- jstohler, on 05/20/2008, -11/+88Time for Bush to invade Mexico.
- Sogui, on 05/20/2008, -4/+45You could just call it an explosion, I think "giant" just makes this story sensationalist.
- zyl0x, on 05/20/2008, -3/+34It's funny how the viewer submitted photos are of higher quality than the ones provided by NBC.
- inactive, on 05/20/2008, -3/+32NYC Steam: City's responsiblity, pipes were over 80 years old.
Bridge Collapse: it was in the process of being refurbished and collapsed.
Gas Explosion: at a building in the process of being reconstructed.
How are these things the Federal Goverment's fault? Do you blame the Feds if your toilet backs up, or your car breaks down? - DeviantDragon, on 05/20/2008, -1/+30Because people don't usually get a chance to plan ahead for unknown gas leakage and unpredicted and unknown ignition of said gas buildup. RTFA, it's not as if it was a controlled demolition.
- MaxMWood, on 05/20/2008, -3/+28Giant lego ball spotted at the scene of the disaster.
- audioscience, on 05/20/2008, -5/+20BREAKING NEWS! Yesterday...
- chanop, on 05/20/2008, -0/+14Natural gas? pssshhhh. George Bush personally put c4 on the side of the building, then sent a small missle into the side of the building. Don't you see how the metal is fragmented? That doesn't happen from natural gas.
- fr0ng, on 05/20/2008, -14/+28Oh noes, terror alert orange!
- BridgeBurner, on 05/20/2008, -2/+11Welcome to yesterday...
- trollick, on 05/20/2008, -2/+11If it happened in Myanmar it would kill at least 50,000 people.
- chanop, on 05/20/2008, -0/+9Also, if you fold a $20 a certain way you can see a construction worker with a burn on his arm.....if that isn't proof, I don't know what is
- LordMonboddo, on 05/20/2008, -0/+6Yeah! Let's defend NBC camera-people! Thumbs up!!
- jhirsch4, on 05/20/2008, -9/+15at least the building didnt collapse
- Dumbledorito, on 05/20/2008, -9/+15Noooo! Not the ComiCon!!!!
- tnoy, on 05/20/2008, -16/+22Fox News headline with "terrorist" in it, in 3.. 2.. 1..
- Matteos, on 05/20/2008, -1/+7Let's bomb Alaska.
- inactive, on 05/20/2008, -4/+9Give it a ***** rest would ya...
- inactive, on 05/20/2008, -1/+6Plus, as Bush would say, "tacos rule!".
- VinceNoir, on 05/20/2008, -0/+5Yes... some people actually do. It's this irrational hatred of large organizations that have a lot of power. I think it's a mental disease called libertarianism.
- subliminalurge, on 05/20/2008, -1/+5No, definitely Mexico. The beach property is much more appealing.
- pcrow, on 05/20/2008, -1/+5The viewer-submitted photos are from multi-megapixel digital cameras. The NBC "photos" are stills from TV cameras, and probably not even HDTV cameras.
- mindvise, on 05/20/2008, -3/+7"The arsonist had oddly shaped feet." R. Burgundy
- petebert, on 05/20/2008, -0/+4actual news on digg?, wierd..
- shirtninjay, on 05/20/2008, -0/+3But then it might have not reached front page without "giant" in the title.
Diggers will do anything to get their submission popular.
For example, [Pic], (Video), BREAKING:, iPhone, Stephen Colbert, Obama, Clinton, Top X lists and so on... - ahalbert, on 05/20/2008, -1/+4looks like the surrounding buildings of Petco Park have more excitement then those last place Padres
- WilliamDecker, on 05/20/2008, -1/+4I don't want to sound like a dick, but 14 people? Why can't we cover something that isn't American about people getting killed/injured? Something that will actually bring some focus on world issues?
I feel bad for anyone involved that was injured/killed, but honestly fair and balanced I think is the word. News happens in more then just the United States... - inactive, on 05/20/2008, -1/+4Bridge collapse wasn't due to poor maintenance. It was due to poor design.
Our wonderful Civil Engineers decided to use plates that were too thin and to ignore the fact that they were laying the foundation 120' too shallow in limestone rather than to the granite/basalt below the limestone.
This was a design that was done back in the 60s/70s. - mixxo, on 05/20/2008, -0/+3Why didn't you plan ahead & actually think about what you were typing in that little yellow comment box.......
- shaba1, on 05/20/2008, -1/+3It was submitted almost 20 hrs ago (making it yesterday), but made popular 3 hrs ago
- anti_hax0r, on 05/20/2008, -1/+3I think that is near the Gaslamp district - you were unintentionally correct.
- VinceNoir, on 05/20/2008, -0/+2Yeah... and I can see the pixels so I know it's a Photoshop.
- hammerpants, on 05/20/2008, -0/+2I should not be laughing at this. Save me a seat in hell, k?
- PseudoThink, on 05/20/2008, -3/+5I live a few blocks from the new Hilton Hotel and jog by that area on a regular basis. The building is rather isolated from downtown, being on the opposite side of Harbor Drive and on the SE side of the convention center. It is far enough from Harbor Drive, the convention center, and the trolley/train tracks that I doubt this would have injured anyone, if construction workers hadn't been on the site working. Painfully obvious it doesn't have anything to do with terrorism.
- Modulo, on 05/21/2008, -0/+2Valejo, after a quick browse through some of your other comments, I have a nice red rubber ball for you to play with instead of spending all this time apparently being confused by the complicated things happening in the world. We will all be better off, and hey! red rubber ball!
- rspeed, on 05/20/2008, -0/+2Huh? I assume you're referring to 5 World Trade Center, which was partially destroyed when 1 and 2 WTC collapsed on top of it. It didn't collapse, it was demolished by wrecking crews a few months later. What explanation is needed?
- apersaud, on 05/20/2008, -0/+2I'm from SD. The latest news is that just that amount of damage to the building will cost them over $5 million to repair. I went and looked at the damage and you have to give props to the engineers because even with that big hole on the side, the building is still standing strong.
- DanBoodro, on 05/20/2008, -0/+2From the look of those photos, I'm surprised it wasn't a lot worse.
- etsboy1, on 05/20/2008, -0/+2i have no idea what the is going on or has NBC just decided to tell people of the explosion and let them think it up themselves?
- freezerburn666, on 05/20/2008, -0/+2damn nature, you gassy!
- fuzzybeard, on 05/20/2008, -0/+2Any time you're burned bad enough that it's measured in percentages is bad news in my book.
/burn debridement's a bitch - missmorgie, on 05/20/2008, -0/+2Peter Pettigrew is at it again!
- loneBoat, on 05/20/2008, -0/+2I often wonder when I see reports of numbers of people injured in an incident how picky they are when correlating injuries to the incident. I mean, if I get a papercut because the sound of the explosion across town startled me, do I get to be counted as one of the injured? Or if I get a repetitive strain injury from commenting on Digg about it, can I be counted? Just wondering.
- TremorX, on 05/20/2008, -1/+3We are now at Elevated Terror Alert Level Pantone Orange 021C
- Bodhinature, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1Wow. I hope you don't vote.
- DaHuuuuuudge, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1Just. Chill.
- Bodhinature, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1Is it just me or were the user submitted photos better than the professional media photos?
