- sny1120, on 03/26/2008, -27/+763[The girl's parents, Dale and Leilani Neumann, attributed the death to "apparently they didn't have enough faith," the police chief said.]
Send them to jail for child neglect and manslaughter. Or throw them in a time machine and send them back to 10,000bc - mbonzo531, on 03/26/2008, -12/+381"The girl has three siblings, ranging in age from 13 to 16, the police chief said.
"They are still in the home," he said. "There is no reason to remove them. There is no abuse or signs of abuse that we can see."
... yes murdering your daughter isn't abuse anymore. - inactive, on 03/26/2008, -12/+335Truly sad.
- urik88, on 03/26/2008, -14/+319Human stupidity. How far can we get?
- stix213, on 03/26/2008, -14/+289The title of the article is wrong, cause the correct title is:
"Moron parents somehow were able to keep a child from dying for 11 years, but their stupidity caught up to them before number 12"
Don't these religious dumbasses know that if there is a God he also allowed modern medicine to be created for us to use? So you MIGHT AS WELL BRING YOUR SICK KID TO THE DOCTOR ANY-*****-WAY!!!! - sny1120, on 03/26/2008, -29/+295He is busy taking medical courses
- sonnybobiche, on 03/26/2008, -18/+274Facepalming himself because these parents thought he would come down and miraculously cure their daughter instead of relying on the miracle of modern medicine.
- omnithought, on 03/26/2008, -22/+244Prayer: how to do nothing and still think you're helping.
- PATSCRU, on 03/26/2008, -50/+262lol religion.
- trogdoor, on 03/26/2008, -10/+216It was flooding in California. As the flood waters were rising, a man was on the stoop of his house and another man in a row boat came by. The man in the row boat told the man on the stoop to get in and he'd save him. The man on the stoop said, no, he had faith in God and would wait for God to save him. The flood waters kept rising and the man had to go to the second floor of his house. A man in a motor boat came by and told the man in the house to get in because he had come to rescue him. The man in the house said no thank you. He had perfect faith in God and would wait for God to save him. The flood waters kept rising. Pretty soon they were up to the man's roof and he got out on the roof. A helicopter then came by, lowered a rope and the pilot shouted down in the man in the house to climb up the rope because the helicopeter had come to rescue him. The man in the house wouldn't get in. He told the pilot that he had faith in God and would wait for God to rescue him. The flood waters kept rising and the man in the house drowned. When he got to heaven, he asked God where he went wrong. He told God that he had perfect faith in God, but God had let him drown.
"What more do you want from me?" asked God. "I sent you two boats and a helicopter." - Jenovaside, on 03/26/2008, -8/+186"Two working hands accomplishes much more than a thousand hands clasped in prayer"
- jmpeagle, on 03/26/2008, -8/+183FTA
"The mother believes the girl could still be resurrected, the police chief said."
pretty ***** stupid - MasterRex, on 03/26/2008, -22/+191 When god gives you lemons, find a new god.
- hauntedchippy, on 03/26/2008, -17/+178The studidity of those parents has cost a human life. How long should the rest of the world just keep quiet and 'respectful' whilst this goes on everyday?
- MaleMaldives, on 03/26/2008, -5/+136You shouldn't just pray to God when their is a CURE. This wasn't a question about their faith, but the parent's being idiots.
- tehpwnerofn00bs, on 03/26/2008, -29/+148To be fair, their god does a great job of keeping their kids healthy...until they get sick.
- doctechnical, on 03/26/2008, -24/+141You can substitute accupucture, chiropracty, homeopathic and all other "alternative medicine" claptrap for God in this story, it's just as tragic and for just the same reason.
- Johnny1337h4x0r, on 03/26/2008, -8/+12410,000bc doesn't exist, dumb ass
/sarcasm - ParaSwarm, on 03/26/2008, -3/+112And some parents don't take their kids to a doctor because they're retarded swine.
- edmondodantes, on 03/26/2008, -10/+112the power of ignorance
- MikeSD34, on 03/26/2008, -2/+101Dying is a a natural part of life, dying because of negligent parents, despicable.
- Spanq, on 03/26/2008, -15/+107I found him. He was behind the couch the whole time.
- haleym, on 03/26/2008, -1/+90Indeed. This infuriated me:
"The girl has three siblings, ranging in age from 13 to 16, the police chief said. 'They are still in the home,' he said. 'There is no reason to remove them. There is no abuse or signs of abuse that we can see.'"
Refusing to get a child medical treatment for a life-threatening illness is abuse, plain and simple. Freedom of religion wouldn't excuse beating a child to death, and shouldn't excuse this, either.
[end rant] - Lavarock, on 03/26/2008, -6/+95"There is no abuse or signs of abuse that we can see."
Other than the DENIAL OF MEDICAL CARE TO A TERMINALLY ILL CHILD I see no signs of abuse. - jehan60188, on 03/26/2008, -3/+91What's really sad is that her siblings are still with the neglectful parents. Sure, there aren't signs of abuse, but what about neglect?
- inactive, on 03/26/2008, -68/+154If you find yourself on top of your roof with rising flood waters & pray for help, jump in the first rescue boat that comes by. God has answered. If you don't you will drown because you've misunderstood faith & HOW God answers. Faith without works is DEAD just like this little girl.
- inactive, on 03/26/2008, -51/+136Campaigning for McCain?
Telling the GOP to hate gays?
Shooting at terrorists in Iraq? - webbsj, on 03/26/2008, -4/+87"The girl's parents, Dale and Leilani Neumann, attributed the death to "apparently they didn't have enough faith," the police chief said."
Sadly, it appears the girl died because they had too much faith. - blindhammer, on 03/26/2008, -12/+92Similar behavior to those that are in cults.
- xpike, on 03/26/2008, -4/+81Even Jesus would've called a doctor...
- Puisapres, on 03/26/2008, -7/+84I find this quote interesting:
The family does not attend an organized church or participate in an organized religion, Vergin said. "They have a little Bible study of a few people."
I wonder if this tragedy would have happened if the family belonged to a congregation - perhaps the minister there or a fellow churchgoer could have helped them. Though I guess it doesn't matter now. Horrible story. - Paradoxymoron, on 03/26/2008, -16/+90Last time I checked "He" is a bunch of ***** that the churches and faiths of the world feed to idiots to keep them donating.
- visionaryIX, on 03/26/2008, -27/+100This has nothing to do with religion, only the stupidity of her parents.
Yet again Digg generalises religious belief entirely. The vast majority of Christian parents would take their child to a doctor. - unicronband, on 03/26/2008, -5/+78If you think:
a. it's ok to ignore your slowly dying child, instead opting to beg some magical sky wizard to make it better
Then you shouldn't be allowed to have children. - RobotCitizen, on 03/26/2008, -9/+79*****. Even If I die and God reveals himself to me plainly and irrefutably, he still has to explain why he is even worthy of being worshiped given the way he behaves.
- zephc, on 03/26/2008, -5/+75Then why bother living at all?
- grungegbunny, on 03/26/2008, -62/+127Religion is poison.
- BakaDrgn, on 03/26/2008, -21/+85My parents would kill me if I told them there is no God (literally) but oh well I don't mind going to church, catholic girls are smoking hot.
- semeticstallion, on 03/26/2008, -6/+66When God gives you AIDS...and God does give you AIDS by the way...Make lemon-AIDS!
- RobotCitizen, on 03/26/2008, -3/+61Which this child will never do now.
- superossum, on 03/26/2008, -8/+66I'm from the area where this happened. I'm terrified that people this twisted live in my neighborhood. What a waste of a life.
Here's the mom's internet testimony of receiving the Lord:
http://www.americaslastdays.com/?page=theyshall-le ... - necroprancer, on 03/26/2008, -6/+63negligent homicide or manslaughter. Parents who do this to their helpless kids deserve some serious time.
- ggnictee, on 03/26/2008, -14/+68These parents are bad parents and probably legally culpable for neglect. But I wish that every time a person is stupid people wouldn't automatically say "ahh the group of people they belong to is clearly all stupid."
Yes there are stupid Christians. And a lot of them. I understand that some believe faith in God to be inherently stupid but saying "I think your faith in God is dumb so you are" isn't really an argument.
Nearly all Christian denominations accept that humans have free choice and this includes, as Terry Pratchett eloquently put, the freedom to die horribly. God didn't kill this little girl: diabetes did. Evolution is as imperfect as we are. If it were anything less we would not be human. We could be perfect, never get sick, never choose to hurt one another: but then we wouldn't be ...us.
It is most likely that a lack of education + ignorance caused the actions of these parents. It is unlikely that God did.
Do you not see the difference? - purag66, on 05/13/2009, -4/+58First of all, nobody believes evolution results in smarter people - evolution has no goal.
Your comment also implies that you should only care about others because of God and the fear that without compassionate people may not achieve salvation? Talk about selfishness. To not believe in God, and still care about others (knowing that there is no reward in the after-life) THAT is true compassion. - sputza, on 03/26/2008, -6/+59And they are more likely to put out.
- eltrev, on 03/26/2008, -1/+53What would Jesus do? (he would have gone to the doctor)
- Ojannen, on 03/26/2008, -5/+51He was in the Conservatory with the Lead Pipe.
- trizzlelv, on 03/26/2008, -14/+60and let me guess, these religious wackos won't see the inside of a court room or jail cell for murdering their child will they?
