.
I am not saying that all atheists are evil (I am basically an atheist myself), but the list of genocidal maniacs includes both atheists and religious people. So I have to agree that religion is not the explanation. - sprx, on 10/11/2007, -17/+48@ vicissidude
"Yes, if people read and actually followed what was written in the bible, then Christians would be stoning just as many people as these nuts in Islamic countries."
If people followed the Old Testament, this would be true for the Israelites. However, Jesus Christ changed things.
For a perfectly in-context story, check out John 8:1-11
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?book_id=50&chapter=8&version=31
Forgiveness is now possible, through Jesus Christ.
Yes, you are completely right in that there are people who use religion as am excuse, including Christianity. The Crusades were very wrong, along with "The Lord's Army" somewhere in Africa where there is mindless genocide. But they are directly defying the Bible, and the message of the Cross.
I apologize for the Christians who commit these atrocities. I too have acted in ways that directly disobey Jesus Christ, and I feel disgusted when I do. As such I am just as guilty.
Christians are called to be Righteous, but those who claim to be are lying. We are still living in an imperfect world.... - Vicissidude, on 10/11/2007, -123/+154Yes, if people read and actually followed what was written in the bible, then Christians would be stoning just as many people as these nuts in Islamic countries.
In fact up until very recently, Christians WERE just as bad. Fighting and bombing just recently stopped in Ireland between Catholics and Protestants. But, there's a long history of Christian nuttiness including the Inquisition, witch burnings, the 30 Years War, the Crusades and more.
The problem is not religious extremism and not Islam, but RELIGION in general. When a person can believe nonsense just because someone told them so, whether that someone is a Reverend or an Imam, then you have the perfect scenario for nuttiness like this. - victrola, on 10/11/2007, -21/+51I have no problem with peace-loving Muslims who come to the West to escape this sort of thing. I wish them the best.
I DO have a problem with the terror-loving (yes, I am aware they are the minority) Muslims who want to bring this sort of thing to the west. - ranirastabout, on 10/11/2007, -2/+32The girl was from a Yezidi family. Yezidis are not Muslims: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yazidi
Honour killings also occur in non-Muslim communities: http://www.guardian.co.uk/israel/Story/0,2763,1512394,00.html - sardiax, on 10/11/2007, -3/+33...this world is *****.
Ain't it the truth? - brstilson, on 10/11/2007, -9/+37Key difference: The Crusades and slavery happened in the past, this is happening now.
- Crimsoneer, on 10/11/2007, -5/+33Maybe because you dont want to die...dying never helped anybody. Maybe now the pictures and news are online we can do something.
- DurtyJ, on 10/11/2007, -8/+36I've never been more disgusted in my life. I'm the type of person who's so used to seeing dead bodies of every single type of killing on rotten and ogrish, and the only time I've ever come even close to this disgusted is the woman stepping on the cat, and that doesn't even compare to this. Just ***** horrible.
- wackie, on 10/11/2007, -6/+34This happened while we were there, dumbass!
- Oracle95, on 10/11/2007, -9/+32"How is this any different than two wannabe Christians in Texas dragging a black man to death behind their truck? This happens everyday in every country. Read about what happens in your local prison."
The difference is in an Islamic state, these actions are condoned by the law of the land. In your Texas case, these men were sentenced to death. (And unlike other states, Texas has the balls to get rid of its trash.) - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+26Us being there is stopping these things from happening? Uh, no.
- iRoy, on 10/11/2007, -7/+30@Thewikiman2
Your dad should have pulled out. - accelleron, on 10/11/2007, -2/+21This is ***** sad. Anyone who still has faith in mankind should see this.
As for her killers, I wish I could resurrect the dead, because I would find them, paint a wall with them, then resurrect them to kill them again. People like that do not deserve to live. - DefenceMinister, on 10/11/2007, -3/+20I love it how the herds are already bashing Islam, when this attack was orchestrated by non-Muslims. C'mon, she was stoned to death for falling in love with a Muslim. Gee, I wonder what that means? Hurrrr Hurrrr.
- ciphercast, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17I have seen some horrible things in my life. Events such as 9/11 and VT have phased and numbed us all. But for the first time in a long time I felt deep pain and sadness... This girl was just chasing something that we all seek, love. This is not honour.
- GawtMilk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15Google is a terrible metric on how many honour killings happen.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17Stuff like this makes me ashamed to be alive. I just hate sharing the title "***** Sapien" with ***** who do this kind of thing. I am sickened by this.
- judicar, on 10/11/2007, -7/+21I'm beginning to think that Saddam was too good for these *****.
- Danial, on 10/11/2007, -5/+18This just in: the anti-Muslim crowd lack basic reading comprehension skills.
- qualish, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14Common != right.
- nomojunkscience, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15you mean the happy ending where they kill themselves?
- Tabou, on 10/11/2007, -11/+24@jworr
I beg to differ. Where in the Quran does it say that? Your own made-up version of the Quran doesn't count of course. - AnotherBrian, on 10/11/2007, -5/+17Religion does provide an excuse for behavior like this. Do you think these people would have committed this sick act if they would have had to defend it with logic and reason?
- tmyprod, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15Did you actually read Romeo and Juliet?
- drafhk, on 10/11/2007, -6/+17Wrong. I don't know where the ***** you got that. His sons were some of the worst perpetrators of rape this world has ever seen. Consequences? Nope. None. UNTIL the US got involved and bombed the ***** out of those ***** (rapists). The US occupation in Iraq has a LOT of problems, the extent of which we'll probably never know. Just don't give me this ***** that the US presence in Iraq is causing people to be raped/stoned.
- kodak543, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13This story has nothing to do with Islam. Did you even read the article? Or do you just write anti-Islamic things when you feel like it?
