- HenvY, on 10/11/2007, -11/+292Some ***** locked her in a room for a ***** year, of course she's not ***** OK.
- catalysis, on 10/11/2007, -7/+177It's a good ending because they usually turn up dead or not at all.
- Califax9898, on 10/11/2007, -26/+153
I just hope she is ok. - RexKwando, on 10/11/2007, -14/+134I don't see how this is a "good" ending?! She will be emotionally and probably physically scarred for the remainder of her existence.
- joshua5, on 10/11/2007, -2/+103Clarification: She was missing for a year and found in the lock room. Its not to say she had been in the room for the entire time.
- MeThePeople, on 10/11/2007, -2/+83I dont get how the woman is held on conspiracy to commit those crimes and held for $300,000 in less bail. dont women have equal rights???
- Borfo, on 10/11/2007, -4/+83That's some pretty wild speculation right there...
Both articles say that she had a history of running away from home, and that there was no evidence at all that she was kept in the closet under the stairs... One could infer that maybe she was staying at the house, and was only hidden under the stairs when the cops showed up.
This is creepy one way or another, but you're making some pretty big assumptions.
...either that, or all animal trainers are obsessive, demanding and abusive husbands who mentally control their wives like animals... - rasterbator, on 10/11/2007, -5/+65sick twisted freaks.
- spukeesan, on 10/11/2007, -11/+55@AcePup "She is emotionally scarred for life!"
Well no... she's not. It's bothersome when people infantize those who have gone through traumatic events as if they're perpetually stuck in the moment. Will this likely be looked back upon as a horrific experience? Yes, without a doubt. But owing to the nature of life, she will experience many other defining moments besides. A traumatic event does not necessarily beget psychological detriment, although if victims are constantly treated as weakened individuals the likelihood of a permanent impairment vastly increases. - feinest, on 10/11/2007, -8/+43Harry Potter, ftw.
- bralynn, on 10/11/2007, -7/+41If she would have only put the lotion on the skin.
- dorianh49, on 10/11/2007, -1/+34Here's the story with more information:
http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/06/06/conn.kidnap/index.html - sonaro, on 10/11/2007, -16/+48I can't even imagine what they did to her. I can understand how one person goes crazy and decides to do something on their own, but how do 2 people come to that same conclusion? How do you even begin to talk about possibly keeping someone in a dungeon under your stairs?
The guy was an animal trainer, so it makes sense that he might be an obsessive, demanding and abusive husband who mentally controlled his wife like an animal. No excuse on her part, but...
Found that info and more here:

- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -11/+36God, I wish this happened in Texas, they'd probably spend some quality time with old sparky. But I've heard that there is a special place in jail hell for sick f*cks like this. Inmates are not kind to this type of individual.
- dorianh49, on 10/11/2007, -5/+27FTA: "Authorities said they were not sure the girl -- who they said had a "tough" life involving drug use and had a history of running away from home -- was being held against her will. "
The door was locked and hidden behind a dresser. I'm pretty sure that would constitue being held against her will. Unless it was locked from the inside and they pushed the dresser in front because she wanted to hide. I guess we'll just have to wait for more information... - Iconwolf, on 10/11/2007, -3/+241) According to the longer article, the girl already had a history of drug use and running away. A very strong suggestion that she came from a less than healthy environment to begin with (not a given, though, since I know it's possible to get messed up even in a somewhat healthy home).
2) Gault has had previous involvement with juvenile females, "something very similar to what's going on now with this girl ... inappropriate relationships." (yeah I know the tags don't work but still) - It's not all that much of a stretch for a (savvy?), practiced individual to get an inexperience person (particularly a teen) to willingly participate in all manners of behaviors or activities (especially if the person in question already has a somewhat dysfunctional history or background, as seems to be the case here).
3) I've known quite a few individuals (far too many in my opinion) who've been through some hellacious experience (especially during their childhoods - and honestly some of them would make this case seem a tad tame) and I can assure you that it is entirely possible to live healthy, productive lives. Scarred? Certainly. But it's not like it is a sure thing her life is permanently ruined. - Al3x, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20It sounds like the cops came, they said "quick, hide", she jumped in the closet and they pushed the dresser in front of it.
I'd say she ran away from home, and the guy helped hide her there. Sounds like some love affair between a 40 and 15 yr old. Read the article dorianh49 posted (from CNN w/more info). - vegasmacguy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+21Why is everybody so quick to judge these people as kidnappers? This girl has a history of drug use and running away. The cops alluded to drug paraphernalia in the house. This girl was not living under the stairs but rather hidden there while the cops were searching the house. She wasn't kidnapped, these people were illegally harboring a runaway minor. The closest they have to a kidnapping charge is second degree unlawful restraint which in most states means that you're holding somebody without legal authority.
This article was written to elicit the response people are giving. They worded the headline to make you think this girl was kept in a cage for a year. I'm glad they found the girl, but I really don't think she wanted to be found. - bidness, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13According to cnn
http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/06/06/conn.kidnap/index.html?eref=rss_topstories
the couple lived in the house with "other people"
so there may have been more than two in on it.
Also a 15 year old boy was living there and is the custody of child welfare workers.
I agree this is really screwed up - Suplyndmnd, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14"JESUS forced to livve in a small rooom under the stairs for one year"
Jesus was forced to "livve" in a small "rooom" under the stairs for one year too? Holy crap! I thought hanging on a cross would be bad enough. Were you forced to live in a small room under the stairs too or is the Jell-O seeping out of your ears from something else entirely? - Klinky, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13Yes it's always a good idea to execute someone less than 24 hours after charges have been filed and all the facts aren't out yet. Real smart. Real fair.
- xxenclavexx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Troll = loser
- rick283, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Eh, it says they don't think they actually kept her in that closet all the time...
- Gryffydd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10I'd rather he designed it so you couldn't figure out how to post comments at all.
- swavalier711, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Do we live in a ***** up world, or are these cases the tiny minority?
(wonders) - quomen, on 10/11/2007, -5/+15***** Kill Bill.

"Anti-semetic witch-hunt?"
WTF???????? Where are you getting this? - rick283, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9They don't know that she was actually kidnapped. She has a history of running away. So...if they just didn't turn her in and harbored her without her parent's consent....they get those charges. If she says they threatened her and wouldn't let her leave, then it becomes kidnapping, etc.
The guy is going to be toast the minute she says they've had sex. - LingLing1337, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10I logged in just to dig you down, *****.
- ElectricGrandpa, on 10/11/2007, -4/+12"Photo of her:

Well one thing's for sure, her face has a very wide aspect-ratio. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9''Is it a tragedy? Yes, but the anti-semitic witch-hunt has to stop''
You can tell a lot by the things a person says or does... - gmprunner, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9I agree. And it's not one of those things that you can blame on impulse or something like that (for example, hitting a child without really thinking first). This went on for an entire year, you know they had to have thought long and hard about it as it was happening and yet they still didn't set her free.
It's crazy how sick some people are. - jostheller, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10I agree with borfo... When I read the article on cnn I couldn't help but think that the article was leading the reader to believe something happened when it is completely possible that nothing did happen. There really isn't a whole lot of information on this story. Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to defend these people... I just have not read anything very incriminating about the story.
- Klinky, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Sonaro, I've had to digg down every one of your statements. You're pulling out your "Jump to Conclusions Mat" wayyy too early. You're also going off on some wild tangents. You make it sound like animal trainers are more susceptible to these types of crimes than other people. The vast majority of pedophiles or murders are NOT animal trainers. I don't see how you can link the fact that since he's an animal trainer he had her locked in a dungeon and that she never went outside. Maybe she looked so pale because she is living an unhealthy drug laden lifestyle? I dunno. This is an odd story and not so cut and dry as to say that the guy kidnapped her, kept her as a sex slave and controlled his submissive wife with his dog training techniques.
- xxenclavexx, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8how on earth does somebody do this to another human being?
- Pilot85, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6i noticed no kidnapping charges were filed. They also said they might make more arrests - perhaps they believe someone else did they actual kidnapping. Which just makes this even more ***** up.
- mV0G7, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Man, what would I do without Digg for a whole year?
- billizm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6You know, this girl did have a history of drug problems and even missingchildrenblog.com says she may have voluntarily left the state. It is possible that she was staying at this couple's house willfully and she hid behind the stair case to hide from the cops with the search warrant. This is most likely the case I am sorry to say. Or not sorry, she would be less emotionally scared this way anyway.
- zeroDNT, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6ATTENTION ALL DIGGERS to this story, I live like literally 5 blocks from where this took place. I have seen this man with the girl that he apparently abducted, and they were laughing and he was buying her chocolates as i was standing by! I knew this guy since he lives around my neighborhood. from what i know and my friends is that her parents and the people who abducted her knew each other and apparently, she DID NOT want to be with her parents because so of issues that i dont know about. please dont think this is such a big case because it is not, she was known for running away from home many times before that. SHE DIDNT WANT TO BE HOME SO SHE LEFT. right or wrong, who knows but this man i KNOW is not a bad guy, also this 'room' police found her in was a little room all of us have in our houses and she was hiding from the police, not put there against her will!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Funny, I see no mention of this on the bbc.
- sonaro, on 10/11/2007, -7/+12I'm not saying all animal trainers are obsessive, demanding and abusive husbands who mentally control their wives like animals.
I'm saying that if a man keeps a girl in a dungeon, or for the benefit of the doubt, locked in his home for a whole year, that the chances of him being an obsessive control freak would increase since he also chose a profession which puts him in a dominant position over another living being. Since this may be the case, I could see him mistreating or controlling his wife as well, since he obviously didn't have any concern for a 15 year old girl. The 2 factors compliment each other.
I could understand your argument if I mentioned he was a carpenter or delivery guy, but the guy was an animal trainer. That is role playing on a daily basis and is worth noting.
"Animal training refers to teaching animals to perform specific acts in response to specific conditions or stimuli. Training may be for the purpose of companionship, detection, protection, or entertainment.
An animal trainer may use reinforcement or punishment to condition an animal's responses. Modern animal trainers often have a sophisticated knowledge of the principles of behavior analysis and operant conditioning, but there are many ways to train animals and no legal requirements or certifications required as of yet. "
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_training - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+41year without internet. The parents should be dealt with severely.
- mmazing, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I don't normally do this, but I agree with jostheller, the information presented in this article is inconclusive, and possibly misleading. I could lean either way on the circumstances that led up to this.
- mmazing, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Not that you'll ever read this, or comprehend it if you do, but... Let's take a hypothetical situation.
This does not involve this case whatsoever.
A girl is feeling rejected, and stupidly decides to run away from home, she finds refuge with people that are friends of the family, that understand what she has been going through. They give her a place to stay, and understand that their actions may not be viewed as "right" by people that are not familiar with the situation.
Now, this is a perfectly reasonable situation that fits the knowledge that we have about the topic presented in this digg. So, knowing this, how can you reach such wild conclusions about what this girl has experienced? I won't even get into specifics, because, this is fairly obvious to any intelligent person, that, certain details can be misconstrued. Blah blah blah, i am not defending these people, but things should be looked at objectively, - threemagic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4why digg him down. he's right.. although he didn't read the article, his thought process should have stopped most of you jumping on the "sick *****" bandwagon. they doubt she was being held against her will, if you read the article, and probably just stashed her there when the cops came.
- MicroKusa, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I live in a city near by where this all happened. I'm certainly glad she's ok; I know some people who knew her who are pleased that shes alright.
- gene, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3We don't need the capitalization in the title to show the ***** emphasis, damn it.
- MaskedSlacker, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4You make a valid point.
What amazes me is the number of people too stupid to figure out that your point was not what you literally wrote. Despite your multiple replies explaining this. They do not reflect well on the rest of us. -
