A lot of rain and a ruined sewer created catastrophe in Guatemala City today. Friday morning local time the ground fell down and a gigantic hole appeared, that drew down several houses and one truck. Three persons is so far missing.
The one hundred meeters deep hole opened in one one of the city's poorest and most overpopulated parts. The three who is missing is a 53 year old man, and two teenagers, one boy and a girl.
There was found a dead body down in the ... that surrounded the hole, but it is unclear if it's a victim after the accident.

A spokesman for the local waterworks told that the sewer cable collapsed after being filled and that the town was aware of the problem. The military thinks that a controlled explosion will clean up the sewers, but they didn't manage to fix the problem before the whole thing collapsed. - Junkyarddawg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+58The article claims that this was caused by "rain and a broken sewer system". I strongly doubt that will give you a 100 meter deep hole. I'd say that's a real sinkhole, e.g. a natural, probably very old, cave where the roof has caved in.
