- TomsMom, on 10/15/2008, -0/+0If I understand this correctly, the stepmother faces only 4 years of prison time for imprisoning, torturing, and starving another human being nearly to death. Conditions I read about indicate to me, and anyone else with common sense, that this abuse went on for a very long time. That is outrageous. If this woman is capable of this kind of long-term, barbaric cruelty against members of her own family, then she has no conscience or self-control, and is capable of doing absolutely anything to anyone. She is probably a selfish sociopath. She does not belong in society at all. I think that she should have extra charges of ATTEMPTED MURDER and TORTURE added, and that she should be locked up for life without the possibility of parole, at the very least. The father should get felony charges for neglect/abuse and allowing this to happen in his home. He should have a very lengthy sentence as well. Just in the last year, I have heard way too many of these stories about parents starving their children, locking their children away, etc. It's time that we as a society stand up and make examples of these people that we have ZERO TOLERANCE for this kind of evil, and that it will be punished severely. Lock her up for life!!
- citixen, on 10/15/2008, -0/+0I am a spare the rod spoil the child kinda guy, so don't confuse my outrage with some kind of ALL children are victims ideology. I believe a parent is and should be completely responsible for their children, no matter the circumstance.
HOWEVER, this is one the most despicable and twisted abuse of parental obligations I have ever heard about, in this country. 4 years of prison? That is the max? They have already released them on personal recognizance? This is not any kind of justice or protection of our community which are the two main reasons we even bother with 'laws'. They better come up with some other charges, kidnapping comes to mind, attempted murder, torture. Come on, what kind of prosecutors and judges does this town have?
